When you watch someone like Graham Arnold, a guy who's coached at this level for over 25 years, being questioned about his teams continual poor performance I see some concern in both his answers & his body language.

GA knows his current job may be on the line and talks and acts accordingly.

TW on the otherhand is all jovial and looking for the silver lining, mostly due to as Wombat points out 'his job isn't on the line'.

Maybe it is & he just doesnt know it.

I would suggest that TW should be a little more concerned that these poor performances, despite being OK with Charlseworth on face value, are perhaps placing some doubts in Mike's mind on Walmsley’s Technical Director role moving forward when we have a new Head Coach take over the position.

It would be just as easy for Peter Storrie (who I'm sure Charlesworth will be tasking the job to - with all of his contacts) to find us a new Manager for CCM .....

................. as well as a new TD that will complement the Manager. ;)

Kinda like the way Adelaide did it with Josep Gombau & Guillermo Amor as TD

I wouldn't mind having Arnie back.

While I love seeing his miserable face on TV when Sydney are losing I reckon he could do a job for.
I don't see he burnt any bridges. That's just his character. Whinging and carrying on about everything.
Let's face it, he left us to take up a better job. It didn't work out. He had to get another job and it happened
to be Sydney. I'm pretty sure on the pitch before he left he did say he would be back.
And just think if he came back next season the first two signings would be Simon and Anderson.
What more could you ask for?

I'd prefer #WalmsleyUp than #WalmsleyOut

I'm not going to blame him for being unable to find a coach willing to take on a job at a club in relative turmoil, unwilling to spend even the salary cap and with a squad that resembled something that would come from 10 minutes with a blindfold, darts and a spinning wheel.

The players he's brought through look like they've got potential - most of us here would be in agreement with that. Between this and his previous tenure, he's got runs on the board as a TD.

The time he was not here was the time we made most of our recruitment f**kups.

Let's let him do the job he was initially hired to do - keep the conveyor belt going.

But the first team needs a leader and a tactician, and they need a spine.

They need an experienced manager (this includes people who've been good assistants - Tony hadn't even been first team assistant before this) and some experienced players.

I *don't* want Mulvey - there are too many tales of him being an appalling man-manager to think that that's a good idea.

We ought to look to the national teams setup. People like Ante Millicic or even Paul Okon could be worth a go.

Millicic could be excellent though - assistant experience with Heart and Wanderers plus great national teams exposure. It might be the time to try to pull someone like that in.

A huge hole in our squad was loosing Ibini. We suffered greatly and getting Fab has helped and now Austin.

Arnie going through similar issue. Lost Ibini who was great for them, replaced him with Holosko who has been average. Also gave up on Janko who was expensive but productive. Won't have that issue if came back. Arnie's problem is his squad is looking old and slow. They were pretty good to watch last year and his reign here was good.

How about going for marquee coach that players will play cheap to play under.

I know I'm dreaming here but Guus is so called retiring, come have a cushy job in the sun take as many walks on the beach as you want and teach our youth a lot. Has some feeling for the country.

Another Gombau would be worth a look. Luis must have some people we don't know about or contacts to find someone. Cash in on Spain while there economy is bad.

I remember at one of the fans nights. The one at Ettalong actually. Arnie gave a little talk and he said signing players for the Mariners was easy.
Everyone wanted to play for us. Agents would be phoning all the time.
How times have changed.

Fun debate but we all know the plan like it or not.

How long till Hutch gets his licence and takes over and TW goes back up stairs.

I believe he is just caretaker to get Hutch his licence. That's why we saving money getting rid of anti Hutch players etc.

Two weeks ago during the fox coverage (City i think) at half time they crossed the camera to our rooms and Hutch was using the white board and giving the directions with players in the semicircle watching, while TW was walking hand in pockets looking at the floor behind them maybe listening but not looking. It was like a 5 second grab but a very interesting one.

Would like to see Hutch do an apprenticeship under someone stronger first.

Then club legends coaching their teams don't work to often.

I don't really like it but I reckon it's a sure bet.

Thankfully it's only a rumour. If there's any truth to it, people have rocks in their heads.

It may be that Hutch will one day be a legendary coach to go with being a legendary captain, but to put him in the role too early is to shatter any chance that he'll get there.

Was told by 2nd hand from a former player that the minute Hutch pulled of his boots and put the whistle around his neck his whole attitude changed and he lost the respect from those he used to play alongside with just the season before

I'd say this subsequently spread virally to the newer players that then signed on.

Possibly necessary though to be a coach.

Breaking away is probably the hardest part of going straight into the coaching side of things.

Without your players respect, you may have 16 names on a sheet - BUT you'll NEVER HAVE A TEAM.

The problem with promoting internally is you just get more of the same in terms of tactics etx.
The club needs to look outside and bring in an experienced Manager.

Meh to Arnie returning. Half of his success was because he had us. He moved on to a far bigger budget and should have been able to do better, or at least as well. So far he has achieved less.

Going back to Arnie...let's not look backwards. Are we sharks or sheep? Sharks don't look back because sharks don't have necks. Necks are for sheep.

I'm not in the TW out camp yet. I honestly don't have the evidence to make a clear enough judgment. We lost several games which knocked our form early in the season due to terrible, incorrect refereeing and/or just awful luck; we have an extremely thin, inexperienced squad and needed to cull some significant experience, and then have missed key players repeatedly to injury or suspension which is a big problem with no depth to back them up. Results in these circumstances are predictable. Could we find a better, more experienced coach? I'm sure we could. Could we find one willing to take on this team during these 'club ensuring it's financial survival years', and for the right price? I'm sure we couldn't.

Let's recruit an experienced spine in the off season as TW has said is the priority, see the product of the great youth we have starting a new season with their hard earned experience and if it's still flapping after 5-6 games talk about a change.

Exactly this. He may be gash, but because I really like him, I want to be sure. And I'm not. Far too many variables and obstacles to be clear on it.

Can't fault anyone for thinking otherwise though.
