ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Walmsley back at Mariners

I'd like to see him do the full season if going to happen. Take a few weeks to find the replacement. Don't rush it. Don't waste the last couple of weeks with a coach who won't be getting the job. Could say same I suppose about keeping a coach who is going.

Would be quieter media wise if cut in the offseason.

My gut feeling is that Tony Walmsley will be our Football Manager for the 2015/2016 season. Anyone else have this feeling?

If that's the case, I think we still need a TD.

I'd like to see us move away from the idea that a coach is meant to be some omniscient, omnipotent force upon whom we can all hang shit if the team is playing poorly.

I'd like to see us have a football department that has a long range plan for recruitment, retention and development. It should link the SAP, NPL, NYL and A-League (and W-League) parts of a big football operation. It should include a focus on recruitment, retention and development of coaches.

When a player retires and wants to get into coaching, if they're good enough they should have the opportunity to become one of the cogs in the development machine. Just as we generate players through the system, so we should be generating coaches.

The TD is the boss of this structure. The manager of the first team is a (big) cog within the structure. There will be a management team that works together to plan, deliver and assess our programs over time to ensure we're making progress and delivering what we want at all levels.

It should take pressure off the manager of the first team because it doesn't all rest on that one person.

So if Walmsley is the manager next year, we need a TD.

No, not a chance. Storie categorically stated he will hosting interviews when he gets back to England and that Walmsley will not be in contention. He said Walsmley wants to be TD not coach.

That sort of fits with what Walmsley said when he returned from the UK I think. From memory, he said he loved football etc, but he'd gotten badly burnt and was actually looking at doing something else, in a more corporate sense. TD seems like it could turn out a good fit for him, I think. Doesn't have to listen to the fans abuse him whenever he doesn't perform, doesn't have to build up a sweat at work, if he's not interested, but still gets to deal with the heart of football.

Tony Walmsley is a journeyman and a typical average english coach. If he was any good he would be permanently employed in England. And I have known him for over 10 years with his involvement in private academies, etc. Look at how long he spends in any one job and you will see a pattern of either moving on or being moved on ....

McCabe? Is that you?

I have to say though, for someone being defined as a journeyman, he's been spending an inordinate amount of time with a single club, over the last half-a-decade-or so ;)

Maybe McCabe is pulling the strings now, he's still I think a Director of the club, you have to wonder why if he's not active behind the scenes. As for Walmsley he's not a coach and I don't think he wants to be, the key is whoever he (or McCabe) brings in and how he transforms our average squad. Interesting months ahead I feel.

Wasn't meant as a dig at anyone! This is the first time I've seen McCabe brought up as a puppet master.
I'd guess that he has zero idea of the day to day running of the club, and all the recent changes are coming from Storrie, but maybe that's looking at it too simply?

No no. I wasn't suggesting you were having a crack. There was another post by you in another thread together with this one which made me think that you were perhaps (ahem) a little soured this morning, so please don't take it as criticism. :)
