Victory vs Mariners

Am I the only one that thinks Hutch had an absolute blinder? Thats probably the best game I've seen him play in a Mariners shirt.

Even though we've been beaten the last two weeks I still think we have just shaded the opposition. It feels a lot different than the post Jedi slump anyway so hopefully we will return to winning ways next weekend.

Whoops hit the button too early....

^This is spot on. We were all over them apart from their two shots on goal. They took their chances & we didn't (again).

We'll bounce back fine, and we'll have Sainsbury back next week - terrible decision.

Also only an extra 30sec on the four minutes added on? Do ref's occupy Tardises or something?

Am I alone in thinking this was a wonderful game of football? Perhaps one the the season's best so far - just wish we didn't lose or draw (13/03/2011) great matches. Quality stuff aplenty, movement, action, great goals.

I thought overall we played well, the result didn't make me feel our grip (if you really have one with 8 to play) on the plate is slipping. MV played far better than they have been. I think both them and Roar have lifted big-time to play us.

Terrible red (can anybody pull up a still-shot of Trent Sainsbury's eyes when he saw the card?). Otherwise Green was infinitely better that Kris Griffith-Jones last week. Conspiracy, pfft.

Should be a great game next week. My only concern is RB: ? Pedj injured + Sainsbury suspended = Porter. Hope he can prove me wrong.

Agree that both of our games against Victory this year have been classics.

End-to-end quality and some super goals. And Matty Simon's farewell fairytale as well.

Credit to both teams. A real pleasure to watch (despite losing last night).

Winning and losing can be infectious - just ask Roar. Hoping that our two straight losses to incompetent referees is just a blip.

Hoping that Sutton lives up to his star billing and we can rip the sheep-shaggers next weekend. Another tricky one though, as they are a pretty tidy unit themselves at the moment.

Missed the game as I was at a work function, but I've read elsewhere that the mindless oxygen thieves in the south end were singing "who's the faggot in the pink".

MARINERS WERE RIPPED OFF BY THE BLOODY REF!! As simple as that.He should have at least shown yellow to victory's defender for a nasty tackle from behind in the first half and then for a foul where our defender doesn't even make contact with the opposition he decides to controversially send Sainsbury off. This clown ruined any chances that the mariners had of equalising or even winning the game. The mariners would have won the game if it wasn't for the ref.Even with 10 men the mariners were superior to Victory.

Managed to find the game a day later on Justin tv. Football wise one of our best performances - no coincidence that AAMI park is one of the best playing surfaces. Thought the way we played in the first half was quite outstanding, real quality. Sutton must be looking forward to getting on the end of some of that approach play.
Pasfield - much better; some really good saves and more confidence all round.
Sainsbury - can never be a dynamic as bojic and i think his more conservative play may have affected McGlinchey but he looks very assured in everything he does. Red card was a travesty esp after the last remaining thug at Victory hacked down Kwasnik (there used to be three thugs - Muscat, Vargas and Leijer)
Wilko - normal calm play although appeared to becarrying a knock; hope he is fit enough for next week
Zwaanswijk - again looked assured and strong
Rose - much better going forward, got to the by line on several occasions
Griffiths - played intelligently and strongly throughout but his sliding defence wasn't there to block Hernandez
McGlinchey - as most people said, not really at the races tod
Hutchinson - Boazanic is going to regret being away with the failed Olyroos. This was a big-time gane from Hutch
Rogic - Spectacular insight into the future; great technique, great attitude, great vision
McBreen - usually full on shift but felt we needed more end product from him
Kwasnik - much better; a real handful for Victory
Ibini - looked class when he came on, real quality in his touch.
Gallagher - makes his debut at last!

thought Hernandez was magical and what a class player Harry Kewell is - although not a class orator - he was pleased how Victory dug in for their win - against ten men FFS!

The FFA do not have to explain anything. The red was issued on the park, the referee made a decision after consultation with his AR.Upon review the decision was clearly harsh, the officials have no such luxury. Conspiracy theories are absurd.

really ? what cost do you think the FFA would put on melbourne missing the finals?
if you believe there is no pressure on referee's to give the "right discissions" in these circumstanes
than your a trusting soul . as for me i've been watching football to long and consider this type of thing common place

The red card was poor, yellow at best (because you just can't slide in recklessly), BUT the incident was magnified a thousand-fold because of the Leijer tackle in the first half where not only was there intent, but he actually cleaned Kwas up and could have broken his leg. And Leijer got nothing, not even a measly yellow. This is why the ref should be hung up by his balls.

just got back from melbourne wow what a great game of football. OK we all have seen the red card nothing else said. To most of the Mariners fans down there well done but we also have bogans the dickheads down the front in black were a disgrace they were there to cause trouble and to get into a fight they cheered the mariners for about 5 min. When the mariners scored they through beer in the air all over a woman and her kids in front of me. Then for the bogan at the back of the away bay that every second word was f##k , c##t and so on you are a tool a disgrace to the mariners. If we want more people to sit in bay 16 we have to get rid of these idiots. The rest of the people in the away bay was great and i had a fantastic time down there but i wished we had of won.

I was there too & while the swearing wasn't great it was mostly harmless stuff all around I thought.
Security were sensible and calm and the Victory fans were gracious and friendly. Great trip apart from the red & loss.
