Victory vs Mariners

Where the HELL was Weemac that game? Really? It was like he touched the ball 5 times, and in comparison to his recent form??
Strangest performance possible.

Kwaz, sigh, pulls off the incredible, misses the ones he should score. He should have been subbed on 60.

Sutton can't start soon enough I'm afraid.

Would have been nice to see Gallagher and Duke with at least 10 to go.

Positives.

Rogic was terrific

Pasfield did well overall.

Rosey was great

Rostyn was back to form (thought he was awful last week)

Yeh...you just sensed we would of gotten another one, particularly when using our subs WITH 11 men..

Still, first goal was comical midfielding by Hutch, why the hell was he sprinting over to second man Rose on Rojas, leaving Hernandez with years of time and space.....

Second goal Rojic should of gone down more from the header, im sure the MV player fouled him in the back to get that header to Kewell for the volley....my first thought anyway!

The comment I made about that f**king cancelled Gold Coast Game spurring a slump is coming true....f**k this

DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE RED CARD, SAINSBURY'S EYES SAID IT ALL...

Leijer's challenge = not even a yellow

Sainsbury = red

???

please explain FFA

(I doubt there was even contact between Sainsbury and Fabio ... ... ...

Fabio suspended for 2 weeks for simulation)

Ah we all know that wont happen ;)

Fabio was fine, he simply avoided contact succesfully, the ref is the one who made a meal of it, have no doubt that will be overturned

Am I the only one that thinks Hutch had an absolute blinder? Thats probably the best game I've seen him play in a Mariners shirt.

Even though we've been beaten the last two weeks I still think we have just shaded the opposition. It feels a lot different than the post Jedi slump anyway so hopefully we will return to winning ways next weekend.

Agree with all that. Thought Hutch had a blinder too.

Ibini looked dangerous as usual.

Victory look so much better under the new coach its not funny. Having said that we would still have beaten them with our top starting 11.
The Red card was possibly the worse decision ive seen in the last 30 + years. Pathetic and embarrassing.

Pasfield. 6.5 Probably could have saved Harrys goal but made 3 decent saves. Good reserve but no where near Ryans level atm.
Rose 6.5 Mixed bag. Some great attacking mixed with some sub-standard defending.
Dutchy 6.5 Culpable on the first goal as he should have closed Fat boy down.
Wilko 6.5 Ok
Sainsbury 6. Didnt look out of place at all but first touch needs fine tuning. So unlucky with retarded send off.
Hutcho 7. Possibly my MOM. Looked quite classy tonight.
Rogic 7. Great goal and looks great in cameos but workrate is not high enough. Will be great in the future.
Griffo 6. Good defensively at times but still well shy of his best form.
WeeMac 6. Average tonight.
Kwas 6. Typical higns and lows from Kwas. Should have equalised for us.
McBreen 7. Good again.

MOM Hutcho 3pts
2pts McBreen
1 pt Rogic

A side with .... Mark Milligan, Archie Thompson, Carlos Hernandez, Ante Covic, Harry Kewell,.... we had if you count John Sutton six first teams players out [I include Bernie in the six] plus our first drop sub... had a player sent off ...

We had out .. . Mathew RYAN (Qantas Australian Under 23 duty), Pedj BOJIC (knee – indefinite), Oliver BOZANIC (Qantas Australian Under 23 duty), Troy HEARFIELD (hamstring – 1 – 2 weeks), Mustafa AMINI (Qantas Australian Under 23 duty), plus John Sutton plus Bernie was injured and rested for most of the game...

We lost 2-1 .... playing away to a team that this was a must win game or their season is almost over....and as I said look at the strength of that squad...

We have lost every single game Musty has not played in this season...

With Olly, Musty, Matty, Pedj, add Sutton and a fully fit Bernie and we are a different side...

Add the ref ...

To our players tonight ... no one played to their best ... weeMac was no were to be seen... I don't think anyone played badly neither ... Hutch got sucked in for that second goal left his man unmarked...

On balance arguably the weakest side we have put out in a long time against a squad paid well heaps more than ours and with some big name players...

Incredibly bad decision - and I reckon the Ref realised it - he didn't even give McBreen a yellow when he raised his foot so high that he actually made contact with the Victory F/B's face. TBH McBreen should have gone - it wasn't spiteful, but it was absolutely reckless.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that the Red for Sainsbury was a shocker. It reminded me of Porter receiving a Red in somewhat similar circumstances at BT in one of the early seasons.

Good post Midfielder.

Agree on everyone with Hutch. I don't think he's put a foot wrong for us all season pretty much. If he can bang in a couple and we win the plate. Will be his best in yellow for sure.

Also meant to give a nod to Bernie, in the few minutes he had, his work rate was positively Matty Simon esque, dam well suited him. This is how late subs should always behave... yet often for some weird reason don't.

Really I think we just need Matty Ryan back and Sutton to be the goods, and we will hard to beat.

Add Olly, Amini, Hearfield, Duke, Musialik, Pellegrino, Gallagher, McDonald. We have serious depth and I'm really hoping we can make something of the ACL this time round. On Sainsbury, honestly. teh send off was ridiculous, but I'm not at all convinced by him yet to be honest. Makes the exact same silly late slide tackle every game and gets booked. This time the ref was just a goose.

I remember that red - happened right in front of us. Porter had just broken into the side and was getting regular football, that card just killed his season dead and he struggled to get back in after that.

Stupid red cards can do more than f**k up a football match, they can really f**k someones career.

there is no excuse for the red card. the game has no context other than that decision .
it's scandalous. it's requires an explanation from the FFA .otherwise it must be assumed "Melbourne’s
finals position must be assisted at all costs "

The FFA do not have to explain anything. The red was issued on the park, the referee made a decision after consultation with his AR.Upon review the decision was clearly harsh, the officials have no such luxury. Conspiracy theories are absurd.

Ibini should not play first team,he loses the ball tooooo often and can cost the game.Kwas missed a definately should have been goal.
