ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Turbulence (then calm sailing, then turbulence) thread.

For those not aware most clubs swing around between 13 and 14 home games per season and when you have a 14 home game season you need to play one game away from your home ground to promote Football... The Mariners have played in Canberra a number of times...

Normally you loose money as the away crowd is low...

MV have proposed and interesting idea ... play your round 14 game against us in Geelong .... you will get the home gate which should exceed 20K ... Football will be promoted and it will broaden MV's reach in the state ..

This has some merit and we should consider ...

It all depends what we value more, the $$$'s or the three points. I know what I value more and I suspect it's different to MC.

We should go halves with ffa jets.
Play a double header.
CCM vs nix
Jets vs MV

We get paid, don't loose MV game and don't waste time and money on a regional game.

Seriously? It might have been worth considering any other season (although I don't see it) but after the last two seasons!?
Not to mention the precedent it'd set, for letting the richer clubs, buy their way out of away games....

Apart from all of that, aren't they looking for one of the actual home games to be relocated?... Even if they're not, you'd assume that some work has already gone into placing the regional game somewhere, so we do this, we'd effectively be hurting the spread of football that the regional game is supposed to support... Yes, we'd be playing Victory's game in Geelong, but whoever is supposed to have our regional game, would be missing out, because Victory could keep their s*** sorted but don't want to let down 'their' regional fans.

You'd want more than just the gate takings, they're ours by it being 'our' Home Game.
MV get many more positives worth dollars.
  • marketing to new prospective members
  • merchandise sales leading up to the game at open training session's
  • merchandise sales at the actual game
  • Dont have to repay any monies to VIC Gov. For the 3 year deal they agreed to and got paid for.
  • Would we let Geelong Football clubs/ Association. reap the $$$ food & beverage sales produce?
If we were to take the game closer to our local fanbase, they'd more likely:
- Buy our merch.
- Buy 3/6 game memberships.
- Support our club from afar/Foxtel-Free2Air?
- Plus the kudos of food/bev sales to an Association closer to home.
More benefits to be had by keeping our own longterm interests in mind than the short-term cash grab.

Note: M.Charlesworth seems to not like to spend the cash, so $20-30k extra in the kitty might have some appeal. ;)

442 is indicating we are going to accept the offer to play our regional game [we must play away from the CC] in Geelong...

No, somebody on the 442 forums is saying "It seems that the Mariners .. ", and before actually deciding whether or not I support the concept I'd like to see some *official* press releases etc. from the clubs concerned either confirming or denying the *rumour*.

Middy, son, as NY correctly says, that's not within coo-ee of 442 saying it.

That's like me commenting on a SMH article saying that Tony Abbott is going to be fed to wild dogs and you then saying 'the SMH is reporting that Tony Abbott is going to be fed to wild dogs'...
