How about the Chinese.

  • Billion-dollar Chinese investment boom on Central Coast
  • Golf resort, $500m theme park, high rise development on horizon
  • Discussions continue into Chinese university campus
  • Councillors encouraged to learn Mandarin
In recent months Chinese interests have announced plans for a $500m cultural theme park complex at Warnervale, have bought Magenta Shores residential golf resort at The Entrance and purchased Kooindah Resort and Spa at Wyong with plans to expand it.

They need a football team that can promote there businesses on the coast by being in the Asian Champions League. I know of a team that happens to play on the coast & is regularly part of that tournament

Seems to be a bit of a no-brainer, and it ties in with central coast based businesses. It's in their interests to draw business to the region with a brand ambassador going around the country and around Asia.

Sounds pretty reasonable to want to attract some investors to replace those that have left. Not many like to go these type of things alone.

I know that this is a bit off topic, but I was taken aback the other day while watching the MLS and seeing BHP Billiton as front of shirt sponsor for the Houston Dynamo!

A UK/AUS listed company sponsoring a team in the MLS and not sponsoring an A-League team?

they also have a team named after a tv show (chicago fire)
Did you consider the possibility that the show and the football club are named after a Chicago fire? Like an actual fire? Come on now. You've got to do better.

Established from multiple sources that Charlesworth, having recently relocated back to the UK, recently made clear his intention to sell the club.

Charlesworth has held talks with clubs in England about buying a stake in the Mariners, but privately said his preference was to sell his entire stake.

The telecoms millionaire has only owned the club outright for 15 months but has spoken of his unhappiness at losing money.

However, Charlesworth last night reiterated his comments to The Daily Telegraph made on Wednesday, insisting that he was only seeking further minority shareholders in the football club, and also investors in the Mariners’ Centre of Excellence development at Tuggerah.

In terms of the football club, which is run as a separate business, Charlesworth said: “I am inviting investment but have every intention of staying a part of this wonderful little club and as chairman and majority owner.”

Charlesworth estimates he has invested some $15m in the club and the Centre of Excellence since taking sole control in the week before last year’s grand final.

eh I'm not worried. I think MC won't abandon ship but if he did find a buyer - either minority or majority shareholder - I think he'd take it. so either way all good, with best case scenario being further investment

I don't mind if he stays on board or if he goes, but I genuinely hope he makes his money back.

The state of the league with rising profile, rising crowds, rising ratings etc. all bode well. I think he's mad, and I think he's made a lot of dud calls (like NSO and Brookvale) but if guys come in and do their dough and have to slink out the back door, it means nobody's going to want to invest in one of these clubs.

For the good of the game, you've gotta hope he can attract sufficient investment to be able to walk away with something at the end of this if he does go, or sufficient to be able to grow the club and see his stake rise in value.

I think he is trying not to look desperate to get a good price.

Looks like he wants some people to share the costs but if someone wanted the whole lot then he'd probably happily walk away.

I wonder if the Melbourne City investment has given a thought there is a false market?

Wanderers just been sold & they have double the members & what 10 times the population to attract.

Will be interesting to see if is trying a package deal with COE as that may attract a different sort of buyer to the Football club. Trying to find one that wants both might be harder.

Bilo's friends only want the football club & i'm sure other might to but he might want to hang around to control what the club does in regards to the COE.

Interesting times.

Good luck to him. Why anyone, especially a Leeds United supporter, is concerned about losing a large chunk of money when owning a football club is rather strange. Every one knows that running a football club is a loss making investment. If he didn't know the risks when he took the club on then he really was stitched up good and proper by Peter Turnbull.
Anyways, if the owner changes I want someone who actually understands the nuances of football; someone street smart enough to sew up a Bernie Ibini before Arnie has found his next gig; someone who could spot the McGlinchey spark and put out the fire before it took hold. Someone who can read the football signs early and make proactive decisions.
I am also puzzled where the club will play the NSO game if Foxtel gets its way; if not Brookie. surely there is a stadium on the Central Coast that can do the job?

The most interesting part of the article and maybe its not true is where it says MC is relocating back to the UK ... if true I wonder what if anything it means for us..
