Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Playing with the first again... (struggling with 'did compete' line... but love - winning the seat - and fleshing out the no one rates us...)

We've been around the HAL a couple of times or maybe more.
We've won the SEAT!, and gotten beat (o_O) on many an ASIAN SHORE.
And although nobody rates us,
(And) We don't care NewCastle hates us,
We tell them right away...

Also think Middy is right about losing the 'got'

but use " up the front " instead of "out" the front (bit more of an aussie touch.

sauce bottles maybe not - just because they may not be there in 10 years but the song would be...and not make so much sense

it would be really easy to get people in. before the game you play the tune to the whole stadium and run the words on the screen or on a handout

copyright would be the only hurdle I can see

My latest version... I don't think we need JW's permission to sing it BTW in fact if we send his agent a copy of what we are doing I am sure if the stars aliened and he was near the Coast on a night we played he would come and sing our version cause its gotta be good for him...

Just putting this out there as an idea ...

Maybe when the final words are agreed we contact the local radio stations and let em know what's going on I think it's the kinda idea that would suite especially morning's .. even suggest the primary schools have a contest to see who can sing it the best...

Rowdy me thinks you have started something ...

Sauce bottles
IMO, they're a rather tacky icon NOW, (that I can live with because of the $$$'s) & are only there due to 'Masterfoods' being the major sponsor NOW.

20 years from now? Most likely not

Bowlo out the back
Technically, yeah the Bowlo IS at the back of the ground.
But the the 'Leaguesy' (at the side) ..... well it's our 'Town and Country, where the atmosphere is great and I ALWAYS drink at the Leaguesy ... with my - Mariner Mates' ;)

Singing about 'getting beat' in the Asian Champions League ???

Winning the 'SEAT' was a massive achievement for the Club, so too was it to 'Compete' in Asia. I think BOTH are worthy to be sung about. ;)

Competing in Asia, I remember
Winning the Seat, I'll remember forever!
Losing in Asia .... I'd like to forget about that

I think Aussie vernacular is actually quite the opposite.

When I tell my missus 'I'm going to mow the lawn out the back' she always replies with 'make sure you mow out the front as well!'

She doesn't say 'up the front', neither does the 'True Blue' bloke John Williamson himself .......

"A clothesline out the back
Verandah out the front"

As to the comment about getting JW to write the lyrics? Why ! o_O

We're the Coasties!
JW just happen to write a great Aussie tune that I thought would lend itself well to a song/chant for Bay16 to sing, paying homage to 'Our Home amongst the Palm Tree's' :)

lol, I thought it was maybe self deprecating in a good ol coastie kind of way. But I completely agree otherwise, it's "did" compete that is the problem for me.

Agree about leaguesy out the back. Not a song without some poetic license in there

As to JW and permission...

Forced to do some music licensing in one of my businesses.
The club would obviously need to license it.
Good news is that the rights to re record a song is a lot cheaper and usually much easier to obtain than getting rights to an original recording. I'd also be surprised if the club would even deal with JW. Usually the rights belong to a larger recording company - though sometimes the artists must approve also. I think it's less about whether it can be done. It's just about the desire and dollars. Which is all about it potential isn't it...

The two big questions for me are... can you really see a sold out stadium all singing it as one in ten years time?
Yeah... I can.

Could it really become something special that added to game days, branding and solidarity as a club and supporter base Yeah, I think so.

Depends when they picked it up, 1945 and from a musical... may have been public domain. Ah wait Rogers and Hammerstein were huge. May not have begun as licensed, but I'm sure they would of had to sooner or later.

A Liverpudlian himself, lead vocalist Gerry Marsden of 'Gerry & The Pacemakers told BBC Radio how, in the 1960s, the disc jockey at Anfield would play the top-ten commercial records in descending order, with the number one single transmitted last, shortly before kickoff.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" was number one in the charts for 4 consecutive weeks!

Spectators would sing along, but unlike with other hit singles, once "YNWA" dropped out of the top-ten, instead of disregarding the song, supporters continued to sing it.

LFC were the first BUT certainly WONT be the last to lay claim to the 60's classic song as an anthem for Football Clubs.

The song was later adopted by Scottish team Celtic and is now sung by their fans prior to every home European tie.

As well as .....
Dutch clubs:
Feyenoord, FC Twente and SC Cambuur

Germany's:
Borussia Dortmund, FSV Mainz 05, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, SV Darmstadt 98, Eintracht Braunschweig, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Alemannia Aachen, FC St Pauli, TSV 1860 Munich

Belgium's:
Club Brugge (Matty Ryan's old club)

Japan's: F.C. Tokyo
Spain's: CD Lugo.
