A couple of threads on here have made for some pretty ugly reading.

I thought it would be opportune to take a moment to all just have a look at the table...

[tt]A-League Season 2009-10 Ladder
Updated: 13/9/2009
Team                  P W L D F  A +/- Pts
1.  Gold Coast        6 4 1 1 14  5  9 13
2.  Sydney            6 3 2 1  7  5  2 10
3.  Brisbane          6 2 1 3 10  8  2  9
4.  Central Coast     6 2 2 2  5  4  1  8
5.  Adelaide          6 2 2 2  6  7 -1  8
6.  Newcastle         6 2 2 2  6  9 -3  8
7.  Perth             6 2 3 1  8  8  0  7
8.  Wellington        6 1 2 3  5  6 -1  6
9.  Melbourne         6 1 1 3  7  9 -2  6
10. North Queensland  6 1 3 2  7 13 -6  5[/tt]

...we can see that in spite of the doom and gloom, the wailing and rending of clothes, we're not travelling too badly at the moment thanks very much.

Clearly we haven't spent up like a number of other clubs and some of our football has been dire to watch, but we're not far from the top of the pile. It's a tight comp with all of 3 points from 3rd to 9th, 5 from 2nd to last.

At times we're showing real enterprise, the defence has toughened up (best in the comp) and we've got a couple of new players who are providing some much needed spark.

Hutch is in his best form in a couple of years, Danny's back near his best (aside from Cassio's goal on Friday) and even Mrdja is working to the ball and trying to create options.

So can we not have the declaration of the end of the world every time we lose a game? It's going to happen from time to time. How about everyone takes a big gulp of Chill The f**k Out and we look forward to next week?

If we are to look at the ladder as an indicator of our performance, shouldnt we consider that we have slipped down it? Werent we further up earlier in the season?
Last position (Nth Qld) is on 5 points and we are on 8 and we are not travelling badly? You sure are a "glass half full" person Dibo.
Yes, its early days but I dont think complacency is a luxury we can afford. The game against Adelaide was painful to watch-I think it was the worst performance I have seen the team play.
I agree that new players like McGlinchy and Travis provide some spark, but it doesnt say much about the rest of the team if they rely so heavily on an import for them perform adequately.
Danny is looking good -agreed.
Unfortunately, its not just an occasional loss that causes despair among some fans, its the regularity of losses. (Asia comes to mind as well as last season)
Much as I would like to, I just cant bring myself to look forward to next week. On current form it will be a bloodbath.

we have three points from the last two games and the gold coast have one

i really do not think we will slaughter the gold coast too much but i am glad you are so upbeat about the mariners

I think that there is a considerable level of frustration brought about (IMHO) by:

1) Lackluster, disinterested performances (Brisbane/Adelaide)

2) A disturbing tactical model (take off all your mids/play a right footer on the left)

3) Persitence with players out of/devoid of any sort of form (Elrich/Mrdja)  - Nux played a 17yo yesterday, can you ever imagine us having the balls to do that?

I can stomach us coming 10th if we care and have a go, its these limpwristed rollovers that shit me

Just like someone said before about playing two right footers on the left, I mean WTF is going through LM's head? Is Dapuzzo that bad?

Very true.

Even could have played Lewis there. Why do we sign young players and not blood them now and again. If they aren't good enough for this level, then either get rid of them or give them a run, its only going to make them better players for the experience.

Zullo
Kruse
Oar
Rojas (from Nux)
Danning
Gan
Grant
etc etc etc

Anyone else notice a pattern here, thats right. Young players given a go. We just dont do that

despite scoring a goal was average in the youth game

we have when the quality was there - danny, simon, porter, bozanic, boogaard

unfortunately the youth failed badly last season (as opposed to sydney), we do not have a whole state to choose players from (brisbane (past seasons) or perth) and some of our youth signings ended being pish (mcandrew, woodruffe)

hopefully the bunch coming through this year will rectify that as will hopefully the COE

So if our kids are not good enough to be given a go you would have to think there's something wrong with our scouting ?

Even if it meant missing the post season cup for a season or two....and there's a chance we might anyway.....I'd rather see us give some kids an extended run.

Hopefully once the COE is up and running that might change although I fear that LM is not one for taking a risk.

Kids coming through the COE will be 4/5 years away from the 1st team though.

We need some of this years crop to step up AND be given a chance to play

Are we restricted in where we can scout for kids i.e. is Queensland or WA off limits to us ?

If not why are we restricting ourselves to local youngsters only.We should be trying to uncover the next Kewell etc regardless of where they're from imo.

Do we have a full time or network of scouts or is it all down to LM ?

if they are good enough they will

lawrie has a long history of promoting youth and has already mentioned a couple of the current crop as possibly breaking through to first team football by the end of the season

bear in mind though that the most successful a-league teams of the last five seasons are ones that have carried the most experienced players

the downside of this experience has meant that teams have been unable to maintain a dynasty

no, but the home clubs will always have the inside running on the best young players in their area

Gold Coast
Round 4
1-0 loss to Jest

Round 5
2-1 win vs Sydney

Round 6
2-2 draw with Perth

that's 4 points in last 2 games (well 4 points in last 3 games as well)

forget bout Sydney???

Yeah I accept that will be the case but it shouldn't stop us trying. If CCM were seen to be a club where youngsters were given a go it could lead to us picking up some of the cream in the future.

We obviously struggle for whatever reason to attract the marquee type to the club so why not try and uncover the best youth and get them here.

I remember when Andy Gray (A Glaswegian) signed for DUFC he knocked back Celtic and Rangers because we had a reputation for playing kids.He was top scorer in the old 1st Div at 17 years old. Then we sold him to Villa for a record fee at the time.At that time we had several teenagers playing in the first team and flirted with relegation in the first year of the SPL.It paid off when these same teenagers minus the odd sale won the league a few years later.

I see CCM in a similar situation, can't afford the big signings and need to sell occasionally to keep the coffers topped up.If we don't have a conveyer belt of good youngsters coming through we'll always struggle on and off the park.
