Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Did this need a thread separate to 'Give Arnie A Chance'?

Seems to be covering the same ground to me.

For the record, my personal view is that this will be a complete disaster both on a football and PR/community front.

However..............I hope I am proved 100% wrong and will refrain from being unduly negative initially.

Best I can do

Amen, sat through his time at Northern Spirit FC and lately through the Australian side and nothing appears to have changed as a manager he is just not up to it tactically.
Also have my doubts he can work on the community level which is a integral part of
Central Coast Mariners FC

Which is just as well we still have Lawrie on board.

He can still invite people over for BBQs or shave his chest for charity and maintain the community links.

Couldn't see Arnie doing all this to be honest.

My thoughts for what their worth..........His coaching record is certainly not flash to date most noteably in my memory because I was there is the last Asian Cup, he had Viduka & Kewell etc and they were terrible in that tournament! Having said that, club level is a differant kettle of fish and he would have learnt a lot since Northern Spirit days one would think. The other point to make is he is very well liked and respected by the players in the National Team setup so he may be able to use those ties to attract some high profile players to come play for us? He comes accross as a bit arrogant and will be a vastly differant personality from affable Lawrie thats for sure. Having said all that I will give him a go as I think we would all agree something needed to happen and time will tell if Lyle etc have made the correct descision?

Lawries own words in his move over speech were that he will be able to get back to his season 1-3 community involement.
Even he found being able to juggle too many roles at one time daunting. (GA, public face of soccer . socceroo coach, ollyroo coach surelyno other coach has had that load?)

It could even be that the weight of both community engagement and running the football side was simply too much - both appear to have suffered over the last couple of years.

i am very interested to what he will say tonight on Fox Sports FC

And at todays media session (alas the only day this week I wasn't/couldn't be on the coast!!)

"Newly appointed Central Coast Mariners head coach Graham Arnold will take control of his first training session this Tuesday, 16 February at Bluetongue Stadium, Gosford, and will front the media for the first time immediately after the session.

The final 15 minutes of the session only will be open to the media for overlay and photograph opportunities from approximately 11:30am, and a media conference will be conducted at 12:00pm, where Arnold will speak of his new appointment for the first time, alongside Football and Commercial Operations Manager Lawrie McKinna and Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman."

I hope the real hard questions were asked!

Why are they training? We don't have a competitive match until July at least. I would have thought the players might be due a break?

Vision for TV?

Maybe it is more who are they training? lol

Perhaps it is the Youth? - who dropped out of top spot with the bye and now have a fight all the way to the finals.

Good point, but 1pt behind Perth with a game in hand and a massive goal difference advantage looks OK to me. They're 5 pts ahead of 5th as well with 3 to play.

Dibo, you haven't seen them play recently ... it will be a fight (esp. playing home games at Pluim which doesn't suit them)

Maybe it's so GA can see who he's got, and start forming opinions on who he wants to keep and who he needs to bring in?

It's probably just to say "HI U GIZE" and give the press something to write about

Graham Arnold On Fox Sports FC tonight.
Do I hear an echo?

"Arnold flags changes
Tuesday, 16 February 2010
by Sportal

After 10 successful years with the national team, incoming Central Coast coach Graham Arnold is confident he can guide the Mariners back to the top of the Hyundai A-League next season.

Arnold was appointed Mariners coach last week and took charge of his first session at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford on Tuesday.

Arnold does not officially take charge until after his national team commitments end after this year's World Cup.

But he was keen for an early start to run his eye over the squad.

Arnold said he could not wait to get back into club coaching after so long with the national team.

"I've had a wonderful experience working with the Socceroos but club coaching is always something I wanted to get back into," Arnold said.

"The job really starts in July but with so much work to do I wanted to get an early start."

"I'm excited to get out on the field every day."

Arnold said recruitment is vital if the Mariners are to return to the top of the table next season.

After a horror run of results the Mariners missed the finals and finished only one point clear of wooden-spooner Adelaide this campaign.

"For the club to be successful again changes have to be made," Arnold said.

"We need a fresh start and a big part of that is recruiting new players to the club. We've got to work within the salary cap but I've got a lot of contacts overseas so recruitment is the first crucial thing we've got to get right."

Several players, including defenders Dean Heffernan and Nigel Boogaard, have already moved on, while many others are off contract.

"It's all about balance," Arnold said.

"I'm looking at some left-sided players. The defence was the third best in the league this season so that's fine, but we need more depth. I also want to bring in some pace up front. I'm looking at players the crowd will come to see."

Arnold said he was looking forward to forming a good working relationship with outgoing coach Lawrie McKinna.

McKinna has stayed on as the club's football and commercial operations manager".
----------------------------------------

"I'm looking at some left-sided players. The defence was the third best in the league this season so that's fine, but we need more depth" - statistics and damn lies, and as well as that Heff and Boogs are gone!!!

"I also want to bring in some pace up front" - Amen

"I'm looking at players the crowd will come to see" - Amen again brother

Define the word 'successful'.

If he doesn't start until July, how does recruiting and pre-season work?
