Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

heff and mile defintely out, wilko, hutch and dylan in doubt

i'm going:

danny
clark bojic wilko d'appuzzo
elrich hutch porter osman
sasho carceras

bench: bozza, mrdja, o'grady (smokey for bench) and one other

Just interested to know, is that more about wanting Caceras in a striker's position (i.e. in preference to Mrjda) or more about including Osman?

Ozzy has played a heap in the pre season now, including a full game on Saturday. I think he will start

*sniffs*

smells like a 4-2-3-1 by another name.

This game is going to be a ripper, we will want revenge and scum will want to get off to a flyer.  How will injuries and suspension affect the game though?

Mariners potential starting 11 if injuries are not good

----------------Danny
Clark-----Bojic-------Wilko-------D-Appuzzo
Elrich------Hutch----Porter-------Cacreres
----------Sasho-----Mrdja

Bench - Bosnich/Redders, Osman, and then we're looking at Brady Smith and Nathan Sherlock!

We have concerns over Boogs, Jedinak, Macca and Heff, probably all rated at 50/50!  Greg Owens, Stringers and Gumps are definitely out.  Matty Simon is also unavailable.

If we can get 2 of those 50/50's fit at least we'll have a full bench of first teamers!

Scum arn't without their concerns too, does anyone know if they have any injury concerns?  North and Holland are at the Olympics so will be out and they certainly look thin at the back!

I guess they could play :

-------------Covic
Elrich----Griffiths--Kovacic---Thompson
------------Spencer
--Patafta-----Song----Kakansson
---------Griffths----Zura

Bench - Kennedy, D'Appuzo, Wheelhouse, Ontong/Hoffman? I dunno?

We'll be relying on Hutch to have a massive game, we'll be hoping Elrich and Caceres have big games, and we'll hope that Nik can get through 90 mins!

Scum can get beaten at the back, but they will be impressive going forward and create plenty of opportunities, how our boys handle that is a big question, but I reckon we can win the battle!  What's to expect from Zura? I personally think he'll go ok, a lot of expectations on his shoulders being the marquee, and what affect will that have on J Griffiths?

Does anyone know what will happen if/when the Olyroos lose? Will North, Simon or Holland be available? I wouldn't have thought so?

I read they would be back friday. I dont think they would rush up to the game. But they may.

just a squad i put up and may not be what the gaffa puts

it was in preference to leaving mrdja on the bench and not risking him for another season - he is still fragile and may not take to starting well

IMO Caceras wasted up front. I like Micks line up, but with Ozzy at right mid, Caceras at left mid, and Elrich up front

Ahh, but am I Sasho or Elrich ;)

I would actually go for those 2 up front, yeah. Sasho is always good for a tap in, and who knows with Elrich, his 1st start for Wellington he scored a cracker, if he only scores once this year, let it be Friday night and let it be the winner, then I could not give a shit if he did nothing for the other 21 rounds.

Elrich and Sash up front lol, I'd pull my hair out in frustration at no running in the final third!

What would be nice to see perhaps?

-------------Danny
Clark----Bojic-----Wilko----D'Appuzzo
------Osman----Hutch/Porter
--Elrich----Hutch/Porter----Caceres
-------------Sasho

Could work? Our strength is on the wings and with Hutch or Porter pushing through the middle too would give us options.  Osman has played CM before, could do it again.

Certainly headaches for Lawrie

i really, really like that formation, especially if newcastle play three at the back like they did in the grand final

cold day in hell though

Lawrie played with it a little in V2 when we lost Mori and it worked ok, then Mrdja f**ked his knee again and reverted back to 4-4-2

he may not list it that way, but look at how they play. in attack they may well shape up like that, with someone sitting deeper off the front to give it that effective shape, while shaping the defence like a 4-4-2.

look at when heff's fit - in defence we're a 4-4-2, in attack we're a 3-5-2 because heff or oz wraps wide of the mid in front of them either creating with the ball or when the ball's on the other flank at the opposite wide midfielder's feet creating the far post option.

I like Deej's formation. I would prefer Porter to go in the attacking mid role with Hutch playing as centre mid and Osman as Defensive mid. I expect big things from Porter this season

Oh really - hope so but I assumed he would have Sydney v Melb and we would c**tface Breeze?

I'll have to make my banner for him

i am aware of when the 4-4-2 changes for the extra man in the midfield going to a 3-5-2 or even 3-6-1, but at no time has the formation moved to what dj has listed

newcastle play fairly narrow and i like the idea of two defensive midfielders allowing the outside backs to push more forward

melbourne will be spewing if they get breeze for the sydney game

though sydney are at home and he may go for the usual away team
