Also, LOL at saying GVE isn't arrogant.

So does GVE talk to the press and say "the Jets would never have won the championship without me", or "today we won because of my excellent coaching skills", or "I am the best coach in the A-League" in a similar fashion to what Fatro does?

Agree. Considering his complete lack of game time, they could surely have done better

Yeah, but as somebody pointed out on newcastlefootball.net, Smeltz was playing conference with halifax before he came to the A-League

I'll give him a chance to see how he goes, but won't be surprised if he fails

The Newcastle Jets have bolstered their squad for the forthcoming AFC Champions League 2009 with local players Mitchell Johnson, Peter Haynes and Joel Wood all signing 6-month contracts with the club this morning.

Despite all being Novocastrian players, the trio have each walked a unique path to earn their place in the Jets squad, and have shown great work ethic and determination to do so.

Johnson, 24, burst onto the scene as a youngster with Newcastle United in the National Soccer League competition and became a stand-by player for the Australian team for the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championships. The following year Johnson embarked on a sojourn to Europe, where he trialled with the likes of Stade Rennais in France and Partick Thistle in Scotland.

However, the promising midfielder was unable to secure a contract at this time and missed out on the opportunity to join a club for the inaugural Hyundai A-League season in 2005/06. Johnson found employment in the Hunter region coal mines in the meantime, but returned to the Jets to trial last week and his decision to return to the pitch was rewarded this morning with a contract.

Haynes comes to the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 Champions as the leading goalscorer in the Northern NSW State Football League competition, with a record 23 goals for eventual champions Broadmeadow Magic in 2008. Indeed, Haynes scored in a trial against the Jets for the Magic in early July, when he netted a sublime 30-yard strike. In addition to his on-field commitments, the striker has been working as the Community Football Officer for Northern NSW Football.

Wood, meanwhile, has recently returned to Newcastle from a stint in the Hong Kong first division with Tuen Mun Progoal. Before his move to Asia last September, the athletic 24-year-old formed a formidable strike partnership with Haynes at Broadmeadow Magic and trained heavily with the Jets throughout the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season.

Jets Chief Executive Officer John Tsatsimas today welcomed the three local products to the Hyundai A-League club.

Mitchell, Peter and Joel are all very talented players who will each add something different to our squad over the next six months.

Newcastle is one of the true heartlands of football in this country, and has been a producer of fine talent for many, many years. We have a long, proud history of the game in the Hunter region and its players like these that have ensured that this strong tradition has been maintained.

Its always a pleasure to welcome new players to our club, but it is certainly special on this occasion given that all three players are Novocastrians, he said.

The Newcastle Jets have signed talented youngster Nikolas Tsattalios on a 6-month contract. The left-sided player has been training with the Jets since last week and will be part of the squad for the upcoming AFC Champions League 2009.

Appropriate clearances will be exchanged between the Jets and Tsattalios former club Sydney FC to finalise the deal in the coming days, with the Jets first Champions League game on Tuesday, 10 March away to Beijing Guoan fast approaching.

The 18-year-old has appeared 6 times in total for Sydney FC in the Hyundai A-League, making his debut at 17 years 225 days when he came off the bench against Perth Glory in Round 8 of the 2007/08 season. The gifted teenager also appeared for the Sky Blues in the AFC Champions League 2007 competition, giving him valuable experience ahead of the Jets maiden journey into Asias most prestigious club competition.

A product of the New South Wales Institute of Sport football program, Tsattalios offers the Jets a valuable left-footed option within the squad.

Nik is a very talented young player and someone that we are very pleased to have at our club, club CEO John Tsatsimas said this morning.

He is still of course very youthful and has plenty of time as a footballer ahead of him, so were happy to have the chance to see him progress here.

Our coaching staff in Gary van Egmond and Mark Jones have a fabulous record of really developing quality young talent and bringing out the best in young players. Were certain that Nik will go from strength to strength in his time in Newcastle, he concluded.

Yeah...it's pretty rubbish....though better then there last one...as has been said, less of the shit colour and more of red and blue.

It looks like a womans shirt tbh...Could just be the way it's sitting on the mannequin, but it looks like it has a womans cut to it.

And it doesnt get much better

Trial against Bling tonight and they lost again - report from SFC MB.

SFC 2 (Aloi$i, Cole free kick) Newcastle 1 (De Groot)

Both teams made quite a few subs trying a bit of experimentation - Newy for ACL and us for the China trip.

Our starting line up was:

          Crazy Ivan
Grant - Colosimo - Jurman - Cole
          McFlynn - Disco Stu
Gan -        Corica -    Brosque
                Aloi$i

Finishing line up was very different to this.

We had the much better of the game. Other than De Groot's well taken chip over Bolton in the 2nd half (and a couple of other decent chances) you wondered where Newcastle were going to score from. Supply to the front is going to be an issue. If the ACL teams they drew are half decent, they will struggle badly. De Groot and Vignaroli, not bad. Not world beaters but they know what to do with the ball. Vignaroli has half decent movement off the ball.

Colosimo - Jurman centre back pairing = good !! We should have won by more. We had a few more chances.

Quote of the game:
"f**k Me Dead" - Covic when Cole's free kick slipped past him in the wet.  Heard 50 metres away Grin

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Covic to sign a new contract within the week
I dont think any club needs a keeper hence why Covic will have to resign. Most clubs have better keepers than Covic and Melbourne will have 3.
