Sack Mrdja

Isaka Cernak would be worth pinching...
But rather David Williams from Fury - he's wasted with 10 minutes off the bench at Fury and should/would be an easy choice at right mid for us...
sigh...

Mrdja was awful... (He had company)
but worst of all for me ... was after him giving an absolute earful to Travis our best on park at the time...  Travis coincidentally then went quiet.
Some said it must be fitness... I don't think it was. Hard not to go into your shell on a new team when someone like Nik starts screaming at you...
Harden up... maybe... but not good team play.

give me Mrdja anyday shows his passion it was a shit pass from Travis and he deserved a ear bashing What in the f##k has Matty done. Players like Mrdja are detrimental to their team. From my experience, yelling at a player won't get him to do something better next time, it just damages their confidence and puts them off their own game. Is it just me or does the whole team lift when he goes off?

On top of that, he hasn't struck up a partnership with any of our other strikers. All you have to do is look at the second goal against Perth last weekend to see that Matty and Dmac are a far better combination.

Yes. he might be able to get back to something resembling good form if he keeps playing, however his attitude is leading him nowhere. Better off having him as a part player or playing off the bench than being the focus up front for 90 mins, otherwise we may have to get used to flat, uninspiring performances from the team.

I noticed that too. Interesting, because Travis, for a new boy, is not afraid to give the odd spray either.

And the player he sprayed was more than deserving IMO.

iv'e noticed that over the last 2 weeks that Disco nik has improved.
this would be a good game to step it up again....

Yes, I concur typool. He slotted a few nice passes and held the ball up nicely on a few occasions as well. He was also involved in more play which is probably an indication of an improvement in fitness. There certainly hasn't been a dramatic lift when the likes of Kwassie and DMac come on the field so there is a case to give Mrdja more opportunity to improve IMO. Thing is, I probably wouldn't have had Mrdja on the field in the last game. I hope Lawrie's faith is well placed. Only time will tell I suppose.

Hate to be pessamistic, but history shows that he is probably 4 or 5 games before he is out for the season ;P

Unfortunately whilst Nik has looked improved over the last two games, he has definitely looked below par in comparison to all of the other strikers in the A league over the last two rounds. He has never looked like he can or even might score this season. I want to be wrong. But I can see very little evidence to the contrary.

That said, to be fair to Nik, our entire attack has been lacking, with little creativity, poor service and slow movement being genuine issues. But the hard facts are, that we have only scored 3 goals in our last 5 games and Nik is clearly the weakest link... I agree that Matty is not having a great time up front either and neither is Dylan... and to be honest... its not even just not getting on the sheet that worries me... its that NONE of them are looking like they are going to get on the sheet very often at all... though Matty looks the most likely, most consistently for mine, and is the only striker as yet on the sheet.

A few stats...

To put things into proper perspective - Matt Simon has played more than twice the amount of game time as the other strikers, but that was largely as a lone striker -

Matt Simon
Goals  - 2
Attempts - 9
On target - 4
Assists - 0
Offsides - 13
Fouls - 13

Nik Mrdja -
Goals - 0
Attempts - 4
On target - 0
Assists - 0
Offsides - 1
Fouls - 7

D Mac (with 45 mins approx less game time than Nik)
Goals - 0
Attempts - 3
On target - 1
Assists - 1
Offsides - 1
Fouls - 7

Mc Glinchey
Goals - 1
Attempts - 5
On target - 3
Assists - 1
Offsides - 0
Fouls - 5

And now to REALLY put things into perspective...

Nigel Boogard
Goals - 1
Attempts - 4
On target - 2
Assists - 0
Offsides - 0
Fouls - 10

Alex Wilkinson
Goals - 1
Attempts - 4
On target - 2
Assists - 0
Offsides - 0
Fouls - 9

Attacking woes?

ANSWER...

A three pronged attack comprised of Boogs Wilko and McGlinchey should take care of our attacking problems!
  :piano:

Seriously now...

It's depressing... but it's also insightful...

I included fouls as it shows just how much Matty puts himself about - only Pedj is in front of him with 17 fouls committed.

Offsides... Like fouls, usually considered a negative stat, but a striker who is NEVER caught offside either A) Possesses demonic powers or B) Is never trying to break the line. Don't jump on me, I fully understand target men and hold up play. But 1 offside for Dylan and 1 for Nik verse Matts 13 offsides tells a story imo. We certainly need another striker who can break or at the very least stretch the line or atleast will try. Mrdja rarely if ever stretches or breaks the line and rarely if ever creates/finds any space for himself, and unfortunately his hold up play is only average. And if you've played 250 odd minutes of football as a striker but haven't managed to put a single shot on target... something is wrong - or your just not good enough.

D Mac is again unfortunately looking a similar to Nik, but generally speaking he creates more space and looks more threatening than Nik on the ball imo.

But at the end of the day... It's simply woeful.
I want to say step up... But in truth I'm just not sure that they can. And I don't want to bag the shit out of these players, because they may honestly be doing there very best. But we quite clearly seem to need more. At the very least we still need a quality AM now Wolfe is reported useless... and to splash the Canberra cash and whatever else they can scrape together on a Marquee striker who is fast and has good feet is looking like a must imo.

Otherwise...
If 2 of your teams 3 strikers are being outscored 6 games into the season by Wilko...
then your team is in serious trouble.

To be fair to Dmac, he has been played out of position a bit this season (i.e. out on the right wing) when we were playing the 4231.

Same deal with Matty when Mrdja was on. Mrdja became the lone striker and Matt got pushed out wide.

Come on now guy's, this is whats called firepower. A firepower that was to have the ability to negate any plans that Adelaide could muster against us.

It's a good point, and I don't think DMac has looked to bad, He deserves another decent shot in my opinion... but as Scottmac is being driven steadily insane by... We certainly do need to need some more firepower. I also hate this whole Clunky, workman ploddr belief about our team. We've been branded by this shit before, but it simply hasn't been true.. This year we are in all honesty looking the part...

backline is solid (particularly when Brad isn't RB)
Hutch and Pedj are in good form...
Wee macs great, Travis is looking promising - if the two can combine they may significantly  help our creative issues...
BUT we clearly need another injection of class (or two) into our attack.
As we are clearly struggling wide and up front.

Harper and Cockerhill made a good point in commentary tonight after Mrjda missed the goal from 1m out -

MC: "How many times has Mrjda used his right foot in his career?"
AH: "Put a duck egg in that column"
