Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I like reading all this conjecture about having Elrich at RB. To me it simply won't happen, and it seems like folks are dancing around the prospect of putting Clark and Travis on, even though Lawrie has them in his squad and they must be fit.

The simplest thing to do if Porter is unfit or only good for half a game would be to utilise Clarkey @ RB. He's not had any injuries of late has he? For someone who is 30+ he's one of the fittest professional sports people in Australia, so I would back him to do at least 75 minutes against Brisbane Roar. Has he lost speed? Is his anticipation still up to the expected level?

I'd also consider putting Travis on instead of Elrich. Run him - he surely must be fit - and put Elrich on later in the game if he's not keeping up. It's looking like it will be hot there tomorrow, so maybe it's better to know if this Pom can handle the heat now - while you have option s to replace him if he cannot handle it - then later in the season when the midfield might be depleted with suspensions and injury.

Trying out a player with skill (I've only seen 10 or so minutes of Travis but his passing is very good and he took a corner in Melbourne that was quite deadly), like Travis, would seem a safer option than throwing someone, who has played most of his professional career either on the wing or in the midfield, as your last line of defence. The notion about him only doing some holding up of faster players won't ring true if he attempts a tackle and ends up spilling a spot penalty.

With respect... Clarke shouldn't even be wasting a spot in the squad, let alone starting.

I expressed my reservations about running Clark, but mine are only if he is fit enough and still has the ability in him.

You seem to think it's more than that and that he shouldn't be even listed in the squad?

He HAS done the job, particularly on Roar, in the past, so my only reservations are about him still having it.

Running Elrich or Travis in the defence line, would be more of a risk than running Clark. Do we have any other defender?

Why is everyone putting Travis in RB, when he is listed as a forward? IMO Elrich would be a better prospect at RB than an untried forward.

Travis is not a forward. By his own admission he is a box to box midfielder. A box to box mid could be asked to do a job at RB if needed, rather it didn't happen but hey, if need be.

By the time the traveling Marinators get there, I don't think they'll notice. :)
