. biggest thing for me has been the 4-4-2 defensive block

. if the average punter can understand it, it should mean your young and inexperienced backline can understand it

. such a contrast to the complication of last season where i had no idea what was going on and it seems neither did the backline

Accidentally put this in the Sydney forum and it was meant for here:

Milicic has already been found out. One game and his/Jolic’s simple game plan was easily countered.

Players that have been passable for the Mariners the last few seasons are playing out of their skin.

There seems a real team spirit in the squad and I think Ollie has made a real difference here. It was noticeable post game last week when he got them together for a chat.

The rift between Stajcic and Simon also appears to be healed. Genius move making him a coach and mentor. He is less renegade now and playing with real maturity.

I like the change of tactics as well. Dumping the curriculum rubbish and reliance on possession football, to one based on a solid defensive structure and more direct style of play.

The key now is to adjust when other teams play to our tactics.

The perfect away performace.
Let them have as much of the ball as they like and make them break down our 2 rigid banks of 4. They couldnt.
Lovely finish by DDS and the competition for places has certainly lit a rocket under him. Too often over the Charlesworth years the starters were under no pressure. Well played Staj
Bouman was super impressive, hard game to come into as a #10 but when he got free he showed real class to set up Smylie - who surprised me by putting away a chance he had time to think about. Experienced Puim watchers know what I mean.
Our game management is now really professional - I think the 3 visa players will add even more competition for spaces which drives everyone.
For what its worth, my MoM was Ollie who pretty well ran it from midfield

One of the coaches you mentioned did damage to CCM that has taken nearly 3 years to eradiate. So happy to see him being found out now

agree about the tactics. There’s a stigma in this country, because of that stupid curriculum, around this kind of defensive counter attacking tactic. Yeah it can be risky giving up so much ball but they’ve clearly drilled it until the lads have spewed on the training paddock. And it delivers results, mourinho has become one of the best coaches of the last 20years building defensive tactics.
the most interesting thing for me is, will he stick with it when the high attacking and creative ability of particularly Urena and Janota come in or does he have a second plan that is built around them?
I’d prefer him to fit them into this current tactic. Simmo will drop out and Kuol will explode with a partner like Urena but flip side, eventually players like perhaps nizzy (because he’s been right mid) and casella will lose minutes. It’s a brilliant problem to have.

This so much.
Reminds of the Arnie days. Get the defence solid and then take it from there.

I know it is an unusual thing, but I believe it is called depth.

Although the expert Bosnich said no way I am pretty sure Clisby popped his collar bone. Luckily it went back in easily. Notice he was shaking hands with his left after the game.

Macarthur have a few problems to deal with. After two games, they have scored ZERO goals in open play (apart from a deflected penalty).

For all the hype around the “attacking” Bulls, and a glut of wasted possession, Milicic is looking like an amateur. Staj took Ante to school today (then gleefully nicked his lunch money).

Well...there you go back to back on the road wins ..been a fair while
both goals were great ...Bouman was great , NizzMonsta was same as NYE , RT and Kye were on point
Birraz is a superhero , Olly Boz , Clis and DDS were great ...Matty Simon didn’t kill someone or get a card , so that’s a thing even if Bozza called him a bully and after watching the game I reckon Staj might just be starting change my mind
Matty got a card when he smashed the Blonde kid.
