Round 16 - Sheep-shaggers v Mariners

That spell of dominance seems to be dying.

The nix seem quite content atm to just sit 10 men behind the ball and try and use the pace of Bertos and Hearfield on the counter. Very frustrating for us as this is proving very difficult to break down.

Down the left hand side looks like being where the goal will come from. Hutch, Caceres and Heff are combining well at times and have carved up Muscat a couple of times.

Jedinak hasn't seemed to stop running at all this first half and IMO we are unlucky to go into the break behind.

Give Adrian till 60 min to see how he is going then move the formation to a 334 and Sasho on.

Half time... we had some nice switches, and some promising attack, but we need to play better than this... New Zealand a bit lucky with the lead ATM though, IMO. Sucks that we conceded so early as well. And Caceras... easy chance, and failed.  :-\

Heff is so under done it isnt funny. Take him off if he lasts 60 and go 343

Doesn't look comfortable w/ the ball at his feet, keeps trying to make runs w/ the ball but has been stripped every time. He needs to square it in and continue his run down the left to get in behind and receive it back, ala Heff V.1

2nd Half with the wind at our backs (it looks pretty fcuking strong) would def suit 4-3-3, but i'd wait to see if we can regain some compusure in the midfield first before resorting to this formation.

Gosh that was infurating, Phoenix deserved much more than 1-0. Simply atrocious, should have started with five strikers, wasting time having those defenders on there.

Looks like they're doing everything they can to drop out of the top four.

How the hell are we not level yet?

Surely Sasho or Nik have to come on soon

Awaits the usual apologists for being out coached, out thought and out muscled to try to defend what was absolute f**king shite.

We have no guile, no subtlety and we panic when behind = hooooooooooof

We lose, 1-0 f**kKKKKKKKKKKK tthat was so frustrating to watch.  :headbutt:

We didn't handle the Nix pressuring us, they played our normal tactics of being 'physical' & it paid off for them. Tooooo much of the play going through the middle. Our shape when going forward seemed tight/compacted with passing 'hot balls' to players who always seemed to have a player on their back instantly when trying to turn&go, which they shouldn't have been trying.

Gumps squared some balls in and then play switched to the opposite flank giving Heff some time and space but this only happened 3/4 times. Mile tried to go forward too many times imo with heavy touches only to regain it back luckily, only to repeat the heavy touch again and then be stripped and whalah! be caught out when the Nix quickly countered.

Lawrie seemed not to have a clue how to deal with Sully's  ;) tactics.

Thank fcuk they didn't bring Kwassie on  8)

After the encouraging showing against Sydney, this was a definite let-down. There MUST be a big improvement for the Newcastle and Perth games.
