ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Good article except we have not played a 442 diamond for a while...
It says we've "Only once in the previous 26 rounds had the Mariners altered their shape, moving momentarily to a 4-4-2 diamond."
its 4-2-3-1 and when we get the ball 3 - 3 - 3- 3 - 1.
We're really only in a 4-2-3-1 at kickoffs; we defend in a 4-4-2, the attack is a 3-3-3-1, you've got one too many threes!
However and this comes with lots of bias because the 5-4-1 was a formation I played in for years as a right mid with over lapping runs from the right back .... but 5-4-1 can be very attacking because wide players can push up and wide mids are very free .... but as I said I am very bias with this formation...
The article's only saying we defended in a 5-4-1 rather than the usual 4-4-2. That's a statement of fact; it doesn't have any opinion in it to be biased or not.

The defensive 5-4-1 means that the transition between defence and attack (and vice versa) is very quick - the fullbacks and wingers each either drop one line back and compress the play or get one line up and expand it, and we get from 3-3-3-1 to 5-4-1 and back in one move, from:

Ibini - - - - Trifiro - - - - Fitzy

In this, Monty is basically playing the 'Hutch' role, and normally he'd stay in midfield in defence and only drop between the CBs in attack. Removing this movement in transition ensures we don't get caught out with fast movement around the CBs (basically meaning it's harder for Berisha, Broich and Petratos to pull us out of position in transition to leave us exposed).

Some one tell mike mulvey there are two parts to a game - defending & attacking. They did neither very well & we had no problem creating chances.

Cracks me up when attacking teams complain about defences set up to stop them.
No shit that's the aim of the game. The reason they complain is because it worked
