Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Rd 9 Mariners vs Fury

They weren't happy with their limited view of the game, and expressed as much to one of the individuals there, who had a couple of choice words with them.

TBH what do you expect if you are sitting down in a designated 'active support' bay.

Where they brothers? Twins? They looked identical. I think they share a brain. Obviously they had no concept of 'behind the goal' bays rules.

Credit to all nearby, including security, as it was properly dealt with without any serious argy-bargy.

I was to the left behind and gave one of em a clip round the ear when he threw the second beer and told them we are all Mariners fans together and to behave themselves.
At least they had Mariners Polo's on but threatening to bash and abusing your own fans is not on. I think they were just very drunk?
My daughter (who was not with me)said the security guards were rough with them when they threw them out.

Clip around the ear is the least they deserved. Absolute muppets.

Aaaaaaanyway, moving along - f**king amazing night. Still stoked.

I don't think they were thrown out. I heard that they were pretty much let go at the top of the stairs. Then they scored to start harassing kids to try and find out who got them "ejected". Muppets.7

. good to see a few posts in this thread - the reading has been a bit light recently ... obviously some found inspiration in the performance

. not for the first time this season i have been relating our efforts to season 1. we seem to be maintaining our intensity for the full 90+, heads don't drop if we go down a goal. all we need now is for rose to start contributing goals from left back, SP to be signed as our guest striker and we are on our way

as for the players:

. ryan ... can't really fault him (a deflection and an own goal away from another clean sheet). i am not too concerned about his clearances - as has been mentioned his distribution is better than danny and the fact he takes a little longer on the ball does show a bit of confidence on the ball

. rose ... went a bit quiet after a poor ball led to their first. he became shy (possibly injured) and turned the ball backwards by default

. swayze ... the guy is a legend. set up a goal with a great run forward and scored the winner. not much else to say

. wilko ... i think bigPat has given him some confidence to venture forward a bit. obviously panic set in and i think he should have had a dig at goal - nerves were no longer the issue when he had a crack from the edge of the 18 yard box later, good to see. even better to hear arnie encouraging his talents publicly after the match

. pedj ... ledg. always been a favourite of mine, but has become more consistent. seems to maintain better control of the ball (not tangled in his feet so often) and just keeps going

. griffiths ... i think he was (on recent evidence) the better option. but perhaps he got the 'old team' yips because he wasn't quite into the game - his slide tackles were getting later and later

. ollie ... considering the conditions seemed surefooted and in control. rose going quiet had an effect, they do seem to be working on a nice partnership

. the wee-man ... had an awesome game. the glimpses of talent we saw last year seem to be lasting the full 90. taking players on in the 18 yard box and pinpoint crosses - something is working for him

. weePat ... the subject of a lot of attention. he seems quite resilient for such a little fella - sandwiched on many occasions. allowed macbreen to win a penalty (converted with confidence) should have won another himself and was positioned perfectly for matty's goal - could have had a hattrick on his home debut

. macbreen ... has many of the qualities we have long respected in matty. should have put away a simple header - i hope he wasn't thinking of his goal celebration. the way he and matty put themselves about should set things up for our reserve strikers in the last 15-20 mins but unfortunately it is not happening that way

. matty ... appears to be too desparate to score (much like his first season) hopefully the tap in will relieve some pressure. considering he now has the support around him with a mobile and attacking midfield he is spending too much time on the ball. i am constatntly frustrated by seeing him head for goal when he is not in a position to get enough power on the ball ... there have been a few instances where he should just nod it down/back to a team mate - needs to become more aware of his support options

The Mariners against North Queensland at times played Total Football – “Total Football” was invented by Dutchman Rinus Michels and pioneered by Ajax in the early seventies and had its height with the Dutch national side in the 1974 World Cup. Total Football is where a player who moves out of position is replaced by another member of the team, thus retaining the team's intended organizational structure. In this fluid system, no player is fixed in a nominal role|
At the start of the second half Patrick Zwaanswijk took a cross field pass from Wilkinson and immediately passed forward about 15 metres to Ollie Bozanic and continued his forward run, Bozanic returned the pass and this time Patrick hit the ball precisely forward to Patricio Perez, and by now was dominating the midfield; meanwhile Griffiths rotated back to fill the space left by Patrick. Patrick then took the return from Perez and hit another forward pass, to the feet, to McGlinchey who now had the NQF defender at his mercy, skipping by him his inch perfect cross was met by Perez who had made a run from deep into the penalty area. Although his first time volley was blocked Simon put home the rebound. Total Football!
In the first half Alex Wilkinson made a sharp run into the box to get free for cross that to create a half chance. The point to make here is that both centre backs were willing to attack in open play, not just set pieces – how many A league teams can claim both CBs would do this?
Add to this Matt Ryan – he came bravely out at the feet of the giant Eugene Sseppuya, won the ball, and within two seconds was on his feet and throwing an outlet pass down the right wing, past the halfway line to McGlinchey who fed Perez whose cross was butchered by McBreen – fast break intelligent football. Brilliant!
Every team member in every position involved in great attacking intentions; keep this up and the crowds will come flocking back.

Great point! The header missed by Mcbreen was terrible but the build up was super fast and very well setup.

You would think that WeeMac would be very loyal to the club as we basically revived his career. Not to mention, it put him in the shop window for NZ and got him to the world cup. Obviously we do need to sign him up as he is in top form this year but I'd hope he wouldn't be off chasing $$$, especially within the A-league.

Weemac is a throw back to the golden age of scottish football (yes, they had one!)the time when Celtic won the European Cup. Scottish football was renowned for its skill and flair - Dennis Law, Paddy Crerand, Jim Baxter, Alex Young etc and one feature was that of the terrifyingly skilful dribbling winger who could skin his full back every time - Jimmy Johnstone of Celtic, Willie Henderson at Rangers, Davie Wilson, also Rangers and Alex Scott at Everton (who won the title with him in the sixties). McGlinchey showed on Saturday he is a worthy follower in their great footsteps.

Yeah i've watched the replay and was too hash on Ryan. I'd give him somewhere between a 6 and 6.5. Couple of good saves late on.
At the game I felt nervous watching him but watching on the telly he was unlucky rather than anything else.
I still think we need a first string experienced keeper.
