Hmmm... a little disappointed... I have to say - I think that was our worst this season... not outright poor but pretty mediocre till the last 20.
Gotta say though... Roy is doing OK when he gets a bit of service - he just doesn't get a lot of it :-(
Austin is a bit of a revelation though. Defence still looking a lot more settled with Posco and Rosie in it too and Izzo is improving significantly each game right now.

My favourite bit was the part where we didn't lose. Decent crowd for shit weather too.

Heff didn't get much either.

I thought we were awful today. Passing was off and as for their goal?

Storm just let Wee Mac open. Posco at RB and that go doesn't get scored. Actually even Pedj to be fair.

We played much better last week.

Monty was absolutely immense.

Storm is a liability defensively. Maybe when Harry returns, switch posco to RB or maybe try Harry there.
Our execution is poor but we were the better side tonight.
Monty was awesome.
Austin was impressive.
McGing and Posco were excellent.
Rose has to remain starting LB.
Lovely finish by the Paddy.

We didn't play as well as last week but we still look better with Josh Rose playing.

O'Donovan is our top scorer (none from penalties) and that's without getting proper service. Given half a chance he's not too bad.
Today everybody had shots and a few whipped in crosses at head height or above. I'd like to see a few balls played to his feet.

Look at the match stats:

We were clearly the better team and should have won comfortably.
We need to shoot sooner, before the opposition gets everyone back, and get more shots on target.

Not the our best game by far although I thought we did dominate them for long periods.
However, we were very basic in attack.
With the speed of Austin down the left the goals should have been flowing but alas the final pass was always poor, as was our finishing.
It was also disappointing to see so many corners wasted due to our inability to compete in the air (Roy`s goals aside ) we were clueless in attack.
Even Heff when he came on contributed zero.
On the plus side Monty was just awesome. He chased everything, tackled ferociously & took on the role of the 10 when Caceres went missing. Easily man of the match.
Izzo also impressed with some fine saves but needs to work on the distribution side of his game.
The booing of Weemac was a bit disappointing too.

Despite "dominating" the majority of the game, we really never looked like scoring other than the mad scramble in the box towards the end of the match. Durante & Sigmund had us covered any time we were close to the box.

We were lucky Merrick missed the chapter in Coaching 101 - never substitute prior to a defensive corner.

This time I'll let storm off. It was Rosey's poor turnover and they burnt us on the break straight away. Storm was pushing forward and couldn't recover, although defenders do like running past and not cutting off the player and the ball.

Great header from Roy, was so surprised when saw it was him who scored.

Still attacking like horny teenagers around a pretty girl. Keen as mustard, trying hard but poor finishing.

Think we missed Fitzy today. If Austin could learn to cut inside and use his right foot he'd be a huge weapon.

Not great seeing Ferriera breakdown again. He is dead set that cool car you buy to impress and when it's running its sweat but seems it's in the workshop all the time.

Back four. Done fill in the team sheet already for every week

Yes Monty was every where and is really trying to make things happen as well as covering for others MOM.
Please can someone tell Ferriera to pass the ball his delay is allowing the defense to scramble back.

And with Dibo we didn't lose

I get the feeling with at least one more strong back we can start to do some harm..

I hope we can hold this side together and full marks to MC ... I think he knows deep down this is a very young side with a new coach ... by saying we can loose he has taken the pressure off both the playing and coaching staff to develop ... Wilko in this side OMG I can dream..

Monty what can you say words fail he has a heart as big as whatever you care to name..

On the goal ... it was poor defending ..HOWEVER if was a lovely taken goal it was a shit ball high and spinning weeMac took it and with his first touch turned the ball inside and our defence as well and his shot was inch perfect ... The weight direction speed and placement of that first touch was pure class.

I thought we could have changed tactically when Fabio went off (he wasnt adding much tbf).

Bringing Bingham onto the right wing was odd as he isnt/hasnt/wont ever be a wide player and we started to look very unbalanced.

Would a 442 diamond have worked better?

I have to say, I think that was the worst we have played so far in the league this season. Having said that, we settled in defence and still showed the intent. My biggest gripe is the last 15 minutes, we had the Nux on the ropes up till we scored, then we looked as if we were scared to lose the point and started to sit back more. This saw the Nux have more time and chances in that last 15 than they had in the rest of the 2nd half. I know alot of people dont rate him but I think we missed Fitzy yesterday, L. Rose was invisible for the time he was on and we also struggled out wide after Ferriera and Austin were replaced. things are starting to come together and next week will be a BIG test (hopefully a full team out on the park).

From a couple of comments I picked up elsewhere, and also from my own observations, it really appeared that Ernie was trying to protect his lead, rather than looking for the sealer. With a choked front 3rd, it was always going to be tough for our guys to get a good shot in. Saying it wasn't our best game I don't think gives our guys enough credit either. I can't remember the numbers, but we dominated in just about every area, except shooting accurately :). I haven't seen us so dominant in any other game so far this trip. Is that because Phoenix parked the bus? I don't know but I'm sure they didn't park it in the first half, and we dominated then too.
I was delighted in the effort put in and also the result. When we get better at taking our chances, we're going to really spank someone, and soon.

I entirely agree with the gist of this... I mean, part of it is probably my inability to pay attention ;), but I only realised that Rose-the-younger was on when they ran on for the second half...
I think you're right about Fitzy, for all of everything - he never says die and I think that attitude was something we were missing a bit yesterday. Also, I actually disagree with about Ferreira's replacement. Oddly enough, I though we looked a lot more likely once Josh B came on for him than we had up until then - I'm thinking it's probably because he tried to get the ball to where it was useful, much faster.
Austin is obvious though ;) But can't blame the man, he ran himself ragged. as is his vaunt. I suspect that part of our new-found initiative comes down to the work-rate of him, Fitzy and Monty... Roy too seems quite happy to keep at it, whether he's rated or not :)
