Entertaining? Yes. But tonight really hurt :(

Denied the most blatant penalty (and red) in the history of the A-League, followed by Fitzy's brain fart. Simon scoring the winning goals just rubbed salt in the wounds.

Once we went a man down I figured a loss was pretty much inevitable. But full credit to the lads - the fact that it took the Smurfs until the final 10 minutes to score again (with a former Mariner no less) says a lot to me about how we're coming along. Give it a few more rounds and we'll be there.

Oh... and f*ck Arnie

You got that right Gus!!!

Actually - I thought or defenders were significantly improved tonight... Posco having to come off really hurt us though - i think.
On a whole though, what a f***in g ridiculous game... Reffing was worse than that Newcastle game in the championship season... The one where Rosies shirt almost got ripped off him and he then was called offside in our half...
Tonight there were so many calls that left everyone completely baffled. So many calls had everybody in my bay left looking at each other trying to work or exactly what the ref might have thought he saw.
I'm still not sure how Ferreira had that free go against him. Caceres at one point was manhandled by no less than three SFC players and somehow ended with a free to them! ?

eBrandon O'Neill got a yellow card in 21st minute. In about the 32nd minute he scythed the back of Fabio and should have got a second yellow. Instead from the ensuing attack Smeltz scored. We scored soon after and then came the horrendous no penalty call and Fitzy's two yellows. That 10 minutes cost us the game. We could have been 2-0 up and Sydney down to 9 men. Instead we ended up 1-1 at the break and us at 10 men.

That said - I saw enough to day to be quite optimistic for the rest of the season. Sydney are at the top of the league and until the referee played a huge part in the game I believe we were shading it. Rosey at LB and Posco back in - together with Liam Rose helping Monty as a screener changed our solidity immensely.

On another note how was there only 10,030 there tonight - we were a lot more than 50% full.

Sydney are shite full stop. I watched the game in Melbourne with no volume and seriously if you told me it was 10v11 I would have asked which Sydney player got sent off. For all his "tactical genius" Sydney were rubbish and battled to even retain possession against 10 men.

For what it's worth, that one didn't look any better on TV. I was left wondering if the referee subscribed to the 'it's a free kick if you play the ball from the ground' notion!!!

I liked how Walmsley changed our formation after Arnie shot his mouth off in the press as to how we needed to be approached. Totally different play to what we have been showing. I am liking him more every week.

Ref will be back to officiating in under 16s next week. Clearest penalty I have ever seen not given, as well as many weird calls both ways.

Worried about Micky Neil, definitely needs some time back in the youth to get his mojo back.

Loved the determination of Posco to stay on even though he was **cked.

Hated losing to the Smurfs, but despite all these losses I am feeling wonderfully optimistic and think we are in for a great season.

We are going to belt someone really severely before too long and then go on a massive streak of wins.

At first I was feeling a bit concerned that he tightened up the defence due to the pundits complaining that we're not defensive enough (and who knows what gets discussed at the club behind closed doors). But that's probably being a touch catastrophic. Then I figured it just might still be tinkering with what works with the players we have. Never thought of adapting it purely to SFC.

And yeah, if we have a big win - especially against a big team - it's going to be huge.

3-1 flatters the smurfs. It was an even game. They probably deserved to win just from creating more chances (refereeing aside), but it was a close contest. They're leading, and they played against a young, fairly inexperienced side with a still-new-to-the-club coach and a brand new, completely different playing style. I kind of feel like Sydney should be more worried about that game than we should be!

I'm still happy with Izzo - and he did some great things in distribution, but other times he needs to slow down. Throwing the ball out when he's still in a crowd can be risky.
Takes a few risks coming out and over time he'll learn to judge those better, but I love the fact that he's now got the confidence to back himself on these. I couldn't really blame him for the goals. An unmarked Simon is a dangerous thing -and if you look at Simon's first one, it only went in because of the deflection, Izzo was on the money otherwise.

Our defence has massively improved. Our finishing and final option hasn't. Personally I thought our attack was a bit weaker this game (even before we lost an attacker)

Need to watch a replay before I gob on but I thought we looked a much smarter side tonight and without a blatant cheat for a ref would have won or at worse got a draw.
Sydney are shit but big credit to Matty for his lovely (completely unmarked) goals.

What is it with Sydney and the ref's rate this match with "the wind's" performance when Kossie's hackers kicked the shit out of us...

I think they're very average, and if it wasn't for the refs utterly useless display we would have run away with it. Even at 10 men they were outplayed for decent spells and you could see it by how frustrated Arnie was.

I really felt for a while in the 2nd half we might have been able to pinch it. Then being a man down finally caught up with our legs. Not impressed with Sydney at all.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
i'm amazed there has been no #IzzoOut or #WalmsleyOut yet....Im with Magpie I though we could of knicked or at least drew, until the ref given advantage caught up with us...poor Fitzy, first yellow was bullshit, second was almost fair enough, although the smurfs were going down like Brazillian superstars....good to Rose The Elder back, he had a cracker...Fabio got a blue fence built around him and Posco did pretty damn good...Royo the Boyo needs to concentrate a tad more perhaps, he could of had a couple if he had quickly raced the process through his cortex.....how about that first half (or both) by the moron with the whistle ( and the liney on the club side)...and the SFC goalie doing the take down was a red card forever...
mind you with all the chances the smurfs got, it took an ex mariner to get it for 'em....the booing of said ex mariner was a bit mean i though....I hope that ref gets a bollocking from the ref bosses...cause it has to be said that he dont deserve the job

Smurfs near the top of the comp by sheer arse

It was an even contest until the ref had a brain explosion during the game after that Arnie had the smarts to open us up .I new when Simon was on he was going to score and I hate to admit , I had mixed emotions when he did .I pose the question though Simon over Heffernen .He almost looks like a clone .And I'm still not convinced on Donavan.

I mainly am upset for our lads who I thought were sensational last night. McGing looks like the next Sainsbury, real composed. Horrible ref decisions aside we played around an hr with a man down AND still maintained a decent intensity. I think it was a matter of time before we lost some legs and conceded.

Agree with those who thought we still could have nicked it but the legs lost it. Position unchanged on Simon, credit to him for two decent finishes though with his fresh legs and our boys cooked that is exactly what you want from an attacking sub. Still would not have given him the pay rise he wanted to stay at the club. He had 9 seasons with us and scored some key goals though was a no point prolific, particularly recently. Happy to give someone else a chance.

Full marks to Posco as well, he doesn't get injured, think we may have held them out. Glad to see so much improvement already this season and it is only four rounds in, if this was Moss we would still be in pre-season mode. Looking forward to beating the bling come finals time.
