this wont be a porter bashing post!! but he again showed why we signed him for another 2 years!?!?! the youth showed some balls, and absolutely no leadership given to them from the "captains", id like to have seen lewis stay on with the rest of his NYL crew.

they showed a lot of promise, therefore i dont see next years finals in our scope but at least we may show some good game. on simon, he cant do much when their just launching air raids all the time, when the young'ns played it at the feet, he found some rythym, go figure?

im kind of glad the nix won, as it gave them a home final, me htinks. and therefore a good chance of going all the way! and in the ACL, put that in your double standard pipe and smoke it Bin HAMMAM!

Wilko's smiling really irritated me, the performance was terrible and he should have been livid with it. Wilko seems like a great guy and all but I do think someone like Hutch or Doig (anyone with that bit of mongrel) needs to be captain next year. Someone to keep the heads up and hold the team to account.

:postcount:

Spot on. A captain who is not angry at performances like that is not a captain.

I'm no expert defender, but I also don't like the way Wilko stands so far off opposition players. Too many times he allows them a shooting angle.

While neither goals were his fault, watch the two goals that have sunk us in our Grand finals and see what I mean. There are many other examples.

Sick emo person that I am, I watched both grand finals again the other night so that I could be totally depressed. It worked - my wife had me on suicide watch.

Am I being too critical of Wilko?

In a word ...NO

TBH, I was surprised when he was named Captain again this season. Not a lot of choice out there though, ... Hutcho might have been a useful captain. When times get tough, the tough need to get going. Saw none of that this season. Disappointing.

The result was eminently predictable; a rampant Wellington have dispatched quite a few teams at the Cake Tin the season so an under strength Mariners were always likely to be over run. But there was much to enjoy from the performance of the young players, a very promising look into the future. These kids want to play football, real football. They are confident on the ball and the ball is almost always played on the deck. They moved and passed with intricate precision at times and were delightful to watch. This was easily the best I have seen of Panni Nikas; although clearly Wellington dominated possession, he was always in the game, seeking the ball and passing quickly and effectively. It was interesting to contrast the possession play of these kids with the poor passing of the senior players like Clark, Huke and Crowell. I was worried that with Lawrie moving to a broader sphere of influence at the club that the CoE would not be producing quality players but I am glad to say I think I will be proven wrong.
As for the game: for the first time this season Vukovic was unconvincing; Boogard and Wilkinson battled hard but still made errors. Porter was ineffective; he is so much more productive wide on the right. Crowell and Huke were willing; Clark was, well, Clarky. Simon was a little unlucky, he fought hard throughout. I enjoyed Nikas, Smith isnt a wide player but he is skilled and gets involved, Lewis needs another yard of pace and Bernie looked quick and bouncy. It was a sad end to a sad season but the future looks bright. (and was 4-5-1 a hint of what to expect from Pim Verbbeek graduate Graham Arnold?)

hopefully not with Mcbreen coming to join up with simon, that sounds the most promising for next year( mainly cos i cant see those youngns getting still much of a run, i owuld love to be proven wrong)

Bernie Ibini-Isei, our Nigerian born Aussie, looked interesting. Some nice confident touches, tall and strong, moved nicely. Not enough time to fully judge, but I saw enough to think were onto something here.

Yep, liked the look of him too ... and he's not bad at football, either  ;)

Emmmm.

I tipped Shaggers and put the joker on it.....and I nearly always back us on Fantasy tipping!

We were never going to win this with our squad.

Just confirms the LM decision was right and half the squad need to go 2.

Huke and Crowell were far from convincing.  WeeMac and Travis are the imports we should be looking at retaining.

yes but cite match against GCU zycie, they on the rare occasion they played together,
ran rings, add lewis and ibni on the wings, and i dare say we could have the best midfield in the league, I can only dream

Had potential, but lacked maturity and sorely needs to become a 90 minute player.

On another note raised... and its raised by fans across the league whenever they have to endure a home game for Welly.

The commentary makes me want to cut my head off, jump through the screen and beat them to death with it. The level of bias is just absurd... so much so its not even bias... it really like there is only one team playing.

I find it extremely unprofessional.

You should try streaming 6PR when Glory have a home game.  They both make CoastFM sound like Martin Tyler.
