THANK YOU: A letter by John Hutchinson
Central Coast Mariners' skipper, John Hutchinson has taken the time to thank the people who have contributed to his illustrious 10 year career. The following letter is written by Hutch.
So the curtain comes down on my career. This will be the last time I walk out onto Central Coast stadium as a player, captain, teammate and a brother to all my friends in the famous yellow shirt. The heartache or the happiness, the anger, the joy of playing for the Mariners will be what I will treasure for a long time. Memories, famous wins, bad losses, amazing comebacks – if you can talk about it the Mariners have been involved in it. But what I will miss most of all are the friendships, the boys and the change room (and arguing with refs a bit).
Now, as for the people involved with the club, the people who work so hard behind the scenes that the supporters don’t see. From the office staff, to the volunteers, you have all been wonderful to me, it’s the small things you do that make our jobs so much easier. From Pat ‘The Door Man’ giving me a cheeky little treat as I walk into the change room or Sharon sneaking me a few extra tickets for the team. Everyone involved should give your self a massive pat on the back and from the bottom of my heart my love for you will never stop.
To the fans, the haters, the followers and the ones that care and support me. Without haters I cannot drive harder for success. Without the care and support to pick me up on bad days I could have never bounced back. You all play your part. I have met some great people who care for me as a footballer and as a person. Our friendships will last long after my career has ended and the part I love the most about being a footballer for the Mariners is the smiling faces of all the kids. The high fives, the hugs, the talkers, non-talkers and the kids who told me they love me. That’s what football is all about. Once it's all done I want you all to know that your support will live with me forever. I know I will see you all at future games and I can't wait to celebrate another win at the stadium as either a coach/supporter and hear the cannon go off.
I also want to say thank you to the coaches and owners I have had over the 10 seasons. You all played your part in growing me as a footballer and as a person. Your time and dedication will not be forgotten. You know what you all mean to me so I am not going to go on and on but you all know what part you played.
My family, the Hutchinsons and Macedos. Thanks for your love and support over the last 10 years. Kate, Kai and Mahli, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. The love, support, care, the pick me up talk and even the talk when you think you’re the coach has been amazing. Support makes me strong and gives me the drive to do the best for my family.
Season 10 hasn't been one to remember for the Mariners and it's not what I really wanted as my last season but I know my team mates gave it their all. It's been a very tough season, maybe the hardest out of the 10 but I believe it is onwards and upwards for this club. The yellow and navy will always have its challenges but with the help of you, the fans, we can all move forward together. I believe that with people like Monty and Rocket, this club will excel.
They will drive the culture and the standards of this great club. The likes of Liam Rose, Anthony Kalik, Michael Neill, Tom Slater and co. will become household names on the coast and will strive to drive us back where we belong. Believe, stay strong and always love and support the famous yellow strip of the Central Coast Mariners.
Thank you everyone and love you all.
John Hutchinson.
