ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

R25: Glory vs Mariners

Seems the head office had given up on the season prior to this game.

Despite losing two high profile players, there was not even a whispered rumour of bringing in a replacement.

Sigh. All rather familiar wasn't it?

Surely they will have a go next week in F3 Derby. I'm dreading it, but will be there as usual.

I'm just baffled how the team has gone from knocking in goals by the bagful against the Tards, Fury and Cry baby Coast United, and letting very few, to being the basket-case of the A-League.

Some of the Foxtel comments about us were painful to hear, but sadly true. When you're in a big rut, it is very hard to climb out of it, it seems.

Lawrie sounded like 'dead man walking'.

On another note, Massively looking forward to Yoof ;D

If it wasn't scum, I'd say they should stack the yoof side by dropping Danny, Wilko and Mrdja down... and give several youngsters a HAL debut ;D

Even if it wasn't the scum, I'd leave the yoof alone, apart from sending Mallia back. They're on top of the ladder, look like being Premiers and could very easily go all the way in the finals. We don't want to muck around with the team in this situation.

Your idea is right about giving some of them some HAL experience, but not when they have the chance to cover themselves with glory.

But I think I'll threaten not to renew first   :p

One things for sure.......it'll only be us sad bastards that sign up next season.

Spot on unfortunately. I'll renew, but my financee, parents and several mates have no intention of renewing. 500 members tops next year unless something major happens in the off season.

2 of my mate wont be renewing. I was about to try and talk them out of it but quickly realised that it is fair enough on their behalf. If I didn't have reserved seats in bay 6 I would also refuse to renew. They still intend to go to matches, but they feel that this is their only form of protest  against a highly inept squad and coaching management who are very afraid of change. I tried to bring out my pre season excuses about inability to recruit due finances directed to the COE but they quickly pointed out that Lawrie has recruited and not for the best.

Wilko post match interview summed it up for me. He actually has the audacity to claim that the team was unlucky. There has been nothing unlucky over the past 10 weeks. Results have been fair. I dream of the day of going to bluetongue and watching the team dominate others for a full 90mins instead playing a game based on hoping for a lucky break.

My thoughts for what they are worth, I feel like I have been watching a close relative battle with cancer and am finally taking comfort in the fact that they have passed on for there peace and mine. Making the 6th spot with the way we are "playing" at the moment would have been terrible!

Agreed. This has been painful. Almost a sense of relief it is over. And yes, of course, we will be renewing our membership (on condition we don't play in Canberra)

I would say at least ten players won't be with us next year so the new coach (and there had better be one) will have lots of opportunity to turn this around.
Gone - Boogard, Heff, Redmayne, Dappuzzo
Must go - Clark, McAllister, Elrich
probably will go - Travis, McGlinchey, Huke
and controversially I think Doig should go too - not because he can't play but simply because he doesn't play. Long spells out with soft tissue injuries means we aren't getting a fair deal out of this. Suggest terminate by mutual consent.

In so far - McBreen and Amini. Probably Nikas. Hope to see Sherlock and Smith.

yes would be cruel to take them out of the yoof mix at this stage

We wont be renewing our membership, been there since day one. Will just pick games to go too, depending on how they perform.

Guys its your friendly friend here from the Goldie.
It worries me about the talk here of not jumping on board next season. I know its been a fairly frustrating time for your lads but I hope you all stick together and fire up next year (and the last 2 games).
Fairweather fans are just the worst....get on board people and stick with em thru thick and thin !

Good luck boys n girls.

I can understand people's frustrations about what has been served up to us this season - for a while we were the smokeys for end-of-season glory, then we fell apart. I would (in a way) have preferred us to be shit right from the start. Still, I'm thankful for what highlights there were.

I can also understand some people's decisions not to renew their season ticket next year. That's not an option for me, I will be back next season just like before. I have decided to follow the Mariners, make them my football team for the rest of my life (however long that will be). That's the way I am - I accept that others may think differently and I'm certainly not telling them they should adopt my attitude, but that's the way it is for me. I have followed another team in another code for the past 50 years for just one flag in that time, but I won't be dumping them either. I'm a Mariner/Magpie until I die.

Why do I take this stand? Well, I always believe that next season will be our year. And one season I'm gonna be right! And I'm gonna be right there to enjoy it!

No worries Spike; last time we missed the play-offs we bounced back to win the Premiership the following season and made the Grand Final. We'll be back next year. :eek:verhead:

From the official site. Well said Hutch.

"Its devastating. Disappointing doesnt sum it up," said Mariners midfielder John Hutchinson.

"We worked so hard through the season and pre-season and now we reflect on it and know weve got two or three months of training but two games left and the seasons over for us, so we have to keep going to training and look forward to next season.

"Its tough but I dont think we deserve to be there (in the finals) after the last ten weeks and the players have to stand up and take responsibility for what has happened in the last ten weeks.

"We started off so well and I think at one stage we were second or third on the ladder, and now to be fighting it out for the wooden spoon is horrible really.

"The squad of 20 or 21 players need to raise our hands and say it was our fault," said Hutchinson.
