If they play like they did against the Scum we can beat them. We still need to sort out the fullbacks positioning but if they do their jobs defensively we can win.

No Monty is gonna hurt but a chance for Berry to step up and Mcging to show he is made of the right stuff moving forward beyond Monty.

Oh and another Sunday 5pm game, yay....

Either Berry or Ascroft. Ascroft offers a little more physicality and is more useful at set peices. Also obviously better defensively.
Berry is better on the ball and more natural in that possie.
I'd go Harry but i expect Paul to pick Berry.

Without Monty I fear we'll lose a lot in the middle, especially against a team of Victory's standard. Can't see it becoming four.

But boy do I hope I'm proven wrong.

Yeah but it's their wingers ripping our fullbacks apart that I'm even more worried about. That was our biggest issue with them last time imo. Aside form a few very poor personal performances. Hope Pain shows them what he's worth this time. He choked last time and was sad to see. Think he's much better than that.

Monty is always a huge loss, but Berry still brings good endeavour. At least now with McGing and Fab our midfield has been much less of a one man show. So I'm not as pessimistic. Again, its our full backs and MV getting in behind and delivering quality ball that most concerns me.

Massive test for the boys at the back with berisha to handle.
Rojas has been more dangerous than Bes this year, he is all class and could have a field day with our backs. Interesting to see if we go with a similar game plan to last week and try to keep them scoreless until half time and then start attacking in the second half. Wouldn't hurt to park the bus at the beginning of the game as we seem to build confidence as the game progresses and we are still in it not chasing.

Our fullbacks (as with everyone's fullbacks in the 21st century) have two roles - offensive and defensive. They can't neglect their defensive roles and in transition need to either get back to their spots in the structure *or* be effectively covered (so if the fullbacks are caught high, there should be shuffling to make sure the defensive jobs are still done).

But they also need to be offensive, because it's very difficult to create chances without having extra bodies coming from deep to overload certain points of the defence, and (related) to ensure that the opposing wingers have defensive jobs to do, rather than getting to hang out high up the park waiting for chances to hit us.

I read some of the posts in this thread and it's like echoes of the 'coaching' of my childhood - mums and dads screaming from the sideline that they want the fullbacks to stop advancing at half way or else they're 'out of position'.

Berry for me and either Whyte from youth team or powell on bench.

With Ashcroft already on the bench he can cover a tired midfield or injury at the back or can go into CB and push Rose up if an injury or tiredness happens

So id have Berry in

And a bench of Ashcroft, Powell, Bingham, Appiah and Ivan

Agree on the fullbacks roles. But that's not my thoughts at all.

Rather just that I think kalifallah and Rojas are very good at murdering fullbacks and this hurt us far more last time than Berisha.

Victory sure have the players to hurt us so, as pointed out above re "parking the bus", it`s probably not a bad idea to play 5 at the back. That way we can get our defenders to their wingers with a second defender to back-up & also have cover in the centre.
With Berry, McGing & Fab in the midfield quick transitions from middle to front third are possible.
It`ll be taxing on Roux & Galloway but they have played well over the last 3 weeks & should be up for a scrap.
No predictions but I hope they do us all proud.

As far as I'm concerned Victory are 2nd on the ladder for a reason. We need to play well and take our chances. If that means points that's a bonus. I'm going in with no expectations - but with plenty of hope!!

We used to play with very attacking fullbacks under Arnie (Rose and Pedj) but like you said when they were pushing forward they were covered defensively.
The problem for us is Roux forgets his defensive duties at times and Galloway also loses his man sometimes.
They are good players and have benefited from Posco's return. They are still learning the game but are on the improve.

ok here we go .play micky neil in montys position
this is his position . neil will be playing for his future and could have a blinder as he has before .
that way we don't play anyone else of out position . it could work

Fraught with danger but it could work. I don't think Paul will risk it.

Hi guys - As you could guess by the username I'm a Melb fan.
Coming up for the game this weekend and after some local knowledge. Where's good for a drink + pre game feed? Last year we didn't take into account that most bistro's shut after 2.30:doh:
