I just got home from the game. How good does it feel to win again?!?

The boys did really well considering it was basically an away game. The crowd was tiny and there was no atmosphere at all. The heat was really sapping any energy the players had. I take my hat off to them. I couldn't do it.

We had less posesion today but created just as many opportunities as Adelaide. The main difference was the keepers. Izzo is a boss. I was actually feeling quite relaxed during the game because i knew Izzo had it all under control.

Man I love Mcging as a CM. he is so composed and always picked the right options.

Fabio wasn't as good as last week. He held onto the ball to long again where simple passes would have opened them up. Hoping he watches the reply to see what could have been.

The rest of the team worked tirelessly in the heat. It looked like we were affected by the heat more than Adelaide.

Overall happy with what it saw but also happy not to see Canberra again.

5029 was the attendance but that's including the W-League game afterwards and watching that game last night there were many more there.

Hopefully when they quote the average crowd figures for the year they will have two sets of figures.

Back to the game. We didn't play very well but always looked capable of scoring.

Izzo was great again and 3pt MOM.
Rose and Posco look like a solid paring. Posco 2pts.
McGing worked hard but it was Monty who was most effective. 1pt.
Fab is a much better option than Powell and he took his goal superbly.
Appliah did very well with his goal and will be hungry for more.
Let's keep this going against the Drive bys.

I thought the main difference between this and the perth game was the pressing and harassing was less - totally down to the heat imo

appears it's all finally coming together!

I'm loving the wins and loving watching the boys play - mostly - tbh... But I also have to say - the last two wins have been against teams that have been struggling... The first one just struggle against us this season, this one just struggling in general... I'm excited to see us go back-to-back, but withholding further enthusiasm till I see how the boys perform against WSW next weekend... If they can make it three in a row things'll get into the spiciness frame for the Derby game... Could put us in a position where the winning team leapfrogs the Jets into the top-6 ;)

Sadly I'm not yet entirely confident though... GO BOYS and let's hope we get up!

I agree Gra, haven't really weighed in because it was hard to tell what was related to the conditions.

I thought we gave the ball away too easily and for a possession based side we were poor and need to do much better - but defensively we are holding shape and our line a lot better and in attack we are far more dangerous now with Fab at ten. Been hard watching us have zero penetration down the centre for so long... a good 3+ years for mine.

Izzo was brilliant. Again. Proud to say I called for more time on him when everyone wanted blood - however I called for more time for TW when everyone wanted his blood... so I might just tuck my bugle quietly away.

Some players really looked like the heat hurt them more than others - Pain and Roy did not seem themselves. Fab ignored it and busted a gut and then you could see he was done and Paolo pulled him straight away - very good sub. Trent was causing absolute mayhem but it cost him in the heat and he faded leading to Kubis injection of pace and energy which was critical in us getting the three points. Another perfect sub.

Kubi played like a player who desperately wants a career and refuses to give up. Very likeable. Fantastic run, great ball, and then a terrific finish. Made it look easy. But it wasn't.

Without Izzo we could have copped a couple more. But we also coulda/shoulda scored a few more - so thought we were definitely worthy of our 3 points.

Back to back wins. Nothing signifies we're on the right track more than that.

Spoon evasion is looking likely. Tick.

We're not world beaters yet, but no reason we can't pick up enough points now to sneak into the six - I think we have enough form and quality - we just have to continue improving. And I think with Fab centrally and what is looking like the best CB pairing we've had in 3 years, Trent growing, izzo immense, McGings very positive move to DM and having Kubi, Bingham and Powell on the bench... there's a chance we could

great effort, glad they won for you
Also you won't believe it but it was hotter here and more humid. Would have had to delay if played here on the coast.

McGing appeared to constantly kick it up field to no one in the 2nd half but Monty and Fab had tired so his options were limited but that was not the way Paulo wants to play.
AU put a lot of pressure on our backs and they stuffed around with it to many times and got caught a couple of times.
We lucky AU have no strikers but they still got through to force the Izzo saves a few times.

How funny was Fab lying on the ground and they threw the towels over his nuts.

Now winning with little things going our way except for that offside call.

Still we only play well for one half. 2nd half last week with a decent 1st half and good 1sr half with poor 2nd even though we scored 1 and should have scored at least 1 more.
So there is plenty of room for improvement.
Connar been ordinary for a few weeks now. Needs to step up

Connor has been heavily marked each week and has faced two socceroo right backs in succession. While he has been down I don't think we can blame him too much as his position has been great and constantly draws players to bring Fabio/Trent/Roy in to play.

I thought t it was a really good defensive effort until 20 minutes to go. The boys really tired but it was very oppressive there just sitting in the shade. Playing Fabio centrally has given us more options - we just need to teach him how to pass. - 2 or 3 times he just took the ball too far when a goal was the likely outcome. But hey - making opportunities through the middle is an improvement and something to build on.

Central Coast Mariners boss Shaun Mielekamp admits uncertain future for A-League in Canberra

Central Coast Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp says it is up to the ACT government to decide if the A-League will have a future presence in Canberra.

It is understood the Mariners are playing in Canberra at a loss and would need to be aided by significant government funding if a long-term partnership was to be struck.

But the viability of a future A-League presence in Canberra has been questioned after another small crowd turned out for Central Coast's clash with Adelaide on Sunday.

A financial injection from the ACT government helped the Mariners bring their November clash with Wellington to Canberra but the club took on the risks of bringing a second game to the capital.

Mielekamp says the Mariners are still open to working with the ACT government, Capital Football and Football Federation Australia to maximise the growth of football in the region.

The Mariners boss says discussions are already underway to see what role the club could play in Canberra, but Capital Football chief executive Phil Brown declined to comment on the negotiations.

The gamble of bringing two games to Canberra hasn't paid off for the Mariners with the two fixtures drawing in a total of 10,569 fans.

Even so, that figure is warped with the 5072 recorded at Sunday night's double header representing the turnout across the whole double header.

It is likely that at no stage would that many have been present at once, with some fans filing out after the A-League clash and new fans rolling in before the W-League semi-final.

"Whilst the future is unknown, at this stage the conversation is happening which can only be positive," Mielekamp said.

"We definitely feel that there is role to play here in connection with Capital Football. We're passionate to see if we can help out with the pathways that come out of Canberra."

Both Mariners crowds were smaller than the 5581 recorded for Canberra Olympic's FFA Cup semi-final against Sydney FC at Viking Park in October.

Central Coast's crowds were dwarfed by those of the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL crowds at Manuka Oval, which all past the 10,000 mark last season.

The Giants' first fixture at Manuka Oval, a pre-season match in 2011, drew a crowd of 5991.

But unlike the Giants, the Mariners are without a long-term deal to play in the capital and believe that has an impact on crowd figures, because Canberra fans don't recognise a genuine commitment from the club.

Mielekamp admits "there's a lot of work to be done" if the Mariners are to double their crowd figures in Canberra.

"[Crowd figures have] grown from the last time we were here," Mielekamp said.

"On one aspect you can look at it and go 'That's a real positive'. But of course you always want it to be above the A-League average [13,110].

"There was great positive energy in the crowd, which was really important. That was one thing we were looking for from this game compared to the last, was a lot of support and energy in the crowd and we got that."

Top marks to Shaun for trying to spin such a balls up but he kinda missed an important point.

AFL is huge in Canberra so anyone would draw a crowd - football is not nearly a big and unless it was their side, no one cares

Canberra is a complete failure for CCM - Yet again we lose home crowd momentum coming off a win.

Also the AFL's figures for GWS were total bullshit. They probably got a few in this season as the Giants made the finals but prior to that the ground was empty and the AFL are not shy with free tickets.
