ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

R17: Nix versus CCM

Our defence has improved over the last couple of weeks, while Izzo was out.

Is it an improved Izzo or much stronger defence not exposing him to strikers with time and space to do what they want.

Their goal was more typical of the goals he has conceded, apart from free kicks

We are now waiting till after half time before being aggressive.

We were out on our feet with 20minutes left when we pressed from the start and ridiculously open.

Now we just try to stay in the game till half time then attack and especially with Garcia

Rule Number 1: play to the whistle. Only opinion that matters is the ref's. Everyone else's is just a debate.

The kiwi defender slowed down and put his hand up. Not because he was impeded by Fab but because he was trying to tell the referee what to do.

But still think we were a little lucky.
When I was a young bloke playing hockey, one of my coaches used to drum into us "play on until you hear the whistle...the second time." :)

Yeah... This is exactly what Zac used to do... only he'd be doing it right in front of goal too...

I think we got a bit of luck but I also think that was a bit overdue so no regrets ;-)

It was good to see Stormy get on the scoreboard.
When "the hat" left & Stormy got regular game time, his attacking runs to the by-line were great to watch & set up quite a few goals.
Over the past season though, those runs have been less frequent, so i`m hoping he`ll get a bit more confidence in getting forward & driving into the box.
It just adds another dimension to our attack, especially when Fab & Austin have been shut down.

I'm almost certain this rule changed prior to this season - where an offside player influencing defenders certainly does come into it, whether they touched it or not. Fabio's run certainly affected the vision of the defenders in question. They were close enough to pursue Austin if Fabio wasn't impeding them.

As others have said though, we were due luck on a 50/50 as it were.

IFAB have loosed it up, but there still needs to be some impact upon an opponent. For the most part, this is to cover scenarios where an offside attacker is waiting near goal and the ball passes close by but his presence means the keeper has to wait to see what he's going to do with it. It removes the unreasonable expectation that the keeper isn't supposed to even consider what the attacker in the offside position can do. Also covers scenarios where the defender is being blocked or pressured.

Given the defenders were nowhere near the ball, thus they suffered no impact (fairly certain 'stopping to put your hand up for offside' doesn't count as 'impacted upon'), I still strongly argue that even under the new interpretations, it's not offside.

Now, if only FIFA could figure out if a defensive deflection cancels offside or not.... ;-)

Realistically we were still lucky....because there's been so many cases of AR's incorrectly flagging when the attacker has had nothing to do with play (very amateur mistakes) that it isn't funny....It's sad when being lucky is what we call it when the ref got the decision correct!!!

The other thing worth noting, IMO, was the fact we scored 3 second half goals. When was the last time we managed that?

There we go. Over 12 months. We haven't been strong in 2nd halves for a while by my recollection.
