Ok.
We were still pretty ordinary but we battled hard and tried to defend properly. We only played Football once Luis came on and that is because he gives the kids some guidance and belief.....that and his quality that shines like a beacon.

Izzo 7.5. Distribution not great and doesn't own the box but made some very very good saves tonight. His best game of the season.
Roux 7. Much much better. Actually did his job as a defender for a change. Lovely goal.....that is what happens when you back yourself.
Posco 6.5. I really like this guy. He is very calm under pressure.
McGing 7. Probably the best of the back 4 tonight.
Rose 6. Did his job. Solid and dependable if not great.
Austin 6. Some brilliant stuff and some terrible stuff. However he would not be a fun player to mark. He also gives us some bite in midfield. Great finish on our 3rd goal.
Rose Jnr. 7.5. Pretty good game. He is very composed and tonight showed some toughness in the tackle.
Stella 6. Pretty reasonable.
Fab 7. Set up 1st goal. Worked his socks off.
Neill 6. Real mixed bag but he worked very hard for his team.
Bingham 7. Butchered a great chance that Heff would have buried but apart from that worked his arse off and did well when asked to drop into midfield.

Luis 8. Haven't seen quality like him at Gosford for a long time.

mom
3pts. Garcia. Only reason we won.
2pts. Baby Rose.
1pt. Isso.

So we can relive it. Again. And again.

Something special has clearly happened to the Mariners and a new chapter could well be being born.

Lets hope he really enjoys himself and falls in love with the coast enough to stay for another season. Because we'd be crazy not to move hell and earth to re-sign him and the fact you can say that already is just remarkable.

I was somewhere over the Pacific for this one, sounds like I missed quite the second half. Just watched the highlights a few times...sign that boy up for another year asap.

First half we didn't create much but we were composed and steady on defence. Much better than we have been and no silly mistakes. There were a couple of moments of fancy footwork on the ball that impressed me especially from Austin and LRose.

Second half Garcia started (which is what I hoped for but didn't think would actually happen). Instantly we were skilled in attack. He really does lead the youngins so well! Add to that his own sheer brilliance and it's a joy to watch. We seemed to fade later in the game but in reality it was a case of welly having nothing to lose so throwing everything at us and our job with the game in our pocket being to remain composed.

Also Izzo pulled off some great saves and earned some points back in my books but he's a way to go before I'm convinced.

Next week against brissy will be a much harder test but we'll have Monty and Ascroft back (McGing was an excellent replacement though) and likely even more minutes out of Garcia

Middy, everyone knows the song and lyrics were posted two weeks ago.

I've always thought Rose Jr. looked good on the ball, like a slightly punchier version of Caceres. Not quite the same feet, but not far off!

He's not a great runner with the ball but he turns out of trouble (rather than into it) and releases well. He's also more disciplined without the ball. Good player, was *very* impressive last week and served up another good showing yesterday.

I
Rudan and Bosnich were surprisingly insightful and even positive at times in the preview.

Have we walked into an alternate reality?
missed it , what did they say? I've been boycotting pre and post match shows

We are definitely improving as a squad, but there is still a major part of our play that is waaaaay below what we need to see. And that is the lack of composure on the ball when put under pressure, and the huge amount of turnovers.

We certainly now have the weapons up front we need, but we give far, far too much ball to the opposition. If it weren't for some timely desperate tackles, and some impressive work from Izzo, we would not have been celebrating today.

Phoenix showed us up for large parts of the game with their very crisp, accurate passing, despite not capitalizing. Add that to our game and we would be Top 6 material. Hopefully that part of our game will come as the 'kids' get more experience.

A extremely vital 3 points away is just gold though. No need to go to Bunnings for some wood polish just yet!

Not really arguable. He left it to Austin, but clearly influencing play. Should have been called. About time we had a bit of luck from the officials.
Influencing play is actually completely irrelevant to offside.
Needs to be either interfering with play, interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in an offside position. The last one is strictly collecting a rebound from a defender or the goals. Interfering with an opponent is simply preventing an opponent from being able to play for the ball by obstructing their vision or challenging the opponent for the ball. Given no opponent was in challenging distance, that part is irrelevant - and their view may have been blocked but not in a way that affected play, so that's irrelevant. Interfering with play is simply touching or playing the ball (what 'playing' means is ambiguous. The laws use it in another context where it can only mean touching the ball. Could potentially include a dummy, but that didn't happen here).

Thus, no offside. The fact that he ran for the ball and influenced the defenders doesn't come into it.

I agree it is a concern - but probably highlighted yesterday with the absence of a couple of experience players in the spine like Monty and Roy.

Yesterday in the spine we started with Posco, McGing, Rose Jr, Neill, Stella and Bingers. If instead we had Posco, McGing, Rose Jr, Monty, Garcia and Roy I suspect we would hold the ball better. As much as I like McGing a return of Wilko would make a huge impact.

I think once Garcia is starting almogside Monty and i think J Rose too - this will change. Roy back would also help - sigh - he makes great intelligent runs and works his ass off - cant wait to see him and Garcia combine.
