Resplendent in my newly won pink Reddy shirt I bloody loved retro round.

Posco is a proper centre back, need to hoof it? out it goes. McGing to DM and he is a different player but for me, the 2 game changers were a proper target man upfront to receive the ball with his back to goal and no Powell. He was completely anonymous when he came on and I dont see him long term. Bingers gives us someone to aim at and somehow he and Roy need to start together.

Bay was rocking (no band thankfully) and Reddy getting sent off was the icing on the cake. Especially as there didnt look to be any contact or a clear goal scoring opportunity. Wonderful.

From the pre game, Patrick was on fine form, Okon seemed not to like being reminded of being sent off against us in season 2 for the scum and Charlesworth admitted he was entirely to blame for jinxing something that may or may not have happened in Brisbane when we may (or may not) have been 2 up. All in all everyone was in good spirits and it was good to see so many familiar faces.

Fantastic effort.
The back 4 looked SO much better. Posco was outstanding. Roux left his man once and nearly cost us a goal in the second half. Perth butchered a tap in in 1st half when someone left him unmarked.....couldn't see if Rose or Roux from bay 17.
Also really impressed with Galloway tonight.
But that is best they have played all year and only 2 mistakes is pretty good.
Midfield was good. Monty was magnificent. Fab had a super game. McGing had his best game of the year and is far more comfortable further up the park
Izzo was sensational.
Bingers was very good and I'd definitely resign him for next year

Oh might add that it makes an astonishing difference to have a couple of guys with a bit of height playing - McGing & Bingers... we actually won balls in the air!

That was the best game I've seen Fab have for us. A handful of sweet, sweet passes, especially in the first half. If not for Monty giving Reddy a send off, Fab would've been my motm.
Posco... WOW! What a difference a solid CB makes. How many points have we lost this season due to his absence?
As for Monty... I have a serious man-crush on that man tonight. Dead set certainty to be inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame when we get it going. The wave as Reddy was walking off... more than enough for the man to be inducted. I cannot remember too many Mariner moments that were sweeter than that.
MOTM:
Monty 3
Fab 2
Posco 1

I'm so happy, I wont complain about the IQ of the bar staff!

That save near the end from Izzo was absolutely fantastic, Maty Ryan stuff.

I will put my hand up and confess I gave him pelters last year but he has proved me completely wrong. Good for him
I was thinking about that. What a great story though. He's improved out of sight since last year. I was a harsh critic, as were many others.
Must be tough for an athlete facing getting cut like that - good on Okon for trying out different keepers, then obviously saw enough at training to give him another go, and look at him now.
That's a huge success story from Izzo most importantly, but also how Okon handled it, as well as the GK coach. It's outstanding, and to see that improvement from Izzo when his confidence would have been under attack - shows real grit and character too.

That save tonight when he had to run out of the box and do a double save....perfection!!

Loved to see Posco back.

Great to have a proper centre back.

His anticipation is wonderful and it is what gives him so much time.

Monty is a legend.

Nice bit of time wasting from Izzo too. Galloway was just about to get up in the fourth minute of injury time.
Izzo rushed over and pushed his head down, whispering "clean sheet, clean sheet".

That was an awesome game. I know lots have people have been giving Fabio heat for some poor performances but tonight he was awesome.
I think he needed a bit of time to gel as a CAM. He has played right wing most of his career. I think he is starting to show what he can do. I think it can work.

Izzo was great. Posco too. And McGing is the DM is working well too. Very composed and calm on the ball.

Bring on Adelaide next week!!!

I agree that having some tall players that can jump give us that extra dimension up front. We hardly lost any challenges in the air tonight. Very refreshing!

Posco's talk was great as well. Went walkabout once when he shouldn't have. Posco's best game for us. Just needs another legit CB next to him.

Izzo is great at saves but not 20 a game. Only needed to make 2 or 3 today and did.mthe save from Casto was huge, stopped them getting momentum.

Monty was boss, he was getting stuck in 24 smiljick or something like that. He doesn't back down.

Fab was on fire and fed off the crowd who fed of him. 1st couple of minutes he was hustling on defence and caused a turnover. Crowd responded to him defending and he was on right from the start today. When he is on like today he is amatch winner but when he is a sook boy he can be bad.

Bingham gave them a target from goal kicks and was a good physical presence. Deserves more time. Don't need to play Roy 90min every game.

Trent, you have to finish that chance, lucky we bounced straight back.

Little bit of luck finally went our way. The Taggart miss is the type of goal we always give up and the rest of the season the ref doesn't get the Bingham goal right and the Reddy red card. Definitely a defender there not sure how that comes into play with the keeper, as without the keeper would have scored easily so was a goal scoring opportunity.

Well done boys, that's what we want to see

Thought they shut Connar down pretty well

I think you are forgetting Izzo who just gave a 9/10 performance.

There's no such thing as 'last man', the LOTG only talk about 'number of defenders' being a consideration.
This typically means that no more than 1 defender, aside from the one committing the foul, has a chance of intervening.
So, the common scenario is for the sweeper to commit the foul while the keeper is in goals and that's a clear red card, agreed?
People don't realise that when the keeper is out of goals but another defender is behind him, it's actually the exact same scenario - only 1 defender behind the one committing the foul.
Except the outfield player there is far less likely to be able to stop a shot than a keeper.
So that's how the defender comes into play - Looking at it completely objectively, that was a very clear case of DOGSO. Very easy decision for the referee.

Was also good to see the referee have a chat with the AR when the flag went up for the first goal, then correctly award the goal. The AR raised the flag to tell the referee of the offside player, the referee made the final decision that the Glory touch cancelled it out (AR might not have been able to tell if it was a 'resetting' touch or not).

I didn't forget him. I thought he had a fantastic game. It's a sign of his improvement this year in that his performance today doesn't rate a mention in the top 3. I'm expecting that level of performance from him. Fab performed above expectations and Posco was immense. If I could fit 4 into 3, then yes, Izzo would've got some points.

Its a sign that we played well as a team for a change. Izzo has been MOM for the previous 3 weeks.
