I particularly enjoy how you quote your own posts.

But the main question is how does he gain a "spell in the youth team" when they play their last game this week and if successful he probably wouldn't be eligible for the GF?

I'm glad you enjoy that Timmy. Mainly it was in response to FP who disagrees.

He can have a spell on the bench or on the beach.....I don't care. I just don't want him starting for a while.
I'm not making him a scapegoat as 2 or 3 of the back 4 and Powell and Fab deserve a spell as well.
Anyway, good to hear you guys on the telly....great support.
Some pretty funny songs too.

Honestly thought our defense did well to contain them. We could have easily lost 4-1 or more.

First half, I don't think we contained them at all. I think they missed A LOT. Second half we did much better, but they still should have had a couple at least.

His mistake rate would be the highest in the team. Trying hard but lacks composure so not suited for the mid and his passing is poor.
Defensively very nieve and is not good in the air.
So I don't see him starting any games next year.
He does have potential and looks good at training but he is not the standard we need.
Same can be said for half the team.

Mc Ging didn't stand out as the major problem for me today. Interesting decision though to deploy him there. Womby, he has the best pass rate in the league... but tbf I think too much is being made of that and it speaks more to Okon ball than to McGing in particular.

If I was to drop a player to youth at the moment it would probably be Rose. Decision making is too slow. But I don't want to ride him, he's young and has quality, just needs time.

Where I thought we were weakest defensively was our left flank, Ascroft and Pain were poor defensively and Galloway was forced to be the traffic cone in far too many overlaps and two on ones. Ascroft giving away those two free kicks to begin with was awful. His positioning was poor. Then whoever it was leaving Cahill unmarked - it was worse than unforgiveable. Second time he scored it was Powell, but if Cahill beats you to a header, then you can't be too heavily blamed.

Think BA nailed it in his post about how attacking we still were at 1-1 and down to 10. Needed to reshuffle and change the game plan. Also, for a possession based team, we were poorer than any other side who has gone down to ten in maintaining possession. We need a real ten and a ball playing DM next to Monty and a CB who can distribute properly ASAP - or the pain will continue.

Tonight unfortunately I think we and the Ref made City look good. Truly shocking performance by the ref - it looked like a genuine farce. If Roys is a red, then so is Cahills later on. Worst challenge in the game by the ferret headed dwarf went un carded.

Jakobsen has given me someone new to hate. Yeah he cops a forehand to the face. But if he doesn't dive, which he does, it's just a yellow, as it should be. And he kept diving too, total cheating scumbag for mine. Glad its so rare that I see a Mariner dive or fake like this. Newsflash ref, and linesman, if someone legitimately coat hangers you while you're running and lays you out flat, you can't get up a millisecond later to run screaming into the other players face to play that stupid forehead seal wrestling game that some players seem to love. Players cop hands and forearms to the head like that all the time, the difference is most don't dive straight away. (Like when Cahill did it to McGing, actually looked harder, he just stayed up and had a whinge) which leads me to my favourite moment, when McGing decided to kick a lump out of him. My own personal match highlight. LOVED it.

Also bollocks that it was deliberate by Roy, he wasn't trying to hit his face, this wasn't a brain snap moment. It was a clumsy foul. Saw he was coming, and was just putting his arm out to shepherd like strikers do - like Fornoroli and Cahill did all bloody night, but he's clumsy and doesn't get the chest - so yeah he should cop a yellow. But a red is just needlessly destroying a game.
Dibo, afraid I'm not feeling very cheered up :-|:headbutt:

That's truly hilarious.

Cahill two goals, Fornoroli is such a bloody handful, but Brattan ran the show, wish we had someone to rake those balls all day long. Quality player.
And Izzo made what 7 saves against a strike power like they have....what a joke

Highlights from the away bay:

- 40 people outsinging an entire stadium of plastic fans
- "he's got a ferret on his head" at City's #27
- hanging shit on Caceres and Fitzy who warmed up in front of us
- "Welcome to the Melbourne Library" clapclap clapclapclap clapclapclapclap
- "You're shit when you're red, you're shit when you're blue, f**k Melbourne Heart, and f**k City too"
- "It's only 2-1, it's only 2-oneeeeeeeeeeee, how shit must you be, it's only 2-1"

. and to lighten the mood on the walk back to the city, we also had:
  • "we missed you megaphone, we did ... oooooohhhh megaphone we missed you"
  • "TNT" with a street performer
  • "we love you possum, we do .... oooooohhhh possum we love you"
. plus ... apparently ... there was some pole dancing and twerking. but I honestly didn't see that

Our defence, as usual, was abysmal. In the first half at least - couldn't tell in the 2nd. our LB was non-existent. Our awareness of players on the far post, also non-existent. Their goal, as always our defenders are standing there scratching their balls rather than doing their job.
We kept fighting, but you could tell the refereeing was getting to them. Of course, when that happens, that's when we need leadership.
Thought our attack was largely ordinary in the second half, stemming back from the midfield. All through the game we did suffer from a lack of movement off the ball, particularly in attack.

Having said that, we still held a lot of ground against them and had we been treated fairly by the referee we would have had a good shot. We got taken out by blatant fouls a few times on the edge of the box with no action, and they had free reign to smash us without even going for the ball whenever we had an attack.

Izzo, as always, kept us in the game.

Cahill...f**king Cahill. What pisses me off is that he shouldn't even be that hard to stop. He floats around the defence, and gets a free header. That's his entire game. so if the defence actually paid attention to something other than the seagulls they'd be all over him. That should be a priority.

What's really frustrating this season is that for so many games we were so close to winning or drawing, but it was a bit of luck - or a LOT of match changing referee decisions (like all the blatant deliberate handling in the PA in the first 4 rounds that were missed).

It's painful how close we've been to punching above our weight this season and by all rights we should be in the middle of the table somewhere.

Oh well, good away crowd, made some good noise. Many, City fans are silent aren't they? The first time we heard the end near us was when they politely clapped at around the 90th minute (no kidding!)

Anyway, as per precedent, I look forward to the referees calling up the club to apologise.

f**king Bouzanis, f**king dog f**king c*** f**king tosser. If he has run 40 yards to argue with the AR and referee, he should have been booked for dissent. They shouldn't have had a bar of it.

Arguably the plastics are showing a level of game management that reflects the higher leagues they have come from and we need to grow up and get with the program.
Like it or not, that's football

They didn't do it in the past - they're starting to now look like they care enough to be pricks. Before, they'd swan around and not really react.

From a City supporter's point of view it'd be a welcome change, but from an opposing supporter's or player's view or from an official's view it makes them far less pleasant.

That said, they're there to win matches, not friends.

fkn gormless, stupid FFA, dropkick, douchebag, referees and their touchy, feely, no contact, fkn mindset ...that red was an absolute outrage ....and Fabs yellow was equally ridiculous, another game ruined by pedantic fkn arsehats....other than that , I never really thought we looked like winning BUT at least it wasnt a thrashing

When was that? Taping the replay to see if can find it.

And not to dob on one of our own, but Blake Powell did a damn, if not stiffer, arm to the head of the same whining city wank that Roy alledgedly viciously attacked

Wasn't that the one the commentators mentioned later in the second half?
If it is the one I'm thinking of, Ned Zelic was queried about how he saw that one and he went quiet for long enough to register his distinct contempt for the ref, before saying something along the lines of how it certainly was more card-worth than the first one - didn't sound like he felt either were an issue though.

My takeaway was that he felt like there'd been about a million of those in this game, as well as the rest of the A-league without anyone getting punished particularly on it....
