Complete fluff.

However, I believe we can get points from both games but we have to defend as a unit. We do this and improve our showing for the ball and with our attack we will score goals.

It's definitely not impossible and with Brandan off on a red tonight, things just brightened a little bit for NYE.
I'm still not optimistic about either though tbh.
Would feel better with Tavares and Posco back in the squad.

You have a short memory FP. Harry has played there twice and been f**king woeful twice. He cannot play RB!

Maybe as I only recall once... but come on that was last season, when everything was poor. He's a different player now for mine in a different system under a different coach with a now confident keeper behind him. But it's a question of whether you think Neil at LB and Galloway on his offside is worse than Ascroft at RB and Galloway back on his best side. Personally I'd back Ascroft to do a better job at RB than Neil as LB and Galloway was excellent at LB for mine, so I see it as a win win.

Yeah I agree Middy.

Nebbake, you'd think Tav will be a solid chance for NYE and Roux as well. City are hot and cold, we're at home and will have a good home crowd... so I see that as the more likely win. f**king Cahill loves big games though - and he'll likely be fired up by NYE crowd etc... and Fornaroli is the best striker in HAL.

My laboured point is... The Mariners deserve their due. Should be celebrated as the leagues greatest overachieving underdog and the invaluable contributors to Australian football that we are. CCM should bravely push this narrative. Because A) it's the truth. And B) it's vitally important to the future of Aussie football that smaller clubs become valued instead of being repeatedly menaced with extinction unless they become a big club.

Boxing Day rant over.
The club did push this narrative quite boldly but once the results stopped flowing, even our own fanbase started mocking any effort to do so.

Having said that, I feel the club does push its proud history of production/grooming of NT stars at most opportunity - certainly far more so than other HAL clubs.

nasty weather down here today. Severe wind warnings - practically a tropical storm (Melbourne being a tropical region and all). High humidity, severe winds, flash flooding warning in the CBD. Weather hasn't turned yet, but outside it's got that weird windy/humid feeling when you know it's going to get nasty.

No Tavares, no roux, Faty in, and Neill inexplicably still has a place anywhere on the roster.

I'm worried about tonight - MV are good are pressuring the defence and capitalising on mistakes. Our defence makes mistakes with a bit of pressure. Berisha should have a field day with our lazy, off-with-the-fairies defenders.

Bloody relo's coming over from Qld and haven't seen for years. Not football lovers either. Bad timing

Posco is glass and I believe doesn't suit PO style. Ashcroft and McGing have been ok and really need experience that Posco doesn't have, hence Faty back in squad.

Just no room in Squad for him. We have that little bit of depth now.

Posco is not a ball player like The others and Posco is aggressive which I like but can get dragged out of position with enthusiasm very easily.

Works harder than the others and has more guts that's why we like him.

Just not sure the others have been bad enough to be dropped for him.

Will be very happy with a draw tonight considering we missing Tav and Roux and its in Melbourne. The place will most probably be buzzing.

Enjoy the game JP

Pitch looked a cracker last night

Really? Ive actually never seen anyone mock our contribution regarding NT players these past two years? On Facebook?

As to the club, Ive actually never heard them push the specific narrative I'm talking about either. I've heard them declaim plenty of times how proud of young players we are, our production line, and that's what we're all about etc and then lots of we're so proud of Matty, Mile and Roos rah rah etc...

But it's promotional stuff, and puff piece like -which all the clubs do though and is not the same kind of broader vision narrative of Oz football and flag planting for smaller clubs, challenge the elitism narrative that I'm more specifically talking about. Im sure it's all understood and has been voiced many times by the club but again, I've actually never seen or heard it in like term of what I wrote, and I read a fair bit.

Pereonslly I'd like to see the way we are viewed be successfully reframed. Ie: brought to a level where it's understood by pundits and fans across the league and the value / image perception issue that I think we have is both more accurate, fair and far more positive.

I've rarely been impressed by CCM press and you can disagree, but I think it is directly related to how we promote our brand and or stand up for it and ourselves more broadly.

Things have gotten better that's for sure, but typically we have apologised for our smaller crowds, shaken our heads and say we'll just have to work harder etc and we do not push back hard against our fox or FFA overlords or rarely any press maligning or misrepresenting us. Okon has balls though - so I think he will and already has. MC does too, but he's been a total PR disaster.

Anyway we can agree to disagree. I think we clearly have a huge image problem as people continue to measure us only on crowds and wins. Maybe you're right, the club has nailed it and they're all just determined to hate us, but personally I think we could improve in this regard and it's important to do so - and not just for our own sakes.

The wind has stayed but the nasty parts (rain and storms) appear to have blown away quickly. Still gonna be 30 degs by halftime according to BOM. Interesting night ahead.

Usually yes. Lots of "living in the past" or even wankers more than willing to point out the talent we helped propel into NT territory were bred elsewhere before we put them on the park. It drags down the positive narrative for sure.

I feel we earned a grudging respect from most fans and pundits across the league after the '13 championship, but thats quickly eroded and many have forgotten the rich contribution we've made. That's the trouble.

You're right in some ways, the club doesn't pipe up as much as it maybe should, but I do believe when push comes to shove they'll make a noise (case in point being the Monty "deliberate" accusation late last season).

But there's no doubt there's work to do on our image. Sadly I think it starts with on-field results improving, so it might be a wait to see that image problem correct itself.

f**k me, Berisha must have the most punchable face in the league. Deadset.
I mean, even if you had no idea who he was or what a twat he is. I mean, if you showed a photo of him to somebody who has never watched a game in their life. Nah, screw that, if you just said to somebody who's never watched a game, 'hey, I'll pay you $100 to punch the smirk off that guy", they'd look at him and say "Nah, keep your money. Never seen this fool before in my life, but no idea why, but god I got an urge to deck the prick. Hold my beer....."
