Big fan of these two players. Nice that they still have gratitude for their opportunity and pathway, but their loss of confidence as they received less game time with no explanation is very poor by Victory. Ludicrous that people blow smoke up MV's ass for 'youth development - they should be criticised. How many current Socceroos can you genuinely attribute to them?

Victory can afford to buy proven players and very likely will continue to do so at the expense of discovering and or fully developing young Australian talent. Meanwhile, Victory, Sydney and now City continue to fill their ranks with players that we developed or the least brought to light.

To a large extent this is the nature of the beast and you can celebrate that they instead bring high quality imports here like Khalifallah (sp??) and Berisha, Fornaroli etc.

But the list of CCM Socceroos who victory would never have given the game time to develop into Socceroos is considerable. It's an incredibly important contribution that smaller clubs give that as far as I'm aware has not been acknowledged by the FFA. If we're going to fap about how great victory is on the park, fine, but I think it's madness and an injustice that the mariners have been so derided for our two shit seasons while it's a significant number of our ex players helping to win us the Asian cup and qualify for the WC.

Clubs should get a bonus for every ex youth player that went on to become a Socceroo. But instead city gets 3million for contributing f**k all to the league or Socceroos in its tenure and all the pundits do is talk up clubs who should bloody well be succeeding if they spend 3 times more than us.

Hoping a south coast team can be another real pathway for young Australian players. The big clubs will mainly just poach when young players talent is proven or gap fill out the squad as required. It's no coincidence that us, scum, Au, Roar and welly have been the best clubs for developing young talent.

My laboured point is... The Mariners deserve their due. Should be celebrated as the leagues greatest overachieving underdog and the invaluable contributors to Australian football that we are. CCM should bravely push this narrative. Because A) it's the truth. And B) it's vitally important to the future of Aussie football that smaller clubs become valued instead of being repeatedly menaced with extinction unless they become a big club.

Boxing Day rant over.

Is Storm available?
Id prefer McDonald to Mickey at LB if Galloway has to play RB.

Storm should be back right (no right back jokes please o_O)? Okon said it was only a 'knock' initially didn't he? Re McDonald, he's seen so little football, the times I saw him I thought he looked ok, but Neil looked like a gun when he first came... I feel like it's unlikely that he has the skill but has been so continually ignored, so though Neil is currently a liability, sounds unlikely. I think the better option would surely be to bring Posc in at RB and put Galloway back on the left.

Not a rant FP, your so on the money it's not funny. This post deserves a wider audience.

Would be an interesting conversation if either Pain or Galloway became regular Socceroo squad members, bet the Mariners wouldn't get the credit for giving them more opportunity than Victory.

Australia needs to decide what it's league is about. Is it about being a poor man's Indian Super League and shelling over millions to 36 year old aging stars or is it about building a league of the highest quality so our home grown players can showcase their abilities and strive to win world cups. We will never have the money of European clubs or Chinese clubs even if we had the AFL's and NRL's money so we will never be able to attract true "name" players. Instead we need to invest in our own home grown players to make our own stars instead of bloating the egos of City, Victory and Sydney in their quest to create an unbalanced, boring and unfair league based on how much their foreign owners can spend. Did Germany, Spain, Argentina, the Netherlands and Brazil focus on growing their own talent instead of importing it all like England? Where will that all lead if we even had the money? We need to invest in coaching at grassroots not furthering Tim Cahill's Vi$on. Winning a world cup and consistently performing on the world stage will provide a bigger boost for soccer in this country than Ronaldinho coming down for a year. We need to invest in coaching or we will never grow as a footballing nation.

I Forgot about Posco. I saw Storm at Erina Fair yesterday and he looked fine. Also of note was how fit Fletcher looked, he has dropped about 3 stone from the fat arse that landed here last year.

Marco Rojas really worries me, he has pretty much destroyed most defences he has played against and will be a real hand full, hope Paolo's got a good plan for this match. Loving the football festival at the moment.

No Storm or Tav is going to make this a near impossible task. Unless Rose, Neill and Powell all take a big step up I can't see us winning this one.

Faty sounds a chance.

Or who would you take out McGing or Ashcroft

Maybe play one on the right so Mikey stays out of the left

Our front third is capable if the link play has continued to improve like it had against Roar. But realistically there is very little chance of our backline containing them - I guess Okon likes Neil it would seem - I'm amazed he's starting, and he seems to have zero regard for Posc or else something else has happened. It's a head scratcher and a real shame. Teams get in behind our left flank at will when Galloway hasn't been there and as expected he's not at his best on his off side.

To win this...

Luck... of the multiple players pull up lame or they go down to 9 variety.
A very off day for MV.
Luck... of the ball just won't go in for them variety.
They take the game lightly.
Luck... of the everything we hit goes in and we beat them 5-4 variety.

What's in our hands to maybe get a win... front third on song, with our possession football the best it's been - limiting victories time and thereby chances with the ball and I think Rose/Berry and Powell will need to have their best games to date for us in the mids.

Yeah I think get Faty back in and try Harry at RB and get Galloway back where he belongs. Ascroft is a good athlete and I think could make a decent fist of RB.

MV will cut through our left flank like butter with Neil there.

I think a midfield of Ascroft, Monty and Rose would be interesting and provide us with much more defensive steel. Persisting with Neill looks like what we will be doing but surely one of Posco, Peterson and Whyte have to be close to knocking that door down.

You have a short memory FP. Harry has played there twice and been f**king woeful twice. He cannot play RB!
