I actually feel sorry for McGing, he has looked like a fish out of water at times, and a good solid A-League level player at others.

As I see it, the difference in his performance is a simple one - Neill. When he is paired up with Galloway and has confidence in his FB, he looks very good. But when he feels he has to cover 2 positions when teamed with Neill, he is panicky and caught out of position a lot, which really isn't his fault.

In the game (I forget which one) where Galloway got a niggle and was subbed for Neill, McGing had a complete Jekyll and Hyde game. The difference? Confidence in your outside man.

I said earlier in the thread, losing Storm has not only had a detrimental effect to the left side by having to play Neill again, but by having to move Galloway to the right, 3 of our back 4 are compromised. Put storm back in, move Galloway, our back 4 will be much improved. Add Tavares in the midfield and we are a respectable side again:

I feel the atrocious second half means nobody remembers we were fairly competitive in the first half. Their goal came off a deflection, Izzo was on fire and we were pushing them into wide spaces.

I wish I could agree with you Timmah, but I cannot. I reckon you have your yellow and navy glasses on if you believe we were "fairly competitive" in the first half. We weren't, we looked like amateurs against professionals, and we were very fortunate to be just one behind at half time. Every time MV had possession they looked dangerous, and when we had possession we looked slow and pedestrian.

At least we had a couple of goes of moving the ball forward with a little more pace and intent in the second half; unfortunately when we turned it over our defence was woefully inadequate - as per BG's excellent analysis.

Incidentally Timmah, I really appreciate the info on Posc (and others) that you post :).

Arguably he chases lost causes and that sometimes goes horribly wrong.

No.
both his OG's were due to poor technigue and positioning.
When i was a kid i scored a fair few. After i calmed down and controlled myself in the box it never happened.

Just my opinion FP

Haven't watched the horror yet but I'm feeling for JP and all other Vic Mariners who turned up.

But being a Heart fan JP is built for this or is he the problem? Have u walked under a ladder or seen some black cats JP.
Haha, I am pretty used to this, last year and this year were nothing compared to Aloisi's incompetence. Maybe I am the problem. I became a Heart just after we went on a four game winning streak and were top of the league. I went to my first ever game and we lost with Mate Dugandzic breaking his leg (who was close to being called up to the Socceroos at that point). We then finished sixth and got worse till we were colonised. I became a Mariner the day Roy signed for the club and we then had one of the worst seasons in the history of the league. Err, I'm terribly sorry for cursing you all!

Sorry JP, have to disagree with you there. Bingham is maybe, maybe a CF and behind RoyO and Powell, Lachie is Fabio 2.0 (good in open space but zero work rate) and is still a long way off A-League and Shelford plays RB and again is a long way off A-League.

Bingham is HAL standard already for mine.
Lachie and Shelford are no where near HAL from what i saw.

That's simply not true in this case. He was forced to turn on his heel and was doing everything to recover because of a park football turnover that should never have happened. And his slide was actually nought but a player desperately wishing that he could do something to put the Striker off - he can't intercept form where he is - which is not his fault and to go into the back of the man is beyond stupid. He does the only thing apart from just watch Berisha tap in that he can... But instead Berisha horribly miscues and it goes into McGings path.

Watch it again if you can stomach it. I'm not arguing he doesn't make mistakes etc, but there's no way you can fairly hold him accountable for his initial positioning or the own goal in this instance.

Why is it always McGing scoring own goals? Swear he's matchfixing.

Yeah... because you need to fix matches to get the Mariners to lose. o_O

I'm not sure why we even bother going to Melbourne anymore. 7 years and we haven't won there. 7!!??

Forget whoring ourselves out for Canberran dollars.. might as well save the dosh by forfeiting Melbourne away twice a year and do a little extra training instead. :headbutt:

JP. Of course you're cursed. Why else do you think you've found yourself aboard the ship of the damned?! :pirashoot:

Don't worry, every cursed, whipped, beaten and starved under dog has its day, and as off putting as your presence undoubtedly is ;) I hold you even less accountable for unforced player errors than I do Okon.

Painful as losing continues to be, we'll come good under Okon at the very least next year even with your thrice cursed self at a game. We could still make the six this year and come home with a wet sail, several key elements are there, but we really need to hope MC still has some charity left in him to see us do some business in the January window instead of holding off for the FFA new deal for clubs to be confirmed.

This one in particular was frustrating - he was behind his man so I've no idea why he went to ground. Only if Berisha missed it was he going to get a touch on the ball, and it could only be put goalwards - Berisha did miss, so he put it in his own net. Had he kept his feet we'd be talking about Berisha's shocking miss.

At this point, I'm starting to think we dump Neill, get Galloway back to the left and start Appiah-Kubi as the RB, and ThatBoy at RW... Then we just have to solve the #10 issue.
I had been thinking the same thing for a few weeks. Would be a good backup to Storm.

He has good dribbling, height, heart and can't score. He runs hard so could handle the demands of one of the hardest positions physically. Might take some time but he's behind a few anyway.

If Duke can be turned into a RB then why not AK

Probably get an own goal the way things are going.

Think people are being too harsh on this one. Besides, you and Wombat currently appear to agree, so one of you is obviously wrong. If not I'm giving up on this batshit crazy world.

He was just trying to put him off - yes if he doesn't slide hindsight means he doesn't put a miscue into his goal - but there was no way Berisha should have missed that. Yet he did. 999 times out of a 1000 he puts that in. Whether it was mcgings slide that put him off but he now cops an unexpected own goal there's no way of knowing, But there was no way he could or should have logically felt the ball would go into his path and he was likely to score an OG by sliding.
He doesn't have to slide - but again he's just a big guy forced to turn and chase the leagues best attackers and showing some desperation.

My frustration Is reserved for the ten seconds before - dwelling too long on the ball when there are simple passing options available and then making a poor pass out of a very basic pass and then a very poor touch to see MV get the ball when there was no reason they should have. They weren't even pressing effectively at that point - we just completely f**ked it up.

Just watched

What utter slop. Worst performance under PO

No movement, slow, lazy, bad turnovers. Just a completely shit performance.

Oh Mikey your so shit! Bludging again on the Donachie goal and blaming everyone else.

Had a lot of passengers

Hope when they watch the video they watch MV to see how it's done.
