Definitely some solid glimpses of him starting to express himself and put himself into the game in the second half I thought. But Tommy’s boots at this stage are a bit big to fill I’m afraid. Beyond his passing range, accuracy and fantastic reading of the game, he’s a fantastic defender. Whereas Liam I personally still think is a bit more attack minded / creative by nature as opposed to defensively hungry. And looking across the park I think this may also have put the balance a little off. If Roux was in at RB and McGing played DM alongside Wout I think it’s unlikely city would have had their spells of dominance,

Wout is a lot of defence with a little attack. Tommy is very balanced and like Monty will read and step up defensively if we’re being dominated or otherwise morph into an atracking player if we’re on top,

So I’m not sure how much was city and how much was missing Tommy... and Agree with what others have said, that we just we seemed ‘off’ outside of missing Tommy.

So I suspect it’s more than having a key player out but also the overall balance, and seemed to me the balance was wrong without another defensively strong DM behind what is a very attack minded front 4. I think kubi is probably best of our forwards defensively (and that’s of more use when he’s in the mids aswell) and Da Silva is amazingly 2nd. Hoole gets stuck in which I like, but is reckless and lacks a good defenders timing. Connor, just pressures to close down and keeps pace really. Which is good, but a good defender has to win the ball condistently which he does not.

So anyway, beyond missing a true 9, I thought a lot of our creativity was thwarted last week because we couldn’t build the way we now ike to as we didn’t have the central midfield control that we’ve had in most other games.

Also A League stats has us at 27 yellow cards. The most in the league.
I’ve seen us give up a few yellows this year stopping the play instead of letting them break and score
It'd be the most in the league because our opponents don't cop yellow cards....or VAR decisions..........................................

More seriously though, discipline hasn't been our strongest point over the last few seasons. We've also picked up plenty of really stupid, unnecessary yellow cards. Given that we don't have the depth of some other teams, we really can't afford to be losing key players to unnecessary suspensions...

With players coming back we should be back on form...and we _should_ be able to handle it if Tommy H is still out.

But how is the team going to handle the loss mentally?

On Saturday night, the Western Sydney Wanderers are coming to town. Kick-off is 7:50pm. In anticipation of our crucial clash against a fierce rival, let’s take a look back at our top 10 moments against the Wanderers.

Are we missing any?

1. Saturday October 6, 2012
Central Coast were a part of history as Western Sydney’s first-ever opponents in the Hyundai A-League. Current Socceroos Trent Sainsbury, Mat Ryan and Tom Rogic were all part of a Mariners side which drew 0-0 at Wanderland on the opening weekend of the 2012/13 season.

2. Sunday January 6, 2013
Later that season the Mariners returned to Pirtek and this time confirmed themselves as one of the title favourites, with Daniel McBreen scoring a brace on the way to a 2-0 win.

3. Sunday April 21, 2013:overheadl::overheadl::overheadl:
While the Wanderers won the race for the Premiers’ Plate, it was the Mariners who delivered on Grand Final day, with veteran defender Patrick Zwaanswijk sending them on their way with this header just before the break.

It was a crucial goal by the Dutchman who certainly enjoyed the moment.

4. Sunday April 21, 2013:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
A second goal was needed for the Mariners to feel save and golden-boot winner and goal-machine, Daniel McBreen delivered in the second half with a beautifully taken penalty.

“Macca” wheeled off to celebrate with delirious Mariners fans with a very unique celebration.

After falling short on Grand Final day three times before, it was utter jubilation as the final whistle sounded at Allianz Stadium. Sunday April 21, 2013 would become the proudest moment in the Mariners successful history.

5. Saturday March 29, 2014
Bernie Ibini was the hero when they met again late in the 2013/14 campaign, popping up with a 90th minute goal to hand the Mariners a hard-fought 2-1 win.

6. Saturday April 11, 2015
In the following season, it was a rare Josh Rose goal that sunk the Wanderers and handed the Mariners a 1-0 win in Gosford.

7. Saturday April 11, 2015
This fixture was also the last home game at Central Coast Stadium for Club Legend, John Hutchinson!

8. Saturday January 23, 2016
Fast forward to the last clash between the two sides in January 2016 and it marked the first appearance in a Mariners jersey of Mariners legend Luis Garcia.

Garcia came off the bench in the second half and had an immediate impact, playing a pinpoint pass to Mitch Austin on the left to set up Fabio Ferreira’s equalising goal.

9. Sunday February 12, 2017
Last season, the Mariners capped off a run of scintillating form and won their third match in a row. It was a convincing 2-0 win away from home over the Western Sydney Wanderers which sent the away bay into overdrive at Spotless Stadium

10. Saturday October 14, 2017
We’ve already faced the Wanderers this season where we locked horns in a hard fought 2-2 draw where Asdrubal & De Silva found the back of the net. It was round two and the first real taste of Danny De Silva magic who scored a wonder goal and earned man of the match honours.

Roux, Tommy H and Asdrubal all named. Rowles not named
Pity I thought Rowles looked very good on the left defensively where as Rosey was repeatedly being done over for the lack of that extra burst of pace and speed in changing direction. He offers more in attack though...

Wanderers will be bleeding and desperate after last week. But if we can control the game and score first their heads will drop and we can humble them.

Football, anything can happen, but on form you’d have to be tipping us to take the win.

So I’m quaking in my boots;)

Yeah it’s a decent option. I thought he was struggling. But his opposing player (can’t rember his name) was excellent. Might do better against WSW though.

New 18yr old was impressive but city do seem to be getting a lot of good young talent and there ownership certainly makes it enticing for young players to go there

U think Rowles is injured.
Team sheet just says not selected. Paulo didn’t seem to impressed when he subbed him against Perth. Still has some way to go and someone has to miss out. Rose Snr is getting beat regularly but still finds away to get back into the contest.
Thought Rowles was linking well with Pain

If Rose Snr is struggling we always move Golec to LB and bring Rose bud into CB

I expect Rose Snr to play much better this week. He had been out for a number of weeks before this game, and I believe at his age it is difficult to step up to full pace immediately having missed all this game time. He was outplayed massively last week by the 18 year old from MCY, but the 90 minutes would have done him the world of good.

If I'm wrong, Big Al's plan (above) looks the goods - assuming of course Hiariej is playing and Rose jnr isn't needed to cover the mids.

I feel Liam Rose may be needed in the middle of the park again.

Yeah even if Toms back a full 90 might not be wise.

Paolo may also think WSW are the most likely team we can take 3 points from without Tom. We have a high volume of games coming up. But I’m sure if he can reasonably start him he will.

I can't see Paolo risking Tommy H at this stage in the season and against an opponent like WSW (both based on their position/form and the fact they're a hacky-mchackalot kind of side)

We need to remember that Rowles is a CB by trade not a LB and the requirements of those two roles are very different in the modern game.
