Roar barely deserved a point and definitely not three points.

Ref let them get away with murder. Abysmal officiating. Free kick was for Ascroft's non existent hand ball - or why was he was carrying on with Beath once the half time whistle blew and gesturing that it was his upper shoulder?

Our goal came one of the only times we made a break clean and roar did not simply foul us. So tired of the referees letting select teams get away with illegally destroying and breaking up their opponents play at no costs. It's a legitimate tactic, but it has to come at a cost. Leave your foot in... follow through... always give a push... always pull them back... if it's just a whistle, and not even a yellow for cumulative fouls, they can do it all night, and they did.

We played some good football, nice to see Fab finding his feet, and Roy's for that matter. But we need Roux back asap so Galloway can get back to his side and Tav in for Rose. Rose needs to step it up a gear or I prefer Berry - should learn from McKay - who already knows where he will put the ball before he gets it and will run into space not turn back into trouble to re-skin the same players again and again. Nothing fancy, but creates movement, fluidity and is dependable. And on Mckay... we will never beat teams if we allow their key players space. Give him a kick FFS. Maddening.

Neil, please get him to watch Galloway to see how easy it can be to position yourself to cut down the passing lanes - every team runs rampant down his side and plays it in behind at will when he's at LB.

Powell is out of position and not improving there. He missed key passes and lost us possession that any half decent 10 would have kept. I like his muscle and attitude but in his position, it appears his best attributes are wasted to me and it's costing us... but I don't know what the solution is barring changing shape.

Positives, we moved the ball much faster, actually used the middle of the park at times, (and to score no less) and we got it forward more often with better penetration, however we still lack that key bit of anticipation and clarity around the box, just a yard shy again and again. Though Roar are a very good defensive side.

Was personally very frustrated because I really think Okon and the team deserved a better result tonight. Which is promising despite the loss.

Full marks to Okon, we lost on individual errors and he greatly improved us in areas we were lacking just inside a week. Started Fab which most were disagreeing with but looks like he believes quality is permanent form is temporary and gave Fab another chance which I thought he took tonight.

We played quite well.
Monty made a massive difference. We had a wolf out there instead of sheep and it was good to see.
Izzo was good and Ivan can carry the drinks from now on. Izzo, of course, go done on the free kick but apart from that very assured.
Back 4 is shit but tried hard. Galloway the best but far from perfect.
Neill cost us the game.................who jogs/walks behind their player and watches them tap in unchallenged at the back post??? Apart from storm?
Pain was good and a constant danger. Fab was average but the through ball to Paddy was so classy and he improved after that.
Monty was boss but rusty as well. Berry did better than Rose.
Royo scored a quality goal.
Powell was Ok.
bay 16 was great tonight.

3pts Monty
2pts Pain
1PT Roy

I cannot add much more to what FP and Wombat have posted above. Two spot on summations.

What a lovely ball from Fab, the kind of pass a #10 would play. ;)

Surely there must be another player who can play left back somewhere in Gosford.

Definitely lacking a ball playing midfielder, dm, am, or #10 any one will do.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
right then...punt mickey neill (his lazy or scared) put Galloway back on the same side as Connor , give monty a pay rise cause we got better with him there and hurry back Faty and Tav...oh and Iz , practice those wall defences please

1. Fox spent 10 sec on it but had a close up of ball hitting Rose extended arm. Ashcroft was arguing but ref just ignored him instead of saying it wasn't you. However from Pauls comments about what ref had to say at halftime ref may have given it against Ashcroft. There was a handball but wether the ref got the right one we won't know.

2. Football 101 FP and our naive kids don't know how to do it. Last year when they tried they got red cards. Monty and Taveras are good at it everyone else has no idea. The earlier the foul the less likely to get punished and allows defence to get set

Paul will take all year to get teach these guys some of this stuff and then will hopefully get better smarter players

I really enjoyed watching Micky Neill jog the 70m back to goal when we were facing a 3 on 2 counter attack...top effort.

This is what I wish people demanding instant results would remember. We had the hands down worst squad last season and a coach who was out of his depth. This season we've got a coach who seems to have a far better grasp on how to improve a side and has done so in small amounts in a very short space of time.

Provided morale can be kept relatively high there's no reason we can't finish in or around the edge of the six. But we'll need to get a wriggle on.

I don't think we're going to finish in the six, but I don't think we'll finish last. I'm more sure about the first bit than the second...

Thanks for that. Did roses arm leave his body and move deliberately towards the ball?

Re 2. I know, and agree, but with my yellow glasses on thrice I saw us niggle ( smartly) and get pulled up for it... when Roar consistently got away with far more. Also Roar took the niggle past the point of where imo it is typically pulled up - at least two maybe three of the follow throughs should have drawn yellows imo. Takes a player out of the next phase of play. Cynical, deliberate and a few were clearly dangerous.

That said, yeah, our young midfield players definitely need to learn how to harass and impose themselves better - Trent also - slight as he is - could be a much bigger nuisance if he put his mind and speed to it. Wombat nailed it for mine with the Monty wolf line. He was terrific barring one comedic defensive moment and the three or four typically loose passes a game that he makes.

Powell is no good at it either. He's a striker and over does it and obviously fouls too often. Like Roy - but upfront it's fine.

Bottom line though, you will not win a midfield battle if you're not willing to impose yourself both on the game in your adventure with the ball and physically on the other team. Rose is playing too conservatively on the ball and does not impose himself physically enough when off it - but he's so young still and definitely has what it takes... so in 3 years, it will be a very different story I'm certain - but as fans it's the now we look to.

I do think ascroft is giving his own and mcging clearly strengthening. Persevere with these two and we will not be as strong as we need to be at the back for the next season, then we will be strong enough but not consistently... then in two years they will be excellent and will have a stellar season... and then Sydney will poach them.

Neil drives me spare - and I'm of a charitable optimistic disposition.

Wombat think your long way from perfect is probably a bit too hard on Galloway given he's playing on his off side. I saw the errors too, but it's not often you see an FB switched flanks and do that well. Not perfect - would be fair. But he's a great pick up.

First Tele article is bollocks. Second a more accurate reflection. Brisbane did not dominate the first half. Both sides had chances and were clearly in the game.

In regards to where we finish, pretty clear that a lot depends on whether A) we keep Monty on the park. B) we get Taveres back on it. C) Roux and Galloway stay on the park.

There's also a D) if we get a quality AM in in January we will score a lot more goals and defend via keeping better possession also.

Lot of variables there... so Dibos probably right. But I personally think if all those things aligned we've shown that we're top 6. But pull out a piece and it's Jenga with our lack of experience/depth.

Does anyone know what is the story with Posco. He did not appear on the injured list, just not picked. If he managed a full run in the juniors I think we need to get him back asap. He can play fullback as needed and may even be what we need in the dm position until Tavares comes back.

I do not like bagging players or being overly negative as people here probably know but I am with FP about Micky Neil. The way he made no attempt to go with Maclaren for their 2nd really did me in.

Is there anyone here who knows how he keeps getting picked as a fullback, surely it is time to try anyone else.

Have to keep looking for the positives in seasons like this. And last season. And the season before that.;)
Like WSW match I really enjoyed the game, very open, chances both ways. It was frustrating to get so close and we deserved a point.
The style and structure continues to improve. Agree that Mickey Neill appears out of his depth this season and that Posco should be the starting RB (wherever he may be). He was being double teamed by Petratos and Borello in the first half though and not getting a lot of support down the left.
To put it into perspective though, Roar's starting 11 included 3 current Socceroos, 2 former Socceroos and a former Danish international. Their keeper has won 5 A League championships. They bring off the bench the 2 time Johnny Warren medalist and a former La Liga winger.

Whilst I agree with you Big Al, the part I struggle with is that most of these kids have been through so many elite academy's, representative squads, and national junior team setups you would of thought it was already imbedded in their DNA.

Those teams would have a high turnover by comparison to a 27-game season A-League squad wouldn't they? First team football is always another step up.
