R1 - Mariners v WSW Grand Final Rematch

I think we did well not to lose that game. They had the upper hand for long periods, choked off our vertical forward play and frequently won possession in our half. Tails were up though, Roux, Flores and Paso were all great, Duke's goal a cracker. A top effort for such a newly rebuilt team.

Well we were poor at the start of last season as we tried a new style. This season the same as we seem to have upped out tempo.

The Flores/Duke combo will absolutely arse rape some poor side at some point, Roux was impressive too. We missed Wee Mac but all in all a fair result.

WSW aren't a great side, they are just superbly organised and fit. Top 4 but that's it for them this season.

Very happy with us. We will go ok

How bloody good was Pasfield? Saved our asses quite a bit. Impressed by Storm, really enjoyed Flores, and my god, that goal, I could watch it all day. That pass, and Duke's run, holy hell ass. Beautiful stuff.

We looked very flat after about the 70th minute, we lost Flores and our attack kind of died out, and we were on the ropes for a long while before that goal. Happy with the draw, Wanderers are a very good side, better than last year I think.

Also, idiot moment of the match for me: only realising in the 80th minute that Wee-Mac wasn't starting or on the bench because he is with the national team. I knew this days ago but it completely slipped my mind.

Decent effort and happy with the draw although I thought we were the better side.

Pasfield 9. Mom. Superb shot stopping. Distribution not as good as Ryan but I'm not sure if Ryan would have kept it to only 1.
Storm boy 8. First time I've seen him play and massively impressed. A much better Footballer than Pedj.
Tesco 7. Solid.
Ando 6. Looked a bit dodgy.
Rose 6.5. Ok
Hutchinson 6.5 workmanlike
Monty 7. Great in patches. Excellent professional foul at the end.
Flores 7.5 quality. Best touch since Perez. Very exciting.
Fitzy 7. Not bad...needs to practice headers.
Sterj 6. Some good balls but no good as a target man.
Duke 6. Brilliant goal and a great work ethic but touch was poor at times. Will be great by the end of the season.

A very impressive first up game.
Although under the pump for long periods our defence was well organised & looked strong for the most part.
Still some tightning to do , as does all clubs, but a real confidence booster.

Passfield= made some great saves but looks very awkward with the ball at his feet(compared to Ryan)
I was very impressed with Storm Rioux, he gave us the balance that we need, post Bojic.
Sainsbury & Anderson will develop into one of the leagues better CB pairing
Rose & Hutcho were consistant,as expected.
Monty was awesome, he chased & tackled everything
Fitzy was good but needs to work on his combinations with Rose
Flores showed some deft touches but didn`t look as fit as the others
Dukey scored a sensational goal & worked hard all game
Mile wasn`t very impressive.
I was glad Simon came on. He took the challenge to T-Stanley & won in the air 3 times.Something for Duke to keep in mind.

Overall, a tradesmanlike performance with half of the team being new.
MOM - Monty

I loved the atmosphere- well done YA
Loved the canon!
Refereeing was ordinary.

Stadium management was crap. =
Lining up for 20 minutes for a beer won`t win friends.
I thought more effort was going to be put into the fans on the sunny side...
We couldn`t even get an ice-cream & the bottled water ran out before kickoff (so disappointing!)

the band were f'n great .well done brass boyz. as styles said monty was outstanding. the "art full dodger"
picking their pockets at will . passfield was very good.
i'd like to see duke up front and not on the wing ,but that may be hard with the players available.
I thought they got away with a lot of dodgie shit (like their goal) but I have n't
seen the replay yet .

I picked a draw for this game. I think WSW shaded us on the field. I put that down to having so many new faces in the side. Once they gel, look out.

WSW showed they are not some flash in the pan and will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. So hard to break down and very quick on the counter.

I still think there is a bit of nerves at the back between Pasfield, Sains and Anderson. They don't look that convincing passing amongst themselves. I suspect they are going to get caught out at some point. My Man of The Match has to be Pasfield. He kept us in the game. Monty was a close second with some great tackling.

Maybe I am a hard marker but I thought Flores had an ordinary game. In that I mean he didn't stand out. He will improve without a doubt and lookout when he and Wee Mac get on the pitch.

Overall a good start to the season. The signs are there that we will be near the pointy end come the end if the season. I will take the point remembering that we started with a draw last season.

Whisper it but Hutch was immense last night.

Agree, yet again the stadium facilities were poor. Not enough staff to cater for a large crowd.

. yeah it will be interesting to see how marcos and the wee-man develop together. without being able to fault the guys on the pitch it was apparent that we were missing the little fella

. questions have been raised about marcos' fitness ... but i think he just needs to find his place and the team also needs to learn how to take advantage. similar criticisms were raised against rogic

. but we need to remember that not everybody can run constantly like matty or dukie ... nor do we want/need them too irrespective of their fitness level

Loved being back at the game. As for our players, I thought we did well considering its a new team and we were missing WeeMac.

Passfield made some really top quality saves. As for distribution and ball work, I think that will come. If he keeps this up we won't have to endure Reddy.
Was very entertaining watching Flores. His reading of the plays and link ups with Duke were great. Can't wait to see what he can do with WeeMac.
Storm was great and probably did as well as trusty Rose.
Duke was great and caused a lot of trouble for their backs and very nice goal to chip Covic.
Was impressed by Monty too and Sainsbury was solid. Ando seem pretty relaxed on the ball which is a good sign.
Sterg was a bit off and missed the chances he had.

It's a pity we had so many tiring players at the end. The subs seemed to upset the balance and structure. We were on the back foot from then on.

Overall a good first appearance for this new team.

As for the YA. Did a great job but we couldn't hear you guys very well in Bay 8. Did you guys have Megaphone? we couldn't hear it this time like we could in the last ACL game although there was less people at that game. Was great having the brass band but they were very hard to hear.

RBB - disgraceful bunch of animals as always :)

Considering where WSW should be able with their stability and where they left off last season, combined with how 'new and adjusted' we are - and clearly we have plenty of room for improvement - I'm certain come mid-season CCM are going to be the force they were last year or even better.

Shame to lose the 3 points but all in all extremely positive the way things are looking

What GrA said - I swear, almost SPOT on what I was going to put :)

All things considered, it was a promising game I think... My young 'un feels like we lose or tie every time he goes - he's not wrong either, don't bring him often on account of the late games, so he was EXTREMELY disappointed when WSW scored. I told him that the correct response to the opposing team scoring, is to cheer louder for your own team, so he did. Being stuck in bay 2, I was happy to hear that he dragged along the little girl sitting behind us ;) making a nuisance of ourselves in the vain hope that someone else might take up the chant. ;)
Anywho, I too though Pasfield did well but, FFS! Someone needs to tell him not to try to play the ball with opposition players near him. At least three times, he had to dribble the ball past a WSW player, my nerves cannot take it! And yes, I think the uncertainty between the defenders and him is part of the reason. They should get there though, I still think there's promise in the Trent/Ando combination although Ando seems less chatty than he was last year. I'm hoping it's just start-of-the-season nerves.

Oh yeah, and I actually thought we were headed for a deserved loss throughout most of the first half, so one point is not a bad start :)

Disappointed to walk away with the one.. but considering the changes and players not available its only onwards and upwards from here.
For our first home match was a bit shocked to see the amount of empty seats we had scattered around, I would have thought the GF replay at home would have drawn a few more in.

I missed the cannon too!

Oh, forgot to add... The cannon was OK, disappointingly quiet, but a cool idea :)
And I loved the point when the "We are champions" chant went up, seemed actually leave the RBB without reply for a little, don't mind admitting that it brought a smile to my face ;)
