What the f**k? Why are we letting a key member of squad trial with a f**king fourth div. Scottish side mid season when they can't even f**king sign anyone for 9 months?

This is slightly embarrassing.

Money, simple.

Rangers always come good with their financial commitments, ask any ex Spirit fan.:(

A trial......with a 4th division club....... Do they not get the internet now they've been relegated or something?

Ryan has a serious chance of playing in the 2014 world cup and playing in the 3rd and 2nd scottish divisions before that isn't going to give him a chance of playing in that. I know there a "big club" but you know what's bigger, the World Cup.

I see the upside of this... Yes, we lose him for 10 days, mid-season (he'll be back to face the scum at Bluetongue), but we get to keep him for the rest of the season, including finals I presume... maybe even the ACL. He is off contract in 4 months, beyond which point we get zilch.

What's the alternative? Sell him for a bit more coin and lose him for the rest of the season?

Unless I'm missing the point, I don't see this to be embarrassing at all.

How many games has Matt been on tv? Don't they have it in Scotland. Or do they need to know that he can use a knife and fork. Totally ridiculous waste of time.

Yep, you are missing what is best for Maty and his career!

Just sent the following email to head office - would be interested in any fellow Mariner fans thoughts

As an inaugral member of the Mariners for the past 8+ years I have seen many talented young players head overseas such as Jedinak, Griffiths, Vukovic, Simon, Amini and most likely Rogic among others and many times these have happened mid season. I understand the financial opportunities these transfers often present to the Club and have never seen fit to criticise such decisions. However, the news today that our best player is going to miss a critical match next weekend for a 10 day trial at a Fourth Division Scottish Club is more than I can take.

Can someone from the club please answer the following questions either through this email or hopefully through the media in general as I know many other long time fans are of the same opinion as myself.

1. What is the benefit for the Club in a 10 day trial for our best player at a 4th Division Scottish Club who cannot even make a January transfer bid?

2. What is the benefit for the player?

3. What opinion does the club hold on the importance of the A-League if they are willing to put their own ambitions on hold in our own championship to cater for the needs of a 4th Division Scottish Club?

4. Why can't Rangers scout the player themselves while he is still at the Club? Did the club put this to Rangers?

5. What is the Club's plan on signing younger players to longer term contracts so we can transfer at the end of seasons?

6. Why are we shopping our best players to 4th division Scottish clubs mid season (as my understanding is that this was at least in part Lawrie McKinna's idea)?

As mentioned earlier I fully understand the financial difficulties involved in being the A-League's smallest club however gross mismanagement of this kind really needs to be highlighted by all lovers of this great club.

But Maty should be aiming much higher, even if he has to stick around through ACL. And ACL may be good for him too.

I agree 100% but my thoughts and priorities lie with the club and its success and prosperity. Please keep in mind that we are flat broke at the moment.

There must be a better challenge for him than going to the Scottish 3rd division playing against part timers and becoming a zombie

All the media seems to be suggesting rangers will be back in SPL next season. Probably due to their TV deal.

But hell if he becomes first choice at rangers in 2 years worst case they will be in SPL, if he isnt noticed in england before that

If we're going to sell him then sell him but to send him to "train" for a week to the Scottish 4th division for week before a huge game sends a bad message no matter what our financial situation not to mention what bad career move we are setting Ryan up for.

Woooooooootttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, Tom Rogic is likely to remain a Mariner for the rest of the A-League season after his proposed move to the English Premier League club Reading collapsed.
His agent, Andrew Bernal, confirmed that Rogic has opted to stay at Bluetongue Stadium instead of the Madejski and will reassess his future at the end of the A-League season.
The 20-year-old Socceroo is in the last year of his deal with the Mariners and will be able to move for free in the off-season. Other European clubs have signalled their interest in signing Rogic but, as of yet, no other offers have been tabled to the Mariners.
''No, there's nothing. There's been a bit of interest from some teams in England; there's rumours of some other European clubs, but as such there's a lot of speculation,'' McKinna said. ''There's nothing concrete but at the moment, Tom Rogic is staying with the Mariners until something concrete comes up.''

it is weird, it is like this way we can keep him for the season, but at the same stage, against possibly our biggest threat to the title he will be away. This game against victory is more than a 6 pointer, we win and the league will again be within our grasp

Matty Ryan is being badly advised by this move, Rangers cant sign him anyway they are under a transfer embargo, they went into liqidation last year for not paying their debt, they play in the 3rd divison which is a part time league most of the teams in this league play on g4 plastic pitches ,they also have a 3 year ban on playing in european comps so tell me why is this young up and coming australian international being sold this as being a good career move, do your homework on this club before heading to the other side of the world Matty there will be bigger and better moves to come your way be patient and take all the advice you can from Arnie and teammates that know better.

The club has said it as a shoulder injury but I think they may be trying to put a spin on this after the uproar it caused. Maybe Mat called the PFA after all......
