Pissant Town V Mariners Round 6

Well that was a very underwelming performance!

Elrich and Disco should never pull on the shirt again and the rest of them weren't far behind. Without little Mac we looked devoid of ideas other than pushing 4 up front and booting it forward!

Next Saturday could be a very long 90 minutes.... :(

That was nothing short of disgusting from all concerned except Travis, Kwasnik, Hutch and Wilko.  Travis must wonder what he's gotten himself into.....

McKinna out - this has to stop.

Could not agree more. With the crap that we have in this squad (Elrich and Mirdja for a start) some serious changes need to be made at or before the end of season.

McCabe and the board should put their balls (pardon the pun) on the table and get rid of McKinna and bring in a coach who is actually going to try and coach players and develop a system of play i.e. a european coach (not english or scottish).

I reckon that there are most probably better players than Mirdja and Elrich out there in the local leagues.

I'm not gonna go into name calling, or attempt to lampoon anyones posts. Nor am I going to scream for the heads of any players or coaching staff. all I'm gonna say is this:

Is it too much to ask for the Mariners to put 2 good games together, back to back?

???

lol, like lavicka?

which european style - italian? dutch? french? german? spanish?

european football these days is what the mariners pretty much try to play - long balls, quick breaks, closing down in numbers

we lost tonight because we came up against the best midfield in the league (cassio, dodd, reid, pantelis), playing for the first time together for adelaide this season, that tore us in the first 25 minutes - after that they really didn't have a solid opportunity on goal

and even the goal from an individual piece of brillance and not open play

we struggled creatively and with heff and weemac in next week we should be vastly better

I was planning to take the family to Bluetongue for the GC game. Not anymore.
If Adelaide had a more competent attack we would have lost 4 or 5 zip.
Our passing was rubbish, our midfield couldnt hold their own and didnt feed the strikers. Travis was the only player who threatened Adelaide,so the coach replaces him!??
Why add another striker when the midfield was getting beaten and couldnt feed 2 strikers previously???
Where was our Jamaican international, where is that welsh bloke Crowell?
The team is poorer for the loss of a dynamic creative midfielder like Gumps and an effective stiker like Petrovski.
I feel some sympathy for Elrich being played on the left, but surely there a left footer in the Youth League who would be stoked to fill in?
Even by Mariners standards this was mediocre.

I would give Elrich a run at his natural position (RM) before completely letting him go. He was absolute rubbish tonight, but he was on the left.
Clarky was also schooled. Seems we need a new left side!
Mrdja's touch was woeful again, but seriously, neither striker got any good service, and when they went hunting for the ball, they always had a man right on their back, giving them no option but to backpass to a static midfield. Whenever Adelaide got the ball up front, they were running onto it, had heaps of room because no-one was marking, or was able to backpass to a forward running onto it. That's how they had so many chances, which we couldn't create tonight.

We lost because we tried to play forward of their mids. It was poor management at its best. Every time we lost the ball in the final third they could break through midfield without even a player to stop it. And this lasted for 30 mins!!! After that he tried to rejig the mids and was found wanting. The shape was all wrong, players were caught out of place time and time again. You would think that a coach would have certian scenarios already played out on the practice field but not our Lawrie. and then to top it all off, his final plan when the game is all but lost is to remove the mids all together? I'm sorry but this just does not cut it. Lawrie out.

Lol, i think people need to calm down just a tad, we went into this game planning on playing a weak, understrength Adelaide with no confidence, instead we managed to time it perfectly so all their best players were re-united in a "our saviours have arrived" style comeback, they played their best game of the season and we played our worst, we still have 3 extremely influential players to come in Doig, Mcglinchey and Wolfe who didnt play, lets not lose hope just yet!

Clutching at proverbial straws: Travis looking lively early on; Simon took a great mark (or climbed all over the defender for a great headed attempt); it was arguably a better peformance than against the Roar; Bojic battled as well as ever; McKinna the master tactician subbed Elrich off for Heff at half time as my wife, who knows nothing about football, advised him to. Oh, and they have rescued Scooby.

And you have to laugh (or cry) at these comments -

"After Adelaide scored they didnt create anything, we didnt create anything, we probably nullified each other out," McKinna said. - Adelaide probably figured they didn't have to do any more having created four chances before they scored :redcard:

Central Coast right-back Brad Porter echoed McKinnas analysis of a scrappy encounter.
"Like Lawrie said, there was nothing too bad out there. The performance defensively wasnt too bad". Probably Porter's worst game of the season and defensively the team was run ragged in first twenty minutes  :redcard:

weak. if you are going to scrutinize the team and their performance, at least have the decency to turn up to the games.

I actually thought Nik was better than Matty last night. Unfortunately Elrich has been given enough chances without showing enough to deserve even a bench spot. Hutch was stupid giving away that free kick. We missed McGlincheys work rate, lets hope they're upo for it next week.
