Very confident ahead of this game. Adelaide 9th while Mariners are 3rd  :vhappy:
Only won one game so far which was a 1-0 win over Perth with a penalty. Also Adelaide at home let the opponents dominate the game for some weird reason from Aureilo Vidmar.

Imagine the starting team will be something like this;

__________Vukovic___________
__Porter__Wilko__Boogs__Heff__
___________Bojic____________
__Elrich___________Hutcho____
________McGlinchey__________
_____Simon________Mrdja_____

Opinions?

That is a more solid line up. Though personally would prefer dmac to mrdja

The squad this week is very hard to predict, you have a few players fit to play but not enough to start and you have other players constantly going from first team to bench and etc.

What about Pedj? Isn't he injured?

If so, then it would be Hutch to the base of the diamond and Kwas or Wolfe in on the left.

hence the comment about injuries i do not know about

certainly hutch would anchor and as you said kwas or wolfeman on the left

nice to have that depth

why is Mcglinchey out ?  the game is on Wednesday so he could at least be on the bench for the Adelaide game....(assuming he doesn't bring an injury back)

given that they are playing jordan in amman even if he would make it back in time i doubt he would be in any physical shape to play after flying amman to dubai, dubai to sydney/melbourne and then sydney/melbourne to adelaide

given the way he struggled in the heat in brisbane he would have to be superman to have any impact, even off the bench

That is a solid squad ... be interesting to see how and if the new boys get a run at some stage..

It is awesome to have the depth. In a matter of weeks we will have four mids able to play that anchor role and at least 2 in every other mid position. This can only be a good thing for the defensive line too as its more than llikely a few of those mids will find themselves as makeshift backs at some time. It should also keep Elrich and Porter out of the defence and in midfield where they belong although it may just keep Elrich out of the team all together. Will make for awesome training sessions one would hope.

Yeah our depth is paramount... and coming up against an adelaide outfit who are looking very stretched in this regard... with Dodd out, Cornthwaite and jamieson's been struggling top...
Good time to be coming up against the reds.

I'm with jesus squad - well Micks, but with the switch of Nick for Dmac. Personally I'd also be quite happy to see kwas upfront alongside Matty and having a look at Wolfman wide if Pedj is out and Hutch moves to the bottom of the diamond.

Joel Porter will be out for GCU next week too... Minnicon is away on international duty...  Heff should be damnnnnn happy about that!  ;D Then we just need Smeltzy to pick up a knock with the all whites and GCU will be totally ripe for a good plucking at home, right after we've hopefully nicked 3 from the reds away...

How sweet it would be to send ourselves top of the league while standing on the freshly slain carcass of the leagues new golden boys ;D

The pain of Fozzie and all the pundits would be exquisite!

Just read on 442 that Owasu will most likely be out with a neck injury. Good news for us he has looked dangerous for them so far this season?

Adelaides problem for a few seasons has been their inability to score goals.

With our new mean defence, we should be very confident of a clean sheet.

Nice tight 1-0 win to us here

Scans for unlucky Lloyd Owusu

RICHARD EARLE

September 07, 2009 12:00am

ADELAIDE United hard man Lloyd Owusu rates himself just a 50-50 chance of confronting Central Coast Mariners in Friday night's crunch clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Owusu admits he has "been in the wars" - struck down with swine flu on arrival in Adelaide and now fighting to recover from a blow to the head and shoulder during the 1-1 draw on Friday against Wellington Phoenix.

Owusu will undergo scans today to determine if he has nerve damage in his right arm, resulting from a collision with team-mate Michael Marrone at Westpac Stadium.

"I was throwing myself about and obviously in the end I got put on the floor myself," Owusu said. "I remember a big knock then my neck was numb and I still have tingles in my right arm.

"I am probably only a 50-50 chance of playing but I will know more in the morning after having a scan.

"Hopefully there is no nerve damage. I am not sure where the pain is coming from when I turn my head to my right."

But Owusu has resolved to keep throwing his weight around against A-League rivals and create openings for striker partner Cristiano.

Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar started Cristiano and Owusu for the first time in a two-pronged attack against Wellington and will be anxious to have the Ghanaian international's physical presence on hand against Central Coast Mariners.

"That's what I thrive on, that is my bread and butter. Getting in among it," said Owusu.

"We created something. I thought we worked well together. Cristiano made some runs and hit the post so, hopefully, I can be fit and we keep working together up there."

Central Coast will not be easy to stop - now in third spot after a 2-1 triumph against Perth Glory. Cult figure Owusu is confident the Reds can climb from second bottom and mount a resurgence after grabbing an important away point from the Kiwis.

"Before the game against Phoenix we would have taken a point," Owusu said. "Now we have two home games so to take seven points from three starts will get us back on track."

The Reds could have midfield Fabian Barbiero, skipper Travis Dodd and Cassio available to confront Central Coast.

But Kristian Sarkies, grounded by a calf strain, is sidelined indefinitely.

The impression I've had of Dmac when he starts is that he's holding back a bit to make sure he can go the 90. Last match when he came on he seemed a lot more vigorous because he knew he only had 20 or so to do his job.
I was also happy with the way Nik worked from the start, so my preference would be to start Nik (thus helping to build his match fitness) and sub him with Dmac in the 2nd dig.

I hope we can have a look at Doig this Friday. Anyone know if he is playing/bench or out injured?

I am looking forward to seeing Porter move to midfield or the bench.
