ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

There should be salary cap concessions for players that come from your adademy/NYL setups, I think that's a no brainer.

There should also be salary cap concessions for players who are at your club for an extended period (maybe 5 years?). The tenure concessions could perhaps grow year by year so that you get to discount 20% in year 6, 40% in year 7, 60% in year 8, 80% in year 9 and 100% in year 10. Practical upshot would be that for example, Hutch and wouldn't cost us any cap space in his tenth year.

You should be able to reward clubs who have a development pathway and who are loyal to their players (and enable the club to reward those players for their loyalty).

I Understand the view point but it devalues a salary cap system. Although having marquees outside of that also does the same thing, so if you have marquees then yes I believe you should get those concessions.

However you could stock you team with 5 long time serving locals & then buy 5 top line players from other clubs when you probably should only have 3 of them.

Look at Manly in the NRL - Full of internationals but almost all came through the Manly system. They were nobodies when they begun.

Now they want an exemption for Stewart - Yet he is an Australian & NSW player - He is not past his used by date & it would be totally unfair for Manly to be able to pay him more outside the cap as it allows them to pay the other stars as well.

I personally take even comps over concessions.

If Hutch is good enough give him a spot & the cash he is due. If not then has to go to someone else. Means we don't have players playing past their used by dates. A true club man is some one the clubs wants for all his playing career not someone who can't play any where else. IMO

It's a reward for managing your club and developing your list vs clubs that simply head to the market to 'develop' their squads.

A practical reality of the loyalty bonus in a league like ours is that it won't apply to players who are really top-line players; frankly they're going to head overseas. It'll apply to good A-League performers who are good servants to their club and the league. They're the ones you build a club around and embody much of the story and the history of a club, but in our league, in large part the squad men are the ones that can't make the step up to Europe.

Nevertheless, it won't protect players from their use-by dates; if Hutch isn't worth $x, he won't get $x whether he's getting a concession or not and he's not affecting your cap whether you pay him his due or twice that or half that. You still have to hand over the money, whether it's inside the cap our not. If you can't justify paying $x he won't get it.

I'm not proposing we ditch the squad cap either, so any player has to still be worth a spot in your list because he's blocking someone else out.

On the development concession, that's a no-brainer too, and helps clubs hang onto their talented kids for a bit longer, allowing them to play first grade here for longer and then make the step up overseas. It'll mean clubs have a strong competitive incentive to drive a really strong NYL system and have good scouting and development structures below that, including strong links to NPL clubs. It means clubs can also offer players more to sign longer deals here, enhancing their prospects of getting a tasty transfer fee if the kids really are shit-hot.

do you think that a game being played at Brookie was a Mossie idea, given his history with Peninsula football

No unless he's a council member or has relo's who need to make the field look like it gets used so they can get government money for an upgrade.

Well done Phil Moss; I think he has earned this opportunity. I doubt he will be rushing off to overseas challenges any time soon. He is clearly making his mark on the Mariners; this season will tell a lot about his ability to realise his ambitions. I think we are in good hands.

Now we just need to extend John Crawleys contract....
I hope so but there was a story recently that he is training up Nash as his successor as goalkeeping coach with an eye to finishing his contract and returning to Sydney, possibly with You Know Who. Could easily be speculation adding 2 and 2 to make 5 but I agree, it would be very reassuring if he too extends his contract to continue working with Moss. He has been outstanding for us.

Yes.
I think he will be a decent coach but last year wasn't great....but we were shit under Arnie as well......I think he has what we need but maybe we should have waited 6 months before extending

Mossy is a work in progress. He's coached for a grand total of 24 A-League games, and he hasn't built his own team yet - he was coaching the patched up remains of Arnie's last side.

We'll learn a lot about him from the first few weeks of the 2014/15 season.

Until then, I'll reserve judgment on whether this is a good call.

In this video interview Moss it states we are the first A League club with an official scouting network.

Interesting.

I think him resigning is great for the club. He is clearly a great couch in the making and is better that most of the A League coaches.

Think he did great with what he had last year. We finished 3rd for goodness sake.
