Yes.
A definite pass mark so far.
Showed intelligence having Monty start on Sat and showed good man management in bringing on Hutcho early for the man who replaced him as Captain.

He is settling into the role really well. I think he found the transition to #1 from #2 harder than he... and we... may have thought. It's easier sitting next to Arnie suggesting what decision he should make, compared to sitting in the hot seat and having to make those calls himself.

I think he has now reached a point where he is confident in following his gut and we have a coach that isn't a liability... unlike Victory and Sydney... ironically the two biggest clubs in the league.

There's no doubt he can coach, but the next test is how he manages his roster... and our anxiety about who's coming and who's going.

The good thing about the Mariners is that Dutchy is presently being schooled in the Mariners football philosophy. When Mossy moves on (or under performs) we have a Plan B to turn to without having to go through the pain of the aforementioned Victory and SFC.

While he has been good so far this season the real test will be the ACL
Dont agree with this. His real test is competing with, and beating, A-league clubs. That's his bread and butter and that's the thing we as supporters, obsess about for 12 months of the year.

People have different opinions about the ACL and for me, it is a distraction. At this point in time, I dont really care about playing in the ACL... not until we have the financial means to compete with the rich overseas clubs. I dont see that happening for a very LONG time, and competing in the ACL this year isn't really going to get us to that goal.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
I was a bit concerned for the first couple of weeks of Mossys reign...yes, we were getting points, but the boys seemed to be doing it the hardest way possible...this procedure seems to be on the way out...as for man mangement..well, the smartest thing he ever did was give Monty the armband...it appears, this was proven v The Scum when Hutcho subbed for The General, Hutcho came on and the first thing he did was pass the bloody ball backwards and our shape went to shit...

I think people should realise .sterjo came off the same time as monty. This didn't
help the cohesion. Added to that caceres and macka ran out of legs.
At the same time

Moss has easily passed the test - just compare how the Mariners are travelling to Muscat's Victory or how the Roar coped with the loss of Ange. Just ask Alistair Edwards, GVE or John Aloisi where they would like to be right now. Muscat didn't have to cope with half the Championship side leaving, he has inherited a team that Ange built to chase the title. Moss has also had to contend with losing Clarky, McGlinchey and then Flores. It says a lot about the culture of the club that Moss's take over has been almost seamless.
The next three games are a real test of progress against three teams - Brisbane, Victory and Adelaide who all outclassed us first time round; my money says they won't be doing that again over the next three weeks.

. interesting viewpoint regarding man-management

. with the exception of a necessary injury replacement it was the earliest substitution i remember mossy making (not saying it hasn't happened but the trend has been for later replacements). it was a low risk strategy and particularly considering we were up 3-0 with half an hour to go

. i think what killed our momentum was the double change but this may also have been a 'test' considering the favourable circumstances. with zach pulling up early i hope that does not dissuade mossy from making early substitutions in the future particularly if the circumstances warrant

. with regard to how the man has gone generally ... i have said before that he has had to contend with more than arnie did during his reign - so it is a bit hard to fault him in that regard

. i have heard quite a few comments that people don't think he is the right man for us (although they are typically willing to see how the season goes) ... but the question i pose to them is - who is the right man? the lack of (top man) experience seems to be what most people are concerned about

. i don't think there would be much argument that both arnie and clarkie's replacements would be on a lesser 'package' than their predecessors ... and we are all aware of the club's reluctance to 'spend big'. i think that puts any alternatives into a real world perspective

. sure we can be critical of individual decisions (particularly in hindsight) ... but mossy has done pretty well so far methinks. hopefully he - and his team - continue to develop together ... and we see more success

I think Arnie's structure & stature have both hindered & helped.

He is starting to come out the other side without to much damage.

I was doubtful only a couple of weeks ago but he seems prepared to take a risk & try a player or bench a bigger rep guy.

I also think the team has become one that suits the way we play a little more.

Flores while great touch didn't quite fit, Duke is not a winger, Left CB now finally worked out

GK - Made the switch to Reddy - Right choice
Left CB - Sieve, then Griffiths because has left foot wasn't bad but didn't stick, Sieve again - Then finally Zac who looks alright - Backs finally look settled with Griffths first in if sign of problems
Left Wing - Lost McGlinchy - I reckon Fitzy was our best player in first couple rounds, disappeared under Mossy but now taken McGlinchy's spot - I reckon he will be one of our better plays on the run home & looks comfortable there.
DM - How do you shake up Monty & Hutch - Wait for Hutch to get suspended - He tried Caceras but not enough game time to mature & just isn't a DM - Changed the style abit due to no Hutch & no Flores & caceras looks like a good kid if managed correctly & given enough time. He will make a lot of mistakes & turn the ball over a bit as he gets used to the pass of 1st grade.
Right Wing - Has been a mess all year & Duke not the man for it - He has gone to the experience of Sterj who hasn't let him down & now has the option of either Ibini or Fitzy (I think prefers the left).
Strikers - Simon received no decent service early & was a headless chook. Finally getting some fitness & service & understading with the suppliers looking much better - Seems to be No1 over Duke & McBreen
Play maker - McBreen Looked ready for the glue factory two weeks ago now puts one in the top corner & with a more attacking Caceras we look better.

Has had to tinker anawful lot to find out who goes where but the team finally picks itself & he rewards them with the same 11 for probably the first time all year & bang 2 in a row.

I can see something on the horizon captain - It's back to back championships me matey (Maybe a little premature but looking better & only the roar look consistent right now).

ACL will stuff us up as we light on depth & don't want to run the current crop into the ground as the bench ain't look in the best.

No more injuries is the key as we have a good squad of 12-13 but not much more

Mossy is doing a great job. I was in the first team he coached and was impressed with all he did, although not all his decisions went my way! Confident he will go all the way. We will be lucky to have him for 2 or 3 years.

. obviously it is a bit early to say ... but on the face of it, it looks like mossy has done well the last few days

. we have all been stressed about how the 'squad' was looking with the closing of transfer windows, some more first team losses, no announcements and with the finals and ACL fast approaching. well that changed and changed quickly ... and yesterday he was heard saying that he hasn't had the chance to sleep much in the last couple of weeks and you can see why ... he has been a very busy boy

. despite the losses, it appears that we have signed some quality players ... and i can't remember saying that in jan./feb. before

. keep up the good work mossy!
