ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Absolutely - except only in the starting XI if playing two 6s or Rostyn playing CB.

I must be too old....number 6 was always a centre back in my day! Regardless, i understand that you are talking about a defensive middie.
Two questions.... 1. Why would you play two defensive middies?
2. Why would you play Rostyn at CB when he was excellent at DM this year?

Cheers.

Sorry - I was not very clear.

I was agreeing that Hutch is still HAL standard. However I wouldn't start him.

1) I would only play one DM.
2) I would bring Hutch in at DM if we were using Rostyn to cover injury for Patrick or Wilko

Cheers Pat.

I also agree that Hutcho has alot to offer as decent cover but is not starting 11 these days.

I'm sure that Rostyn would be a decent CB but i feel we lose too much when he doesn't play so would prefer a specialist CB to cover Wilko/Dutchy (not Sainsbury)

Hutcho will get a few games when Griffiths is injured or suspended anyway.

I also wonder about some people's obsession with 443?

I like two DMs in a 4-3-3.

I know you do but i'm not sure it works that well in reality rather than on paper.

We have played our best Football since season 1 with a 442 formation this season. We went away from that once this year and got spanked by Bris 5.1.

I'm not overly keen to move away from our strengths.

Bugger. Saw him at Erina Fair with his girl two days ago.
I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED TO SAY HELLO MAKE HIM FEEL MORE AT HOME!!!
:headbutt: :headbutt: :headbutt:
:ashamed:

Perez was quality and different from any player we've ever had.
We are strapped for cash...
Bit grim...
But we have Musty probably still coming back for one more season I think...
But if not we should get a fee we can spend on at least one decent AM and at least we save some money over the off season by releasing him now...

Realistically, we played a 4-1-3-2 this year, except when Perez was fit and we played a 4-1-2-1-2 (aka diamond 4-4-2).

We were better as a 4-1-3-2. Problem is our strikers have been too similar.

Not knowing who we've got coming to replace Mrdja, Perez and Doig I'd say at the moment I'd pair Griffiths with Hutch as two 6s.

This allows us to go to our real strengths - free up Bojic and Rose even further and loosen the bonds on Weemac and Olly. Amini at 10.

I'd be mighty tempted to play Bernie at 9, the kid's got something.

Moreover it gives a chance for either Hutch or Griffiths to inject themselves as an 8 from time to time - alter the mood of the game a little and change the pace. It's set up to soak and control but can very easily switch to pressing high and harassing.

Down the track Porter's maybe a perfect player for the schizophrenic 6/8/10 role - flexible, good passing, quick and can defend.

Apparently Graham is talking to a Spanish striker who is playing at a London club and has been unhappy there since he walked out on his former team. Saw a pic of him yesterday and I fair dinkum thoght it was a chick! Watched an older highlights reel of him when he played for his old club, and the bloke can score goals, I'll tell you what. :eek:verhead:

May be able to score goals, but you quote "since he walked out on his former team" I have to ask... is he one of these pompas stuck up kn0bs that can't handle it when they don't get their own way.... ala sack wacker style?? I would honestly prefer to keep looking rather than have someone in the squad that thinks their better than everyone else and unsettle the whole team vibe & ethic.NB: I have no idea who you are talking about, just making a few observations... hope I'm jumping the gun a little though!!

Don't they still have the "No Dickheads" policy at the Mariners?

Not surprised at the Perez departure, always wondered how he and his wife would be able to settle; I am more worried by Amini impressing at Borussia Dortmund :) Still, as I said previously, there is a very talented young Australian called Aaron Mooy who has lost his way in British football who is a great potential talent very similiar to Bozanic; superb techique, geat passer, two good feet, just needs the comforting arm of Uncle Arnie around his shoulders...

I can't say that I am not surprised by this. Patricio always looked uncomfortable when the fan days etc were on and I sensed that it was not right. I have lived in a foreign country with my family where English is not exactly the language of choice and it makes it very hard on the spouse. While I was comfortable in the environment the wife had a torrid time for the first six months.

As great a player as he has been I believe the club has done the sensible thing. It certainly saves on the wages side of things. Sorry to see him go and I wish him every success in future. It does create some interesting permutations with the squad now. Does Musti step into Patricio's role or does Arnold bring in someone else? On another not Bernie definitely needs to be playing up front next year.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
well....if he was homesick and couldnt adjust, then his better off heading home....i think we could all see what he brought to the team, but, if his heart wasnt here, then so be it...gracias Mi Amigo...good luck in the future

I wish Perez & his family well & thank him for his contribution to a marvellous season.

However,if we`re "cash strapped" & had Perez on contract for another year, wouldn`t it have been wiser to peddle him to another South American club & pocket some $$$$ for out of pocket expenses?

Not saying he has an ulterior motive for going home, but he is going to play for another team somewhere isn`t he?

So why not some compensation for letting us down?

Looks like Perez has been linked with Sporting Lisbon...
(For those who care about ex-Mariners Players)
If the rumour is correct I`m guessing he has "family" in Portugal
