I agree may seem not that bad to some, and plenty of noboddies can get away with doing it every weekend with no repurcussions.

HOWEVER, this highlights one aspect that was so unbelievable about the 4 Corners story and the follow-up interview with Johns: The NRL people still don't get it that their behaviour is being scrutinised and harshly judged... or, they don't care about the impressions of the media & public.

Forget the finer points of rape vs. consentual, legal vs. illegal... ANYTHING people judge to be immoral or out-of-line will be plastered all over the media and used against the NRL and/or the individuals in question. If they cared one iota about the future of their league and their individual careers they would not be acting without first thinking "how could this potentially be portrayed in the media"

+1, Floss. A lot of these professional sports people are so bloody single minded about themselves it's ridiculous. And that is across the board, from swimmers to cyclists, all football codes - you name it. And they also think that publicly humiliating themselves and offering a curt 'sorry' is often the cure to any wrong they may have committed. After all THEY said sorry!

If all professional sports people don't sit up and notice that things have changed in recent times, and that a few free tickets, a public humiliation and a 'sorry' won't cut it for criminal offences any more, then it's only a matter of counting the days down til one of them ends up behind bars for a decent stretch. The swimmer, Nick D'Arcy went very close I'm led to believe.

Cronulla forward Reni Maitua is reported to have tested positive to a recreational drug, and is poised to be stood down by the NRL.
The former Kangaroos lock is believed to have tested positive to a substance, believed to be cocaine or ecstasy, during a routine Australian Sports Drug Agency test about three weeks ago.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Cronulla chief executive Tony Zappia would meet Maitua's agent, Sam Ayoub, and legal counsel in Sydney, before a press conference was held later on Wednesday night.

The NRL is believed to have been informed of the positive test.

Maitua joined Cronulla at the beginning of the year after being sacked from the Bulldogs over a long history of off-field indiscretions.

though I can't find an article for it, Channel 7 news tonight said that a nightclub in the Corss has put a sign up over their front entrance that says "No NRL Players Allowed" and that it won't be taken down until the end of the season, as they don't any more trouble. lol

Can it get any worse for them? Really?
