ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

NRL Hooligans thread

In todays SMH both league and union bosses said the match is not likely. It was flagged by o'neill without talking to the ARU board. And the board, as well as NRL dismissed it. This is purely the promoter trying to get it back

Back on topic, I notice that a certain D Lockyer was drinking with Symonds when his latest "incident" occurred.

He sure does have unfortunate timing doeasnt he? Thats at least 2 "incidents" where he has just happened to be an innocent bystander.

Willie Mason from the SMH:

There is no loyalty. Good players are going to go if [the clubs] don't do the right things by you. It will be whatever suits the player. We're not really worried about fans or club loyalty because the clubs aren't loyal to the players if they aren't going that good. When the shoe is on the other foot, clubs are totally different. If you're playing shit, they throw you to the bush. It doesn't matter if you've been at the club for 10 years. Where's their loyalty to you? But if you're kicking arse, and are the grouse player in the comp and you want to go somewhere, they blow up. There's no loyalty. It's all crap. Players do what they want. They can choose to be loyal or they can go chase money and be happy."

Well.......... he might be a goon, but at least he's honest.  Says it all though.

NRL has gotten boring. Not even sure if I will actually go out of my way to watch any of the games next season. Especially when I can watch REAL football.

I never watch it.
So I would be interested to hear why and in what ways is it getting boring?

I feel it has gotten too soft, they can't even tackle somebody without it being over analysed (Was it too high, was it too hard, was it too much like a grapple???). Also, it seems like nobody is in it for the game anymore - no heart. Just money. And it just doesn't interest me anymore. I got into football & the mariners a few months back from this time last year, and during the off season, when NRL was on, I wasn't interested.

Whenever there's talk of introducing video replays in Football, they should take a look at how video replays has slowed down RL and American Football.

Also multiple adjudicators has slowed down RL with the video ref. and again for American Football. In RU there's a lot of stoppage of play while the ref adjudicates on ruck infringements or scrummaging technicalities, the stuff most spectators can't see too much of.

If you have one ref in the middle hopefully controlling the game, letting it flow, playing the advantage, all codes of football are more attractive to the spectators.

Sure, a fan of one club might yearn for a video replay  (like in last year's GF at SFS with Holland's hand ball), but the pluses and minuses of having video refs. or video replays tends to lean towards a slowing down of the match and less of an exciting game.

The fact Football has only what? 17 steadfast rules and a booklet of interpretations rather than a complete Law and Regulations Encyclopaedia, also lends the game to a more flowing spectacle than the RL or RU code of football.

The other thing to consider about RL and RU is that because they have physical contact intrinsic to their game, they have to be very articulate about how that contact is made lawfully, so that the game itself doesn't end up being sued by players with permanent disabilities. In other words, the OH& S angle nowadays has to be factored into the legal way to play the game.

So does Football, but because we have steered clear of allowing full on physical contact from the start, the risk of snapping someone's neck is less likely and is now fundamentally an advantage we can enjoy. RL and RU have to stop play and award free kicks for illegal tackling and their game now suffers.

As medical evidence mounts and the possibility of litigation attacking out of date rules, their games will inevitably end up looking closely like the American Football we know today, or ruling less contact and evolving into something like Gaelic Football or AFL.

Just my 2c worth, folks may differ in opinion to me on this.

But we never cared about the OH&S repercussions. It is all Americas fault for introducing the trend of suing everyone. But footballers KNOW the risk of injuries.

But yes, clarence, I agree with what you say :D

Look up Rogers vs. Bugden in the NSW Supreme Court Law Case Books if you have a chance, and you'll see why the NRL is very careful about the grapple tackle and any illegality. Hence the video review panel, grades of offences, stipulated sentences for certain offences, directions to all about what constitutes a legal tackle, blah blah.....

I am not a fan of this thread as we have enough problems in our own backyard.

I am reliablely informed that Scott Jamieson incurred a Parking Fine

As if this wasn't enough he then made light of the situation through the use of sarcasm when stating "Scott Jamieson Loves Parking Fines !!on Friday" on his facebook page.

For shame :naughty:

So the last ten or so posts of this thread are now debating the rules of NRL... does that tell you something? The "hooligan" element in the code is on it's way out and the act is being cleaned up.

Or its the offseason and they are all hibernating, because their is no point in stirring up a story now when no one cares.

No, they are all back in pre season training so are being good. I am quite confident that we will soon be enjoying their antics very soon.

Just be patient

In Greg Bird's case, the Police have already dropped the most serious charge of deliberately inflicting harm on Miss Milligan. The Police are going after a much less serious charge if reckless endangerment against him, which there appears to be incontrovertible evidence of.

The fact that he had a glass in his hands and threw it anywhere NEAR a female is reprehensible, but News Ltd's massive beat-up of the case is more that Bird has transgressed so many times before and Cronulla-Sutherland RLFC finally decided that Bird had to go.

I reckon Mason will play well for the mighty Roosters this year. He hasn't many years left, after all.

Big Tip for the first Rugby League controversy that actually occurs in 2009; sadly, Broncos players in trouble in the Valley, again.

Yeah she did, she's defending him to the hilt. Idiot.

In what I saw was a big shock, The long time leader of the Broncos, Wayne Bennett, has taken the reins at the Dragons.
