Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

No chance of silverware till we learn how to defend

Danny hasn't got the experience of Bozza theres no doubt, but he is still a very good keeper despite his Lapses in concentration and positioning sometimes. e doesnt kick it out as much as some, in the Last match up against Sydney there keeper knocked out at least 4 in one half.
As for coming off the line i think he is more selective when to do that due to past experiences.

Danny is still young and learning. He was to blame for the one goal last night. He is learning when to come out and when not to. However, if you are to make a play for the ball you must go for it at 100%. He didn't do this and will hopefully learn from it.

Yep, once you commit, carry it through. You usually have no time to 2nd guess as a keeper.

Its a cruel sport mate. No chance of this bit I'd love to see him return to the yellow and navy.

Tommy cant be replaced

End of really

hmm - time will tell but I would be interested to know over the 3 years how many games he actually started rather than came of the bench.

Don't get me wrong I wish he were still here but I think sometimes we look at it with yellow coloured glasses - fact is you can't have both Tommy and Gumps as supersubs and thats how Lawrie played him last season....

I may be alone here but to me Danny's reflexes aren't as sharp as they could be. I think he has to accept a fair share of the responsibilty though us he is the last stop.

Get out.

P.S.  In the opinion of many, he is one of the Top 3 players to have ever pulled on the yellow and blue.  To quite a lot within said many, he is the best player this club has ever had, and letting him go was a foolish mistake that we have been paying for ever since - the mere thought of Tommy and Caceres on the field at the same time is just

I think Lawrie wanted to use him in a bit-part role, but he forced himself into the reckoning with great performances.

There's no doubt we miss Tommy P. Caceres has been a good replacement, if slightly less consistent and mature. That will come with age and game time.

As for the defence, it was working pretty well against an on song Qld in the first half. We lost a lot when we lost Ossie. No one in the team seemed to be able to win a tackle or interception, and Qld's ball-playing ability was eventually going to tell with that much possession and field position. Mile was conspicuous by his absence, as expected.

Our worst player on the day happened to be marking their best player on the day. The left hand side was going to be weaker with Mrdja not coming back as much as Simon, leaving space for Minniecon to receive the ball deep and run at Heff. That's bad news any day of the week.

Danny had a rare glitch that you might expect a young keeper to have more of (ie Tando Velaphi) and it was unfortunate that it came in an important match where we lost by the odd goal.

So it was definitely poor, but I'm interested to hear people's suggestions as to what to do at this stage of the season. It seems a bit to be reinventing everything now, and we'd defended well for 5 weeks before that.

If Ossie is OK, I think Porter should stay in at right back. Brad showed he is capable in midfield, but even though we all called for him to go to midfield earlier in the season, I think he has improved immensely and grown into the RB position. Some consistency in the back four is required.

I also think Wilko's form has been the driver of our improved defence and good run leading up to Saturday's match. Even if you disagree, and you don't think he's in our best four defenders at the moment, surely you'd see the vote of no confidence in dropping your leader would be too destabilising with two weeks to finals.

The other players who can come in are Boogs and Clarky. So you've got Heff, Pedj and Clark as left back options, and Pedj, Boogs and Clark as CB options. What's the winning combination?

At this stage of the season all I can hope for is that LM & Tobin can sort it out otherwise we will struggle to make the finals ... we can score but we need to defend ... as I see it to the mids are not hlping as much as they should ... LM & Tobin are experienced so they can sort it out ... saying this more out of hope but we can dream.

Classic 442 is probably best for us as we go into the final 2 rounds.

Danny
Pedj Wilko Boogs Heff
Porter Osman/Gumps Adrian Hutch
Nik Dylan

Matty could play RM if needed but would be a waste

I couldnt drop D Mac and they dont play well together.

Matty and Nik with D Mac at LM - possibly

No they are all similar types of target men Mrdja has to go and be replaced with a smaller more creative front man who will compliment the big guys

Nik back to full fitness is possibly the best striker in the HAL - if we make the finals, he should just about be at match sharpness.

Our secret weapon?

I've always rated Mrdja, his quality strike v Wellington last season shows what he's capable of.

However, I always liken him to Mick Ferguson- hard to stop when fully fit and firing, which is more not than often.

They cant play 3 up top because it leaves us (without Mile) to vulnerable.
LM needs to revise his formation, when any team looses a player with the qualities of Mile they will struggle. They can't keep banging balls up front and expecting results.
Time for the hard decisions!!
