I was just told that there were 3 players out.

No overage players were allowed to play. :naughty:

Doesnt help either that the club realeased them anyhow.

We had Sherlock, Gianaros and Griffins out, these young blokes would have made a difference but we will never know now ???

lol, like most competitions, players have to play a minimum amount of games for that team to play in the semis, and for us, unfortunately the only players to qualify were dmac and huke who are now not with the club

Mmm, Huke was our best on field last week I thought and was sorely missed today.

Panni was back to his usual quality in a losing side I thought. Much better performance today - our mom for mine.

But really 99% of the time out of a game if you go two behind your gone... They did well to claw back in - but the pace of the GCU midfield looked simply far too much for them in the first half.

Looking at it, I think we tactically got this one wrong.. or perhaps they got it right.

More leadership at the back required. Mids seemed over run as said, and we lacked numbers in attack compared to normal, though that said I often felt we needed to release the ball quicker in attack while we had Bernie 1 v 2 instead of waiting and often turned into 2 v 5 or 6.

Bernie was marked out of the second half. Positioned too wide and too deep to be his most effective I thought.

Anyhow... Gold Coast played well and deserved the win. But we were the best team over the season. Fantastic result for the club and team.

Also...

"Superstar, your having a laugh?" And what was it... "what's it like to play for a crowd or some such" were both quality chuckles.

Playing Brady Smith at RB still has me baffled............

actually didn't do that bad a job on minnehcon (sic)

just couldn't offer anything going forward

our midfield was excellent bar fitzgerald - don't know what was wrong with him but looked flat all game and could have had a couple of decent strikes on goals if he was on his toes

another day we would have tore them a big one

Does anyone know how many of this years squad are able to be in NYL next season? and when are they usually signed up?

My first NYL game this year; really enjoyed it despite the result. Their first goal owed a lot to the Mariners ACL defending of set pieces, GC player completely unmarked for free header. Thought we came back well but never quite threatened to get back - they also hit the bar and the post so were good value for their win. Our defence was a bit static - with twin towers it was lacking mobility; midfield were collectively good on the ball but collectively hopless at defending. It makes you wonder if FIFA's worldwide campaign against physical contact is having an effect at youth level. Up front Bernie was a tough assignement for GC and mallia was too quick
Ryan 6 - had no chance with the goals but didn't live up to the hype of the next big thing in goalkeeping. No presence, unconvincing.
Smith 6 - "not a full back' seems to be a regular thing at CCM. Clearly has skills, is quick enough, is feisty but his vision limited to about a 10 metre radius.
Ormsby 6 - commited strong and brave and passes the ball out from defence but, unlike Smith, his vison means he likes to pass the ball no less than 40 metres each time!
Liddall - 6 thought he was going alright until completely misjudges mpass for the third goal which killed the game off.Thought he was well balanced composed, decent on the ball and had good positional sense
Kalouris 7 - for my money left backs are the nutters of football so if you want to be good you have to be different; Kalouris has a bit of a crazy streak in him which will stand him in good stead. Is quick, skilful, aggressive and competes well.
Lewis - 7 started on the right which nullified his skills but switched to the left with good effect later. Very composed and inventive on the ball
Nikas 7 - has incredible self confidence and a sureness of touch to match. Can control the ball in an  instant in any situation. Milked the penalty but his skill gave the ability to do so. One sublime chip over the defender for Smith was the pass of the game. Showboats too much occasionally when the simple option is the better choice.
Fitgerald 5 - started ok but faded, took the wrong option too often
McGinley 6 - The most physical of the midfielders, has good awareness of what is happening around him
Bernie 7 - A real crowd pleaser, runs all day and very brave, was a real handful for the GC defenders. Good, if unconventional touch; needs to take up better positions but better service to him would have helped. He could make it or he could fail but he certainly won't die wondering
Mallia 8 - When you go to a youth game you hope to see something special. You hope to sdee a player who will be a star of the future. Mallia could be that jewel. He is hellishly quick, has good touch in both feet, can play either flank and works hard. GC couldn't hold him.

On only one showing I would say that I would be surprised if Smith is offered a contract; I think Liddall and Kalouris might make the grade. Nikas should but may never reach the heights, Bernie is a real rough diamond who is worth persevering with but Mallia is the jewel.

Over heard a suit bragging about how much money they managed to save by moving the game to pluim yesterday. Haven't seen the guy before, guessing he was from FFA as he was "the one in charge".

Good summation RL.

As a member of the crazed LB Union, I like Jerry K as well. tough little nugget of a player and worth keeping hold of.

Smith is worth persevering with, ditto Bernie. Lewis already signed, as is Ryan.

Fitzgerald is still v young as are a few others.

Be interesting to see how they go in the winter comps and who is back next season

No one can confirm this for me, but I'm fairly sure every player has to be U20 on 1/1/10 to be eligible for next year. This year there were concessions for three U21 players, but I'm fairly sure that's wiped out next year.

That said, the FFA seem unable to make their mind up so it could change. Even Stefan (our Director of Football) couldn't confirm it for me last week at Pluim.

Great summary Roy law. Accurate and enjoyable!

I agree about Mallia, I was disappointed when he came on for us he didn't seem to ever get going as I have seen the same energy and promise from him you talked of in other yoof games also.

Good on em for getting the premiership, and making it this far. Was a good season for them. We'll just need to go one step further next season :)

and BTW the ref was awful. 8 yellows? taking lessons from 'Hallmark" Breeze.

Refs were told to clamp down in the NYL after the Sarkies incident (double leg break, Perth player not booked) and the tackle in our recent game v.s. you where your player should've gone off for a similar lunging tackle.
NYL games have typically been even rougher than HAL games, expect that to change a bit next year as a few sides had some big injuries in NYL this year.
