That's a hell of a good report!

Thanks, Ray is a very experienced football mind.

We host Gold Coast as they draw 1-1 in Adelaide, and Smurfs go out on goal difference. Other semi Glory host the Adelaide.

Great, more Fold Coast loathing. Brown will have to be watched and they may stack their side with seniors too.

Cheats, stacking their yoof team with OA's

;-)

I think it kinda is cheating when you're playing for a finals place and Djulbic has nothing to play for.

:pirashoot: Go and support the young blokes to help them at least bring home something for our club. This might be the last time you see these young men play for your club the next might it may be against CCM.

Well all except the ones who are already signed you mean.

There will always be a high degree of turnover in a youth squad.

Try looking on the positive side a bit :)

Mariners Youth set for semi-final showdown

Football Federation Australia has confirmed the Central Coast Mariners National Youth League semi final against Gold Coast United will take place this Saturday, 13 March at Pluim Park, Lisarow. Kick-off will be at 4:00pm ADST.

The Mariners finished the National Youth League season as Premiers, finishing with 44 points, one clear of second placed Perth Glory, and enter the finals series on the back of a scoreless draw with Sydney FC in the final round.

Over 700 fans flocked to Pluim Park to support the side in their final regular season match of the season, and Mariners members and supporters are urged to show their support again this weekend.

Weve had great support all year from the local fans both at Bluetongue Stadium and at Pluim. The boys are desperate to qualify for the Grand Final with a win on Saturday, and theyd love nothing more than doing it in front of a huge home crowd, said Mariners National Youth League head coach Tony Walmsley.

The winner of Saturdays semi final will qualify for the 2009/10 National Youth League Grand final, where they would take on the winner of the other semi final between Perth Glory and Adelaide United, on the same day as the Hyundai A-League Grand Final, in a double header at Melbournes Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 20 March.

Be sure to sit near Bernie's mum for added bias commentary. I'd almost consider going up just to listen to her again if this wasn't so close to our game later that night.

Expect the ref to cop abuse when  Bernie is fairly robbed of the ball. In the event Bernie is actually fouled, be prepared for a good torrent of abuse, and various devil references.

NYL:  Uniteds youngsters ready for semi-final action

GOLD Coast United Youth face their most important match of the season this Saturday when they take on National Youth League Premiers, Central Coast Mariners Youth, in a sudden death semi-final at Pluim Park, Lisarow

Uniteds youngsters finished the regular season on the same points tally as fifth-placed rivals Sydney FC, but sneaked into fourth place on the ladder thanks to their superior goal difference.

Having made the Finals Series at the eleventh hour thanks to Tahj Minniecons equaliser against Adelaide United Youth last Sunday, Head Coach Mike Mulvey says his side must now make the most of the opportunity and keep their Grand Final dream alive.

Our goal was to make it into the Finals Series and weve done that, Mulvey said.

I have every faith in these players; they understand that they are being prepared for life as professional footballers and part of that is being able to perform on the big stage and learning how to win.

Getting to the Semi-Final was is part of that and obviously making it to the Grand Final is the biggest stage we have in the National Youth League, so our aim is to get there and perform well.

Our philosophy has always been to play attacking, entertaining football and we have stuck to that because we believe in it.

"Were the highest goalscorers in the National Youth League and Im very proud of that fact because it shows what an attacking team we are.

We have the second highest scorer in the NYL in our striker Chris Harold and there are a number of players in this team who can score goals for us, so we have every reason to go into the game with confidence.

After securing the point they needed to cement a spot in the top four, Mulvey said the mood in the dressing room last weekend was more pragmatic than celebratory, with the players chomping at the bit for finals action.

Uniteds youth mentor declared this as a mark of his sides single-mindedness and determination to get the job done against the Mariners.

Mulvey said: After the match last week all they wanted to know was who we were facing in the semi-final.

There is an eagerness about them and that is a very good sign because it shows we are gathering momentum as we head into the finals.

Im very proud of the players and they are hungrier than ever to do well at the weekend. They have always responded to what weve asked of them and are eager to learn.

We will play with tactical shape and apply what we work on in certain parts of the field, but ultimately we will play to win and have a right good go at it.

Last weeks goalscorer Tahj Minniecon and architect James Brown are both eligible for the tie and will take their place in the side, along with no nonsense defender Zac Anderson who is set for a return from the hip injury that has sidelined him for a fortnight.

The winners will progress to the National Youth League Grand Final and face either Adelaide United Youth or Perth Glory Youth in the seasons showpiece match next weekend.
