National Youth League Fixtures and Mariners youth team discussion

I thought the ref was hopeless, a mini brawl broke out in back play, he kept looking over and let play go on.

When the ball went out, he had a v quick word with the wrong player and did nothing. The foul by the GC player that started the handbags was a dreadful tackle and if the lad hadnt been on a yellow already, he would have called it.

The guy had no grip on the game whatsoever.

Jaza, that "lunge" was just a tackle that was a bit late and the SFC player jumped (wisely) making it look terrible. I'm not sure there was contact, I think the fall hurt him.

Poor technique rather than deliberate

and BTW the ref was awful. 8 yellows? taking lessons from 'Hallmark" Breeze.
Refs were told to clamp down in the NYL after the Sarkies incident  ....
NYL games have typically been even rougher than HAL games, expect that to change a bit next year as a few sides had some big injuries in NYL this year.
Yeah, but he carded two who shouldn't have been, didn't card 3 who should, and there should have been two second yellows on Brown and Topalovic. I was sitting with an ex FIFA accredited referee and he was muttering all sorts of words under his breath about the guy. I gave him 5/10 only 'cos he turned  up, in the rain like, and didn't actually turn the game on its head, as even against 9 men at that stage I think we would have lost it.

Must confess it was nice to be in a stand where the "advice" to the officials was up close and very personal.

Think Mick is off his Xmas card list

:)

nice to be at a game and give the opposition players/ref advice and not worry about how it comes across on radio

Noticed Lawrie & GA at the game Saturday & they didn't look best pleased with what they were seeing. May not be too many yoofs getting game time higher up next season.
Also glad to see GA is a "battler" (a la Tony Abbott) like the rest of us - he & his daughters drove away in his "second-hand Merc" after the game :)

Told you he was quality Jaza ;D
That last game against SFC was one of the poorest I've seen him play.
He's got an assurance on the ball usually lacking in players till much older, good vision, good feet, good strike... Well worth the plaudits!

Sign please CCM.

I am not convinced.......... yet.

Need to really amp up his speed of thought and decrease the amount of time he spends on the ball.

May not be the case with him but these qualities can sometimes never be attained.

He is actually a tad older than the rest.

. yep i realise that (ineligible for youth next year i believe ???), but that is why i was asking ... we have apparently already signed 5 players eligible for youth to first team contracts

. the squad is filling and there can't be too many more spaces for relatively young, inexperienced 'potentials' ... what does it all mean?

I liked watching Panni play but is a bit slow sometimes I would rather they sign Mitchell Mallia to a long term contract he is 18 heaps of ability and fast, just needs a bit more time. And then sell him.(thinking like the COE sales manager now)

They are cheap. Leaves more money under the cap for experience players. Melbourne do something similar and so did Brisbane.

According to an article I saw on 442 this morning, it all means that CCM have let Panni go.

. that's what i was leading to

. i wonder what this is doing to our reputation ... letting our player of the year go (salary demands aside) and grabbing a bunch of other 'potentials' from elsewhere for 1st team contracts whilst (apparently) neglecting the claims of some existing squad members

. interesting 'pathway' we are offering
