Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

NYL squad had a get together today, very few names other than

Brady Smith
Matt Lewis
Nathan Sherlock

11 other signed players and 5 triallists

Note that SFC signed a CC junior  -wonder if we had a look at him?

Matters not where they come from but how they fit into and compliment the team dynamics I guess.

No Matthew Lewis. Does this mean he will get a senior gig?

Some very tall defenders there and enough ethnic names to keep some people on the forum happy.

Interesting to see that (aside from the Spirit and Coast players) they're all NSWPL players. Good sign, but does anyone know if these boys are regular starters?

"With Matthew Lewis, were hopeful hell get a first team spot, and that would give us two spots to fill, if not, if we get to keep Matt, that would be great because hes a great player, and then wed have one spot to fill, said Walmsley.

form here: http://www.ccmariners.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=28167

is he good enough ??

So, where's the headline "Eleven Sydney boys sign with the Mariners??"

Mind you, it makes the building of an academy seem like a very brave thing to do if there is so little talent on the Coast.

quite the opposite - it makes the building of an academy even more necessary

I've heard around the traps that CCMs youth team is put together much better than last year so far. Will be interesting to see.

could not be much worse but at least there are some youth internationals in there

assistant coach damian brown was talking up mitchell mallia on this morning's coast-fm's sports show and said he would be pressing for first team appearances

i still have question marks over the coach though

That's true - was a ragtag bunch last year. Any idea of the retention rate?

I've heard some positivity about him.

only matthew lewis, nathan sherlock and brady smith have survived

thought glen triffiro might have been worth another season

Trifiro had a run or two with us recently - don't think he's been picked up for our side.

Am looking forward to the NYL season tbh. A few sides will have solid retention policies (like QLD, who came 3rd with a really young squad), whilst others are starting quite fresh (like SFC and CCM - for differing reasons). Am looking forward to seeing how they go in that regard.

National call up for youth star

Central Coast Mariners National Youth League star Brendan Griffin has won a call up to the Australian Under 19s national squad, for the ASEAN Football Federation Under 19s Youth Championship, to be held in Vietnam between Tuesday, 4 August and Wednesday, 12 August.

Griffin, National Youth League head coach Tony Walmsleys first signing for the new campaign, has won a call up, and will link up with his teammates for the trip to Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow.

Its great news for a great young boy, Im sure hell do his country proud, and myself and all the boys wish him the best of luck, said Walmsley.

I brought him to Spirit FC two years ago to allow him to focus on his studies, and hes an intelligent kid, finishing his HSC a year early.

The 18 year old hails from Coalcliff, near Wollongong, and first worked with Walmsley as a 12 year old at Parramatta Eagles, through the Manchester United academy.

After representing New South Wales and the NSW Academy of Sport, Griffin headed overseas, where he impressed in trials with English Premier League club Bolton, and the Mariners sister club Sheffield United, before returning to link up with Walmsley again, in the Mariners assault on the second season of the NYL.

I couldnt believe it when I received the call, I was just concentrating on getting prepared for the National Youth League, but now its come, I cant wait to get over there, said Griffin.

Obviously a few nerves, but once I meet up with the boys and (Australian Youth coach) Jan (Versleijen), Im sure theyll go, and Ill be concentrating on the job at hand.

Australia has been grouped alongside Cambodia, Singapore and Thailand in group A, and begins its campaign against Singapore on Tuesday night.

The top two teams from each of the two groups qualify for the semi finals, with the final to be played on 12 August.

Australia has an impressive record in the tournament, being crowned champion in 2006 and 2008.
