What i dont understand how you can defend a player hitting a referee.

You called for Griffo's head (and rightly so) but now you flip-flop on Vukovic.

Regardless of why, Vukovic took a swipe at the referee, 1 year suspension.

Guys, ease up - NewieUtd is one of the very few decent Jets fans, be as nice as you can to him with all this emotion flying around.

NewieUtd - bear in mind all of us are incredibly cut up about this, just be careful of what you say for now, cool??

so when is Shield getting his 15 month suspension???  :redcard:

btw if saso gets anything at all i will dead set flip cos that will prove that FFA have f**king double standards in punishing mariners every chance they get and try to make themsleves look big and tough unlike what happened earlier with griffo  :naughty:

FFA are making this league the laughing stock of Australia...oeople who follow ruggers etc will look at this and lughwhen they see that we hand out 15 month bans for giving "high fives" to the refs for having such etraordinary good games  ::)

also wtf are the mariners (the club) being investigated for indiscretions as well???  ???

a) Vukovic deserves what he got, you cant say because someone makes a mistake that you have the write to take a swipe at him. Any attempt to justify his actions are stupid and biased.

b) Griffo should have got the same, but, he was saved by FIFA rules. I would not have defended him
You need to f**k off from this site NOW you lowlife.

if FFA wanted to show that they had control and set a good example they would've punished griffiths but they just stood behind the whole yellow card excuse saying their hands were tied...utter bullshit and as a result now they've learnt from this and i have a funny feeling sash is next on their list to be made an example of

heck im pissed right now...mariners are always on the recieving end of bullshit from FFA

FFA couldn't do anything. They would have been absolutely roasted by FIFA.

^^ Sadly, he's right.
And he's also correct in his statement, which WAS pretty unbiased.

But regardless, f**k this, WHY oh WHY do we need to be made scapegoat for everything!?

with incompetent refs and decisions over here, it's no wonder football (soccer for those who dont know) isn't liked much here.
and what a surprise... it's the same thing again.
I don't mean just the suspension.. Danny deserves one - the length of it - that's the joke.
Griffiths not getting one for a sack punch - even bigger joke.

It's literally a hate crime that the FFA have against us.
We try and make a name for ourselves but we aren't allowed to in their eyes.
FFA are spawns of satan.
I wouldn't bother entering their building without a torch and pitchfork.

Petrovski wouldn't be the first to be stung by video after the event. Jade North last year missed the prelim final, tiatto this year game 1, Mcflynn for sydney also this year.

Makes me wonder whether or not there will be an appeal. I know if it was me, an appeal would surely be occuring.
To be cited under "violent conduct" requires "excessive force" - there is no way that Danny's actions resulted in excessive force! Don't get me wrong, I dont condone his actions, but as someone with a legal background, the punishment has to fit the crime - not just be used as a deterrent for other players!  :naughty:

Because the FFA are too damn f***ing lazy to protest themselves to FIFA, if they think they'll be in the s*** creek without a paddle - too scared they might not beat England to hosting the World Cup.

NEWS FLASH - we won't regardless.

Fair posts mate. Don't worry, some of us think so.

The biggest travesty of all of this is, surprise surprise, Matthew Breeze. If this is the punishment that fits this offence, which is heart-breaking right now but...you can't touch a ref...then that means Matthew Breeze decided a 15 month crime was only worth a yellow card. If that was the case, how did the FFA give him another game this season?

Or they could have quite easily said that the yellow was for verbal dissent, that the sackwhack wasn't noticed at the time, and banned him.

And that would have been us crowned champions yesterday.

So which is it FFA? Do you reward the most incompetent f**k of a referee by sending him off to FIFA World Cup camps? Or were you too chicken shit back then but not now for some reason?

Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has described Danny Vukovic's altercation with referee Mark Shield late in Sunday's A-League grand final as 'stupid' but expects the young Mariners keeper to learn his lesson from his moment of madness.

Vukovic was given a red card by Shield for physically remonstrating with the experienced referee after a handball by Newcastle's James Holland went unnoticed in the penalty box. The resultant penalty would have given the Mariners a chance to equalise and push the game into extra time.

A sustained charge of violent conduct against a match official carries anything from a ban of a year to a life ban and the Mariners keeper faces a nervous wait to learn of his fate.

Verbeek said Vukovic, who would be first-choice stopper for the Olyroos in August's Olympic Games, had acted foolishly but that his inexperience had played a part in his actions.

"I think that's one of the things players have to learn. It's stupid, there's no doubt about that. We can be honest about that. He should have never done that," Verbeek said.

"He should have never done it of course, but hopefully he will learn from it and hopefully every player can learn from it because you can not accept things like that as a professional football player."

But Verbeek said he wouldn't view any lengthy suspension as a black mark on 22-year-old Vukovic, as long as he showed genuine remorse and learned from his mistake.

"If he was 30 years old I would say yes, but he is still a young guy. I've learned that he is a very professional player. He always wants to go maximum and he wants to win, which is of course very good. But there are limits between willing to win and behaviour. I think he will learn. I think he just had a very bad night," he said.

Football Federation Australia is yet to rule on the incident, but under its national disciplinary regulations any intentional physical contact with a referee is viewed very dimly. The penalty range is from one year to life.

Portuguese player Joao Pinto was suspended for a total of six months for punching a referee in the stomach during the 2002 World Cup, but that was under FIFA regulations.

Also, Danny has said he is pretty keen on a move overseas. Can anyone confirm if this is a worldwide club ban? I assumed it would be, but then read that they are still considering whether to extend it to national team duties...surely a ban is a ban?

If he is able to play overseas, that was his last match for us, at least for now.

He could go to our new partnership club Sheffeild United on loan and then come back later while we take Van Stratten for a loan, if its not a worldwide ban.

You can't strike the offical and not expect any punishment, as I posted previously Di Canio only got 8 games for the push that knocked the ref over, plus 3 for the original sent off so 6 months seems very excessive. I woukd hope that the CCM appeal and he gets a reduced 3 months + 9 suspended to meet the FIFA 1 year minimum ban.
Otherwise that's v4 down the pan as it means we will either have Trott for the 1st 14 rounds or will have to limit the outfield squad numbers and sign another keeper!
On the bright side at least Danny will be back for the ACL!
What a shitty end to a great season!

The ban either has to be FIFA wide or not at all............. what's the f*ckin' point of the rule if it's not??

I suggest we try to offer danny all the support we can give him over these next few hard months for him, he is going to need it. What the FFA is doing to the mariners is horrible, but we have to be the stronger team, and the victor in this war and that means going to all mariners home games in increased numbers, I still want to chant about Danny whether he is there or not before the game, still have banners supporting him. This will send a message to him to hang in there keep fit and keep working with JC and the train on squad and on that day when he returns, the bay will go nuts. But we do have to also support our new keeper over these few months the same way we would with Danny. Though if he goes overseas I wouldnt be surprised, I would want to wish him all the best wherever he goes and let him know that he will always be remembered on the coast
