I think the people who dont like the idea of set seats are not looking at the big picture, or looking at it the way the club and FFA are.

Big picture for marinators: we get to know more and more people in the bay as there wont be blow ins and nobodys who dont sing or get involved. Litteraly get to know the bloke next to you. We have to spread forwards and sideways because more and more people want to get involved.

Big picture for club and FFA: Probably safety is the main thing. Less crowding, less chance of injury

Id like to hear, from those people who go there, what the other supporters groups on their forums think?

I know Melbourne are going crazy on theirs.

This is happening to every club isn't it?

Yes it is happening to all clubs.

Do you mean crazy in a bad way or good?

I would prefer to see concession/student prices in the Bay, but have each of those prices $20 higher than the Blue prices.

That would keep people out who couldn't care less, yet still cater for the students etc.

In saying that, we've landed with the next best solution, because imo $18 (approx) a game still isn't much to pay, especially when you can now do a payment plan. One away trip to Sydney can cost $100 after travel, ticket, food and beer, so $190 for your seat all season, a bunch of trinkets, access to things, and priority rights to finals and ACL matches is a bargain.

I have a gold family membership and so do 5 or 6 mates all around the same area. There is nearly always a few who can,t make it for one reason or another so we just pass the tickets on to other friends when available. My Mrs doesn,t go that much so we give her ticket to various friends over the season. If someone wants to go and we have no spares we just buy a ticket as close as possible to our seats and then shuffle around to suit ourselves. We don,t often sit in our own exact seats anyway..........ie line the kids up in the row in front so the dads can clip them round the ear when required!! ;D

Remember most games will be nowhere near sell outs.Once you,re in there you,ll be able to more or less move around as you want.

I think its a little naive to think we will be able to come and go as we please without question. The FFA have implemented this and the stadium and the Mariners will be enforcing ti just like they enforce Platinum seating.
Many of us have moaned and bitched about the emos, blow ins and bandwagoners since day 1 and we now have a solution(granted it does not suit all) so I for one will embrace it and try and get as many old marinators, new marinators to join and get stuck in.

Let's look a this with some perspective for a minute...

When you consider that we have 1 PSC game against Sydney! Derby!

We are $15.83 per game and you get 12 games! The Bay Membership works out at $15.83 a game. A reserved seat AS WELL!

This is the first season Memberships have gone up since we formed! 4th season, 1st price increase. Wouldnt be too many sporting clubs Members out there, in our or any code, which could claim that?

My prediction: Forum agrees after Rnd 2 against Sydney FC with a half-empty Bay 16: Bring back the blow-ins!

Fact is reserved seating will suit us in the long run. It had to come in some time, and there will be teething problems. This year will be the worst year for it. Within 3 years everyone who gets these seats now will be laughing while others scramble to get on waiting lists to be near bay 16. Pricing could have been done better imo but i'm sure there are fair reasons for what they have done. Overall we're going to have to get over some speed humps for a long-term gain.

agree brett,

personally I cant see us selling the entire bay out this season but going forward I dont see why not if we provide a great atmosphere and a want to be involved well be right.
really comes down to what we make of it this year

Sydney were doing this last season weren't they?

they started in the second season.

there are some in the melbourne (and presumably in mini-melbourne too) who are complaining bitterly about the whole reserved seating shebang, but when it comes down to it their hardcore peeps will be in roughly the same spot every week. those who aren't HardKore (wiv a K) won't want to be there. their support will condense and in doing so it will distill and become stronger. so it goes.

we've discussed this issue on this forum and the old one as well a number of times before, after season one it was pretty well written off if i recall, but since then a number of issues have shifted attitudes somewhat.

pricing isn't great, i'd rather they kept the concession rates etc. and moved the general price up to silver member level.

why? because that way people are choosing to make a commitment to the bay and with luck they'll put their mouths where their money is.

We have a 20,000 seat stadium. With a crowd of say between 8,000 and 12,000 they,ll look at your ticket on the way in and that will be it.You will be able to sit wherever you like if thats what the majority want to do.We,ve been doing that in the gold section since V1.They look at your membership once on the way in and never again even after going to the bog or for beers etc.Because everyone around you has their "own" seat you get to know everyone,if you didn,t already and so everyone just rocks up shows their ticket to get in and then sits wherever they want within reason. Obviously if someone insists on their exact seat fair enough but thats not what I,ve found where we sit.
I would imagine most of you guys in the bay would know each other and once in wouldn,t give a toss if you were in that seat or this...would you?I mean you,ll be standing and jumping etc anyway.........wont you??

Out of curiosity I checked out season ticket prices for my Scottish club DUFC in the SPL.
Not one of Europes top leagues so probably a good one for us to compare prices with.
The equivilant to bay 16........ie the stand behind the goal, lower tier costs 360.00 QUID that is $736.29.Yes they do play 36 league games but it still works out roughly $5.00 a game more than you guys are being asked to pay. They also have to top this up if they want to include cup games.
I think some people don,t realise how cheaply we get to watch professional sport in Australia.

Great idea that I support. The chance to sit next to the same people for the next 30 years as we win championships will be fantastic. So it costs an extra $1 a week - deal with it.
Top work from the A-League (for once)

I think the membership packaging and pricing is spot on!

Fully agree with bay 16 being a flat fee of $195, the Mariners don't want to promote U18's being in the most passionate bay in the ground, but if they want to be a part of it they won't stop it.

Reserving your seat in bay 16 isn't just for V4, it's forever (providing you renew your membership), so if your not thinking about a bay 16 seat now, but you would consider it in a year or 2, don't complain when/if bay 16 is potentially full and you have to move to another bay.  Within a few years I wouldn't be surprised if the whole stadium is reserved just like the finals series.

Arabmariner - you're dead right, prices to watch our beloved game in Australia compared to europe is A LOT cheaper!

In regards to whether people will just wander into the bay without a bay 16 ticket, we'll just have to wait and see.  This is the first year that we have this so it's up to us to make it work and provide the club with feedback.  I know plenty of Platinum and gold members who had problems in the first year with people helping themselves to others seats, but the club learnt from that and it's no longer a problem, there will be teething problems I'm sure but it will work if everyone jumps on board!

I think you will find Jeff only counted the home games - DUFC had 19 home games (in the season) so going on those figures that works out to be $38.75 per game so more than double... unless you get entry to away games too in your membership there?

thats a good point worth hammering home DJ,

"Reserving your seat in bay 16 isn't just for V4, it's forever (providing you renew your membership), so if your not thinking about a bay 16 seat now, but you would consider it in a year or 2, don't complain when/if bay 16 is potentially full and you have to move to another bay"

the Mariners advertising slogan of "Don't regret tomorrow what you could be part of today" is very appt for 'the bay' memberships now.
