Sutton is a waste of space! It just frustrates me that he starts and bernie is left on the bench.

Very proud of the boys. To still be piling the pressure on in added time & 32 degree heat after 3 games in 8 days was excellent.
We were in the match the whole way but again just didn't take our chances.
In Arnie we trust...

No need for panic stations musti and Ollie back next week should add stability, thrash sky blues at BT and show everyone there's no choking here this season

3 points clear is still better than coming from behind.

The team must have at least one good penalty taker. :headbutt:

From memory Wilko took the best in the GF.

Do not let a striker near the ball.

My current facebook status: Behich - filthy, diving, dirty, wimpy thug of a 'player'

I don't think that's an unfair description, do you? :)

Sutton's still playing? ;-)

Haven't had the chance to watch a game for week - How's Bernie going when he's on, is he still a lazy SOB or does he have his hunger back?

Yep. Has taken me a good 5 hours to recover.

Heart played "ok" A point each would have been fair I think. They played a spoiling game, 7 yellows I think it was and could have been more. There goal was lucky and scrappy. Sutton hit the woodwork and missed the pen. Generally, we looked the more likely. But no glaring misses. It was one of those games where every off the shin or mishit shot somehow finds it's way to a MH player. f**k I HATE those games.

Positives.

Held the ball well, showed determination to the final whistle. Kwas continues to look sharp. Bernie looks hungry and dangerous. Rogic is serious quality, but fades as the game wears on. In losing, we were to be fair, over all pretty"solid" But that simply won't be enough to get us the plate or the seat. We have to get brave, bold and ruthless in the front third.

Negatives.

Negativity in the front third. Not so much unwilling to play the ball forward as can happen to us, but the bravery and willingness to run at players and get in behind. Our attack clearly suffers whenever we face teams with really fast wingbacks or wingers, like Behich and Dugandzic. As the ratio of attacking runs by Pedj and Rosey is at a rare low and makes a huge difference. When this isn't happening, as per tonight, Weemac always has quieter games. Hutch nor Rostyn offer this creativity, so tonight the lions share was on Rogic. He did a solid job of it first half then they used Paul Reid to man mark him out of the game in the second.

Subsequently what we saw saw Wilko and Dutchy advancing to try to get something going. Personally I felt we desperately needed Olly for attacking balance today if Pedj and Rosey were going to be pegged down so much. As long as bloody Vidmar has ruined him again by playing him as DM in his total bullshit negative, defensive, rubbish excuse of a football system. Took five games for him to get his mojo back after his last disastrous trip with under Aurelio.

As a result Kwas struggled to get himself into the game, though he really tried. And Sutton completely failed to get himself into the game. To be fair to both of them, it wasn't an easy task. Hearts defenders were rarely stretched or pulled out of position.

So with no clear way forward, what we did was hold possession and move the ball around a lot, not too quickly mind, and sadly not too much effect. Heart to their credit were well organised and very compact.

Final notes. Bernie deserves a start. We need to appoint a penalty taker. AND tehn train him. For now, just give them to bloody Dutchy FFS. I'd bet my bottom dollar he'd score more on average under game pressure than anyone else in our team. Otherwise Hutch, Rostyn or bloody Weemac for mine.

There are no easy points coming up. If we can win the plate from here, we'll have earnt it . If we can't, while we won't deserve it anyway, it will be a painful drawn out Minor premiership version of losing last years GF. Our players need to step right up and back themselves to the hilt or the dream will sadly slide away.

The cries of chokers are already growing deafening. Dig in Mariners. Let's bring it home.

NOTE: Let's all not blame Sutton and gee on his back yet. Guy knows he screwed the pen. And we've had players take much worse pens. He showed very good touch in his first start, and there were no other glaring mistakes today, he just couldn't get in the game. That isn't all his fault. And if some of you think it was about a lack of speed, you need to look deeper. Where was Dugandzic today? Yet fastest player on the field.

Hope that helps Wombat.

Best

In a word. f**k. Wilko should have sorted it out then.

All ths talk of 11 point lead now down to 3 is a downer. BUT if someone had said:

"How do you feel about then idea of being 3 points in front with 4 games to play"

I'd have been ecstatic.

I have a terrible feeling we're going to bottle the league and wind up watching the GF on telly.

I have that feeling too, and the penalty issue is a major ingredient. We all know that when we get a penalty (not common) there is a less than 50% chance of a goal. When the ref points at the spot I feel fear, I know many of you do as well, and so do the players. A penalty is a clear opportunity to land a decisive blow in the match - what does our fear of it say about that? Missed penalties are both the cause and the effect of lacking belief. The belief will come only behind the technique - Sutton's penalty was rubbish, so was Hearfield's. Neither of them owned the experience and were easily out-manoeuvred by the goalie.
We need a player to work intensively on penalty technique, and I think that player is Bernie. When you see him with the goal in front and the ball at his feet you know he's going to be strong. His goal against GCU was pure authority. We need a penalty man who, however much at stake, however good the goalie or hot the weather, would fire an unstoppable rocket into the roof of the net and only bad luck could prevent a goal. The situation now is that only good luck will result in a goal.
We're shortly entering two cup competitions, time to fix this problem.

Mate, I'd rather do that than lose another flapping grand final.

The last few weeks have really worked against us - if we hadn't lost Ryan to Olyroos duties then I don't think we would've conceded so many goals lately, and let's not forget how rough it is for any team playing 3 games in a week.

It was a big ask, and Heart's goal was pure luck.

Of course, that's looking at the defense - doesn't really explain why we've forgotten how to score goals lately.
